In this episode we have a close encounter with a submarine, well it was half a mile away. We learn how to moor alongside and do a night sail into a ferry terminal.
We booked both our courses through 1st Scotsail (link below).

Great footage guys. Good to see an RYA course on the tube. Did you do centre cleat mooring and springing off against the wind/tide? Thanks for sharing. 👍👍 Ant and Cid x

SV Impavidus (Ant & Cid Sailing) Thanks guys 👌🏼 We did, but mainly against the wind, the tide wasn't that strong at Holy Loch. Hope you had a great weekend with the owners club x

Hi Guys, super and thanks for sharing; did DS up there 15-years or more ago so many of the marinas familiar. Just one question, where did you store all those fenders! Cheers.

Ian Coverdale Thanks Ian, it's a beautiful area isn't it. Lots of fenders but the boat does belong to our instructor so I can't fault her. They was stored in the sail locker on the bow and some larger fenders in a cockpit locker. Cheers for watching, hope it brought back some memories.

Thanks i keep my boat on a mooring in gearlochhead subs can be a pain, see you visited sandbank marina the pub up the road is good fun. Supprised they took you back to largs for the night sail. Should of sailed down to arran lamlash then done the night sail to ardrossan.

al math I think the closest we got to you is Holy Loch. We had to go back to Largs before our night sail to sort a few things. What a beautiful area to sail, it's stunning.

Wow. Your instructor likes her fenders.... I put out 3 each side, one on the bow and sometimes a fat bouy on the stern 1/4. dependent on the mooring. Nice video though, only wish I could have persuaded my missus to sail too.

Hi we do the same as you with three and a larger one. I think I would do the same if I was using my boat to teach a load of learners, infact I'd put more fenders out hehe It was good doing the course together. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.

  • @OverlandSea

Hi George 95% of the filming is done with iPhone 7plus in 4k and we bought a Sony AX53 which we didn't use much, the shots with the long zooms are from the Sony. And we edit with Final Cut Pro X

Really enjoyed that again. Are you keeping a personal log ... particularly night hours? It used to count towards your next quali. May have changed but I used to “sign off” people’s logs who then went onto the offshore exams.

That's a great idea! We have the routes tracked in Navionics so could possibly get the info from that. Obviously we wasn't allowed to use Navionics but instructor allowed us to track, so we could look back at it. Thanks

So my memory hasn’t failed me 🤪. Just found this www.rya.org.uk/courses-training/exams/Pages/yachtmaster-offshore.aspx and you can see the pre-requisites which I guess is why I was signing off logs. Check with the school that taught you what proof they would need if you were going for offshore.
