Oxford Mathematician DESTROYS Atheism (15 Minute Brilliancy!)

John Lennox delivers a powerful presentation on the existence of God and the absurdity of Atheism. Best of all, he brings the topic right down to the place where the shadow of the cross falls on an empty tomb. To the mystery of mysteries & the Hope of Glory!

Godhead The first article of faith of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints states, “We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.” These three beings make up the Godhead. They preside over this world and all other creations of our Father in Heaven. Latter-day Saints view the members of the Godhead in a manner that corresponds in a number of ways with the views of others in the Christian world, but with significant differences. Latter-day Saints pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ. They acknowledge the Father as the ultimate object of their worship, the Son as Lord and Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit as the messenger and revealer of the Father and the Son. But where Latter-day Saints differ from other Christian religions is in their belief that God and Jesus Christ are glorified, physical beings and that each member of the Godhead is a separate being. The true doctrine of the Godhead was lost in the apostasy that followed the Savior’s mortal ministry and the deaths of His Apostles. This doctrine began to be restored when 14-year-old Joseph Smith received his First Vision (see Joseph Smith-History 1:17). From the Prophet’s account of the First Vision and from his other teachings, we know that the members of the Godhead are three separate beings. The Father and the Son have tangible bodies of flesh and bones, and the Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit (see Doctrine and Covenants 130:22). Although the members of the Godhead are distinct beings with distinct roles, they are one in purpose and doctrine. They are perfectly united in bringing to pass Heavenly Father’s divine plan of salvation.

My grandfather was a physicist who didn’t believe in God. He seemingly had a rational scientific explanation for everything. As he got older he shared with me that the more he tried to disprove the existence of God the more evident it became to him that God exists. In his final days he took solace in the fact that through his younger years of trying to disprove or explain away the devine God he actually proved his existence. Once he retired sometimes I would see him sitting for hours upon hours reading and studying the Bible when I would go visit him and my grandmother. He wanted to learn all he could about his creator. He would try to read anything he could get his hands on pertaining to Jesus Christ. His prayers were very important to him. He was always a kind and funny person, but I noticed over the years after he found God he had this spark of life in him and he appreciated the nuances of life more. The man went to his grave baptized and a firm believer in God and his only begotten son. His life's journey had taken him home back to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All praise be to God the Almighty, through him all things are possible.

I suppose the contentiousness is derived from people living side by sude evrry day fundementally disagreeing on how the universe came into being. Further disagreements include those of what laws should apply. I, quite honestly, aleays fail to take true believers seriously as the notion that God should have come into being spontaniously is no more likely than that the universe did. Furthermore that His principles have not stood the test of time (gender roles for example) must surely disproves his omnipitence, as he must surely have been aware those millenia ago that the world wood change. But the bible does not account for this. Equally, you might argue this to be a point of contwntion with the church not God, to which i would reply that, if everyone is worshiping god wrong for fault of the church's misinterperetation, then even devoted christians must be doomed for hell. Idk tho.

See my earlier comment - I was not aware of this quote but it is spot on. My question therefore is ‘why do so many believers, the speaker in this video included, feel the need to convince non-believers that their deity exists?’ The first part of Aquinas’ statement would imply that believers who do that measure the validity of their religion by the standards of non-believers. The fact that non-believers do not believe in a deity simply should not matter to believers. Period. And if you think the second part of the statement is true, recurrent attempts by believers to convince non-believers to abandon their world view is even more confounding…

I was an atheist before I hit a car with a motorcycle on September 11, 2002. There was no logical reason I am currently alive today. They called me a miracle. I went into a six week coma as one person and awoke as someone totally different. In the last 22 years I have experienced God in so many different ways. To keep this short, I will tell of the most significant experience. I had been on a long drive, and about 20 miles from home, I had a deep feeling someone else was in the truck I was driving. The feeling cannot be described using the American language as it was far too intense to do so. It was so pure and yet so raw, a love which permeated every cell of my body. I cried as one would expect, and I never wanted this drive to end. If I could bottle this feeling and just give you a small sample, there would be no such thing as an atheist. I am now a speaker on this subject and would love to share my story. If ever you wonder what heaven will feel like, I know. Give God a chance.

All I can add is that the Word states that if you are ashamed to confess the Lord in public then He will not be in a position to confess your name in front of God, (my words). Prof Lennox is blessed to be in a position to reveal these scientific "things" that every thing is created by our Creator God, to unbelievers.

My late father was an atheist and astronomer. He studied the Bible to prove it was a bunch of crap. At the same time, he also conducted astronomical observations at Palomar, California. There was then, in the 1960s, the largest optical telescope in the world. The effect was that he came to the conclusion that not only does the Bible make sense, not only that the universe could not have come into existence by itself, but also that there is no contradiction between religion and science, both fields complement each other.

@@Panagiotis_Vlachosthe study of the Bible is called theology, and it is a science. People asked questions about the Bible and its accuracy, so it was studied to get answers. Answers found to be facts can be questioned, but that doesn’t change if they’re true or not. The Bible is a historical document that covers real events that actually happened, and it is studied as such by many Bible scholars who read the oldest found versions of the Bible in Hebrew and Greek to understand the original meaning. The Bible can be studied as a science, and it is, because people take the faith seriously. The whole “answers that can’t be questioned” thing is invalid in my opinion. If I ask the color of the sky and you say blue, I can question if it’s actually blue all day long but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s blue. Science gives us answers that can’t be questioned, like how it’s just objectively true that the circumference of a circle is 2pir. I can question that all day long but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s real. With God, what He says is true because He says it. He created the world with His words, if He said the sky is purple, it would be purple. His word can be questioned, but nothing comes of it. What He says is just what reality becomes, His promises are woven into creation. They can be questioned, as you are clearly questioning them, but you don’t gain anything. You act as though questions that can’t be answered are better, but it isn’t just black and white. That’s like saying, if you saw someone get resurrected instantly before your eyes, that “well just cause I can’t explain what happened doesn’t mean God is real. Id rather have questions that can’t be answered than answers that can’t be questioned!” Would you watch the laws of physics be broken right in front of you and still say there’s nothing supernatural and no creator? Normally you hear “well if God showed himself to me I would believe him” but you admit that you don’t know how the universe created itself from nothing, then you’ve seen his miracle with your own eyes. What’s more unbelievable, the whole world being created on its own with perfect conditions for life and conscious beings, or one man rising from the dead? The creation of the universe breaks the laws of conservation of energy and the of conservation of mass, so I’d say the universe being created is more unbelievable, but I’m sure if you saw a dead man walk you would believe in God. You see the result of a much bigger miracle every day. You are living in a bigger miracle than the one you’re looking for.

This drink represents prayer, the spiritual water that lead us to eternal life. Holy Spirit is the master of prayer and He is often symbolized as a water. He invites you to pray! Don’t believe the lie that we are capable to struggle with our sinful nature and prevail. We need Christ because by his righteousness we are granted access to God’s presence once more but also it is his victory on the cross that destroys the sinful nature in our life. Our faith in Christ doesn’t mean we wont struggle with sin as we still live in a world corrupted by sin, but because of our new nature in Christ we can be empowered by the presence of God (Holy Spirit) to overcome, we must find peace in him. We remain on this earth after coming to know the truth by the very same mercy of God. It is by his mercy that he withholds judgement of the world to give all an opportunity to come to Him. He is unwilling that any would be lost. As Paul says it is our honor to suffer for the glory of God that in following the command of Christ we as the body can do our part in bringing the lost to know hope in him. I say these things with love! I struggled many years with what you are describing. There is hope, don’t stop pursuing God’s presence and truth, he will be made known to you in the depth of your being. Once that occurs nothing can rock you or remove you from his presence, only by his will and strength not your own.

At the current rate of erosion the continents would have eroded flat in 14 million years! how come we have Rocks 300 times older than that still above sea level ? Atoms and molecules are 99.99% empty space with electrons circling the nucleus constantly. Thus Making solid objects impossible without God setting the laws of physics. Electromagnetic fields, or the four forces would interfere with each other! without God, you have no stabilizing force. The strongest destructive force controlled by man is tearing apart one of God’s smallest building blocks. Forcefully changing unstable atoms can destroy a city, forcefully changing more unstable atoms will destroy a small country. Concerning atoms and the things that are made, Jesus holds them all together so they don’t explode apart! Colossians 1: 16 For by Jesus were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him! There are no transitional fossils between monkey and man, so evolutionists have changed their theory on that! Lying Evolutionary atheists fabricated, Nebraska man, Piltdown man, and Lucy, and they were found out to be fake skeletons! First law of thermodynamics and DNA need a creator. They both do not auto encrypt, nor were they capable of making themselves according to their own definitions. nothing + nothing = nothing nothing + god = everything This equation makes no sense. this insinuates god will create and also specifically create us. isn't he god? he can do what he wants. nothing + god = god. where did the everything come from? is god everything? i thought he was a separate thing? is god a part of everything or another being/thing/idea not the same. You dum dums are overcomplicated a simple solution to this oh so not complicated problem. Believe what you want, neither can actually be proven, get over yourself your religion is equally as likely to not be true and possibly even cease to exist like the plethora of other religions. and statistically speaking for the entirety of Christianity to be correct is basically 0. but sure you dum dums keep arguing over one of the many paradox of life. cause thats the whole point. it cant be answered yet you tards cant just accept one idea makes you feel safe at night. grow up nerds. your god (or lack thereof) does/doesn't exist. if you understand math and physics cause physics is actually what describes the world not math, math is the medium we used to measure it. anyway quantum mechanics state an observer changes the state an atom behaves, therefore according to quatum science its actually both do and do not exist simultaneously at the same time. so shut the **** up already and believe what you want it changes nothing.

Anyways, the essence is that life is up to you to get out of it what you want. You have free will to live it how you see fit. Some ways are better than others, seek the truth honestly and you'll find it, be open to the good in all things, and live it to the best of your ability, willing to believe and trust in a goodness far more profound than you can muster yourself. Don't get caught up in a book that's claimed to be from the hand of God when it's clearly written by imperfect humans, but don't disregard either, as it's a catalog of mistakes and successes in seeking out the true nature and purpose of existence.

Because those are people who are always praying, who are always remembering God, you know, who are always giving charity, who dress modestly, who don't go to bars and clubs and sleep around. You don't like them because they are people with conservative values who take morality seriously, who love God. That'll make you look bad. So you have to redefine all of that as oppression to make your opposition to morality look like a moral stance. You have to pretend that we are against freedom because we exercise freedom responsibly and in a principled manner. Because freedom to you actually just means irresponsibility and decadence. And again, this is why “kuffar”-because it's lying, changing words for other words, mischaracterizing things to obscure reality. But you wouldn't do that if you thought you were right. You wouldn't have to be dishonest if you thought you were right. You wouldn't have to use deceitful language to make immoral things sound moral, if you didn't know, on some level, that you're wrong. Shaytan taught you this because that's how he pitches it to you. He makes the evil seem good because human beings want to be good, and they don't want to be evil in their heart of hearts. So, he (Shaytan) redefines immorality as morality, and then you run with it. But you know you're wrong, and that's really why Muslims make you so uncomfortable. And why you have to talk about the Taliban and all that to convince yourself that Shaytan's propaganda is true. So you can rationalize your disobedience to God as a good thing, rationalize the moral decay of your societies as a virtuous thing. It's a breathtaking level of dishonesty, and it's going to let you down. It is letting you down, and it is by far the most oppressive way to live your life. Because ultimately, immorality, irresponsibility, and selfishness are truly tyrannical and damaging. And the moral discipline that Muslims live by, the Sharia, is liberating and empowering. So you have to call what we follow oppressive, just to keep yourself from facing the oppression that you are actually under. [end]

I have had a hard time explaining to them why l choose ro be a Christian & why l refused to go out lunch or even donner with them. Sad 6 of them later on l found out, died of Covid. One had Aids, he hid it from me. But l found out from face book he too died of covid. None believe in God. To them church is a place to drain their salary due to 3 types of offerings . One of which is a MUST. 10%. Their argument is God is not poor. The other two told me, Christians should meet in homes & break bread. No building funds. 10% is no issue. It's that kind of conversation professional should be made to under stand.

When you call yourself an Indian or a Muslim or a Christian or a European, or anything else, you are being violent. Do you see why it is violent? Because you are separating yourself from the rest of mankind. When you separate yourself by belief, by nationality, by tradition, it breeds violence. So a man who is seeking to understand violence does not belong to any country, to any religion, to any political party or partial system; he is concerned with the total understanding of mankind. - J. @@tonyisnotdead No, instead, she chooses to watch a video that presents counter arguments itself but that has reasonable arguments regarding God's existence, considering that nowadays people, especially young people, take science as a religion and think that it explains everything that exists. Also, the thing about being a Christian is that we get to experience God, not only discuss Him as an academic topic, so it's comprehensible that she'll want to watch videos of fellow Christians that probably have been through the same doubts that she's going through.

@@nayarahonorato3190 that's fine and all, but she admitted to watching this only because she was losing her faith and needed reinforcement. she's not considering other viewpoints to find the truth, she automatically thinks of any dissenting, naturalistic alternatives to god as unscientific and false and does not critically approach any of the arguments presented in the video like she very cynically does for natural arguments. the arguments in the video, from what i remember, aren't good at all. they are sophistically presented in a way which can only be convincing to a religious person. there's literally not a single thing he says which wasn't just... assumptions or his opinions. this is why a lot of arguments for god include unfalsifiable assumptions about things science hasn't explained yet or things all humans take for granted

@@tonyisnotdead I'm sorry, how do you know she doesn't think about the arguments in a critical way? Also, don't you - I'm assuming you're an atheist - seek videos that are of your interest to supoort your views? I bet you do. Do some research and find the atheist channels and read the comments. The vast majority of them will be of people who are also atheists, agreeing with the content. The key point and the difference with John Lennox's lecture is that the possibility of God's existence in the scientific field is not very discussed, because in the academic realm, people that are believers are usually automatically considered to have their thoughts invalidated. So yes, it is important for a Christian to see the other side of the coin, which is: SCIENTISTS do believe and talk about God and yes, His existence is not invalidated by arguments simply regarding what is in front of our eyes or not. Also, the entire discussion regarding God's existence will become invalid if you take Popper's approach to Scientific discussion. It is unfalsifiable to say that there's no life that can emerge from nothing, but it is also unfalsifiable to say that YES, at some point the universe emerged out of nowhere. It is rather a philosophical discussion. Can you falsify the claim that "there's no God"? I suggest you to try to bring another view to the claims that Lennox stated in this video and see where you can get. It is a good exercise to take notes and think about it! Do you think this mathematician would be up there giving his lecture at Oxford if his ideas weren't worth listening to?
