This lesson is part two of how to use the P-47 in a ground attack role. This video covers how to use its rockets and .50 cals for ground strafing.
Here is the mission I created for this video so you can download it and fly it for yourself to practice: www.dropbox.com/s/7f0ykc8xta9...

    Awesome video, I find this helpful for other planes I use in ground attack missions, such as the IL2. Thanks again for the professional videos! Can't wait to see what comes next as we get new aircraft in the game!

    You are my bible! I wish I could shoot ad well. One thing I note is that your jinking does not really change your heading much at all. Since 99,5% of AA rounds miss anyway, it's just a matter of shooting as many rounds as possible at the enemy plane. If you don't change the heading enough, eventually you will get hit.

    Good video. Although the K14 is nice I wouldn’t recommend it for ground attack. The standard gunsight has a pipper for the rockets. Really comes in handy when firing them.

    Yeah it's personal preference. I like the K-14 so you can have the gyro sight as the backup for air-air. I want to make a video covering the other sight for rocket use (I think it's the L-3 or something like that).

    That's true, you definitely don't need to go as low I was going in the video. Staying above treetop level is much safer. I just wanted to make sure I didn't get snagged by AA which would kill the whole attack sequence used to make these two videos LOL

    Were both the machine guns and the rockets, on a P-47, positioned on its wings in such a way that if they were all fired at once in separate straffing or rocket attacks, their rounds would all be closely grouped together when they struck the target that was in the pilot's canopy gunsight?

  • @armin4823

    Very informative as always! Do you happen to know what the markers on the normal, non gyro, gunsight are for? When you pick the rockets it gets extra lines.

    That's the L-3 gunsight. It was used in P47s, P38s, and P61s for the most part. I believe its 100 mil wide but I haven't found any actual technical info that would let me do a proper tutorial for it yet. I'm still looking for some regarding it so when I find what I need I'll make a video.

    Great video. Two notes; in the locomotive pass it appears your aircraft would be hit by dangerous debris and shrapnel, maybe too low? Also, why specify the K-14 gunsight if you only use fixed reticule mode?

  • @RequiemsACTL

    @RequiemsACTL

    5 жыл бұрын

    It's possible but I didn't suffer any damage from the pass so I figured it was fine as you can definitely frag yourself in the sim. I think the lighting that occurs inside the cockpit makes it look worse than it is. I specify to use the K-14 gunsight because it gives you the option of using the gyro. If you were engaged on the way out to target what would you need to do? Drop all that ordnance and be in a dogfight instead where having that gyro is very useful.

    @@RequiemsACTL Yeah, the one nice thing that comes along with rockets on the P-47 is a modified gunsight designed for rocket attacks. So, I guess it's a trade-off between having a sight optimized for ground attack and one that is especially meant for air-to-air fighting.

  • @RequiemsACTL

    @RequiemsACTL

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@lwallace79 Yeah true. It would be nice to have a specific sight for the rockets for sure. Also from what I've read it appears the fixed sight is 4° wide (70mils) and is meant for ground targets or as backup if gyro fails of course. I know you like these extra details :-) www.revolvy.com/page/Gyro-gunsight The 4° figure comes from a description of the fixed sight for the GGS MkII D...which is basically the same as the K-14.
