To me, Randy Rhodes was the greatest guitarist ever. I know that's subjective, but I could only imagined where his music would have gone if he lived. His influence lives on though. RIP Randy!!!! Probably my favorite Ozzy song.

There where groups of us all over the school field with our boom boxes krankin this album and diary of a madman dare I say ( Flying Hi Again). My sweet sweet dear K.S.O., The song Mr. Crowley (the "O" is long as in code) is about Aleister Crowley, an English occultist and ceremonial magician who founded the religious movement called Thelema. He wrote books dealing in the occult and also poetry. He considered himself as a prophet to guide his follower to the Aeon of Horus. He was criticized for his beliefs and kicked out of Italy. He also dabbled in drugs and bisexuality. There are biographies written about him and that is how Ozzy was inspired to write the lyrics after reading one of the biographies and seeing a deck tarot cards on a table in the recording studio when he started recording song for Ozzy's first solo album, "Blizzard of Ozz." This was the second single from the album. The first being Crazy Train. Randy Rhodes is the guitarist and was classically trained. He was still in his late teens when he was part of Ozzy's backup band. As you witnessed, he was a phenomenal musician. I believe the lyric, "get on your white horse" is about Aleister Crowley saw himself. I hope this clears things up a bit for you. Ozzy was raised Episcopalian, so he believed in God, though he was heavily into drugs at the time. His wife Sharon helped him get clean and also became a born again Christian. Ozzy is still recording after over 50 years being in the business. He hasn't softened either. Well, God Bless and have a wonderful evening.

Last night, I heard Ozzy and his friend talking about this song as Blizzard of Ozz celebrates its 40 years Anniversary on his channel on Sirius/XM, "Ozzy's Boneyard. It is about hour of them talking about this song and others from this iconic album in which it is his 1st solo since leaving Black Sabbath. Today, he still mourns and missed his friend, Randy Rhoads. Randy was in the plane with the pilot in Florida in the city of Leesburg. Others including Ozzy were in their tour bus near the local airport. Plane was flying around in the area. Bus was in the area for repairing air conditioner. They decided to buzzed the bus wake up the drummer. Third and final buzz, plane clipped the top of the bus causing plane to crash. All three including Randy, pilot and makeup artist, Rachel Youngblood were killed instantly. Randy was studying classical guitar as you can it in his solos.

I knew that Jimmy Page was obsessed with Crowley to the point that he bought Crowley's former home, Boleskine House by Loch Ness in Scotland, in 1971, but i also found out these fun facts about Crowley's legacy and influence in Wikipedia : He was included as one of the figures on the cover art of The Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. His motto of "Do What Thou Wilt" was inscribed on the vinyl of Led Zeppelin's album Led Zeppelin III (1970). David Bowie makes a reference to Crowley in the lyrics of his song "Quicksand" (1971). It has been suggested that the lyrics of Bowie's Let's Dance (1983) may substantially paraphrase Crowley's 1923 poem "Lyric of Love to Leah", Go figure

You just witnessed one of the greatest guitarists in history. Randy Rhoads was probably the most technically proficient player ever. His speed and accuracy are unmatched to this day. People like argue who was better: Randy Rhoads or Eddie Van Halen. Well, thats like arguing about is a Mercedes Benz better than a Ferrari. Both are excellent and both have very different style from each other. Fun Fact: Randy's polka dot Flying V guitar in this video is the only one in existence. Guitar companies frequently make copies of famous guitarist guitars, called a Signature edition. There are signature edition guitars from Jimi Hendrix to Dimebag Darrell. NO ONE has ever made a copy of Randy's polka dot V. It was custom made for him and out of respect no company will ever copy it. There are many many V shaped guitars out there but the polka dot V with creme colored pickups, pearl Bow-Tie inlays, and a Floyd Rose bridge will never be made.

The line, "Won't you ride my white horse," is a drug reference. Crowley was a known user of opium. Aleister Crowley would sometimes sign books and autographs, "Polemically Yours, Aleister Crowley," which inspired Bob Daisley to wrote the line "was it polemically sent?" which appears near the end of the song. "Polemically" means generating controversy. Crowley was a powerful occultists, a all around naughty man

Rhoads. It's Rhoads, people. K.S.O., here's the wikipedia on Aleister Crowley: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleister_Crowley I've heard it said that Ozzy heard about Jimmy Page buying one of Crowley's houses. The whole "devil worship/black magic" trope was fashionable if you wanted to raise eyebrows. So Ozzy jumped on the Crowley thing with this song. Randy Rhoads is the guitar player, a one of a kind legend, who was killed in a plane crash not long after the filming of this video.

still upsetting to this day what happened to Randy. What a completely bizarre catastrophe. One of the greats already when he died at age 25. Awful. Thank you for the reaction, and a great video to have watched. Your interpretation was very astute considering you don't know about the subject. Aliester Crowley is perhaps one of the most scandalous and blasphemous figures in modern history. The reference to 'white horse' is about heroine. He was an opium addict, among other things. A renowned spriritulist, philosopher, mountaineer, provocateur. He spent his wedding night in the great pyramid of Giza. Called himself 'the Great Liar', 'Mega Therion', etc. He really messed with English society, but was also interested in taking the Masonic teachings and simplifying them so that the more common person could understand them. A truly strange and mystifying individual. His book 'The Book of Lies' and others are very challenging and confounding. You could study him for years. I have off and on for 30 years and he is still enigmatic. Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden wrote and produced a movie about him called "Chemical Wedding', Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin was interested in him, and many others. Ozzy was far from alone in that.

I think your pretty close in your analysis. Crowley, which you pronounced right, was a practioner of dark magic and arts. Horse, in this instance was a drug reference, namely heroin, which Crowley used. This and Crazy Train were Ozzy's first big hits after he left Sabbath. If you haven't checked out Sabbath, it's definitely worth a listen. A majority of metal and rock bands over the past 50 years basically cite them as inspiration.

I read an article that Mr Crowley was one of Ozzy's school teachers. He was a mean teacher, so he wrote a song about an evil man and just picked Mr Crowley to call him. Lol Ozzy mentality is off the rails! 💕🎼✌️🎸

Those pauses are so rude. Not necessary to pause so many times but if you have to just do it yourself. If you pause once it's enough that youtube are unlikely to pull the video. They have their own totally unpredictable criteria anyway. Unsubscribed/

This song is about Alistair Crowley. Great composition, terrible subject.
