Oxford MBA Debate: Social Responsibility in Business

The debate is one of the main attractions of the MBA Launch: three weeks of lectures, interactive sessions on careers and personal development, team-building and social events that introduce the incoming MBA students to Oxford, to each other, and to the major ideas that they will explore during the year-long course. With a provocative motion, speakers drawn from the Oxford Saïd faculty and the MBA class of 2015, and plenty of contributions from the floor, the event was lively and challenging.

I registered for the 1+1 MBA in 2022 and I so look forward to debating and following the 1+1 MBA program on campus at Balliol College which I have closely followed for awhile now, thank you.

Very, very good! The speakers love to say, "denied!" It is so entertaining. It's like when the the teacher sceams at the class & says, "Class! Shut Up!" , from an older SNL. The arguments were brilliant! Thank you guys & gals for posting. Really, really great!

I subscribe to every newsletter on business to gain some insight on business analytics and I would have been grateful to attend the seminar which was patronized by Al Gore the former United States VP so I am apologetic that I had to miss this insightful seminar, thank you, Mpho ; Kesitwe :Tshoagong

Indeed, it takes really good education to believe in this nonsense, that only incentive should be a profit. We live in a system which promotes and incentivizes profit maximization, hence, institutions are doing precisely what they were designed to do. The real question this "well educated" people should be debating is whether it is morally good and sustainable for the well being of the human race to live under such economic system.

I don't know, ... I just didn't like this debate.... It was such an interesting topic but the points were mehhhh. Specialy the first woman, she said the same sentence more than five times I suppose.... It was painful to hear the same thing being said over and over and over again without any hard and convincing follow ups.

A skew distribution of income resulting in the polarisation of views. The rich will want to maximise profits whilst the poor feel the need to be protected. Governments supports big business and therefore the for profit argument will influence governments decisions makers. Everyone should be responsible it’s the respectful thing to do

The Bible says " Love for money is the root of all evil" . Businesses are behind all wars, famine, children's death in the world. The colony system was exchanged for the debt system. Before giving independence Britain made sure the countries were in big debt created artificially to control the countries. After WWI there was a meeting about war reparations. Representing the US was the banker Paul Warburg, representing Germany was Carl Warburg, his brother. Representing the neutral Switzerland was Max Warburg, cousin of Paul and Carl. People died, countries were destroyed and the Warburg family of bankers made a lot of money. Most evil I've seen are done by graduates from famous universities. In one door at Oxford they are debating social responsibility, the next door they are learning how to rip people off, how to lie, how to cheat, how to backstab and how to do everything for money.

In my opinion business entails a great deal of responsibility and accountability such that with particular reference to the war in Ukraine a business corporations such as Shell owes a substantial amount to the Republic of Ukraine on the account of its own business deals that resulted on such loss of capital and it would be interesting to engage on this and other discussions on campus on the prestigious 1+1 MBA program , thank you
