OWNING A MINIATURE POODLE

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

I get so many questions asking how is it owning and caring for a Miniature Poodle. Whether they are as smart as everyones says, and whether they are super fast to potty train. In this KZread video I go through my personal experiences on owning a Poodle and whether it's everything I thought it would be.

Same thing happened to me when I was looking for a dog 19 years ago as I didn't see myself as a "poodle person". I am aware Jasper is and will always be the absolute love of my life, much more than any human. My life was and still is crushed the day he died almost 2 years ago.

I have a miniature poodle named Zoey and they are absolutely the best! Zoey gets fully groomed every 6 weeks for $48. I live in Phoenix. Poodles are very smart dogs. She does not play with toys but instead plays a lot of head games with me and with the day care owner. She's developed a skip to her walk and her hind legs will often skip when she's happy while on our walks. This is just the most adorable thing you've ever seen. She likes all people and likes about 40 - 50% of other dogs. She'll growl at some dogs but never at people. I think Zoey thinks she's a people too!

She may like a flirt pole and puzzle toys. Also, dogs (especially intelligent/obedient ones) love learning new tricks and hobbies. They see it as a bonding experience and learn more from their owners. Some dog sports are agility, nose work and obedience, and is easy to diy.

Scarlet is adorable and sure to help increase subscriptions when you feature her. I owned a couple of miniature poodles and agree they are very smart...but I think its more than that. Some breeds like Afghan hounds are rated low in intelligence...but I don't think it is a matter of intelligence, its more that most of them do not care very much what the owner wants them to do. Poodles, like you said, are very people and owner focused...so you have both smarts and a real effort to understand what you want them to do and to do it. Please post a follow up with a groomer video. The before/after is almost like getting a whole new dog. Plus, you can experiment with a whole lot of different looks with poodles. Some you may not like but they grow out real fast so you can start again. Another thing... miniature poodles can live a very long time compared to other breeds. Both of mine lived more than 17 years. Good Video!

I didn’t plan on being a poodle owner either after my Border Collie of 18 years AND my tabby cat also 18 passed just six weeks of each other. I was totally crushed! I came across the ad for my poodle almost accidentally- but there’s always a reason why, right? My Lennie has so many toys too! I use one of those soft pocket things that you put blankets in- and that works great! Lennie certainly has his favourites! Many blessings with your lovely girl- see you on your posts!

We own a mini poodle (now 4) and I agree with most of what you say about them, but you missed one key point, they need a LOT of attention, we have to take ours everywhere with us so she need so much stimulation. She will be chasing us for play almost all day and is very persuasive. She is ok being left alone for a few hours, but we do not like to go much longer. The upside of this attention is she has perfect manners in pubs, cafe's, shops, PTA meetings etc. She even walk around town off the lead, crosses road looking before crossing, it's amazing to watch. We built up to this over 3 years, so don't try this as obviously very dangerous.

you said u dont like dogs to learn alot of tricks because theyre dogs... well yeah they are dogs, they get mental stimulation from learning tricks when taught properly ofc. u should watch dog agility events. dogs have been bred to want to listen to us and most will literally LIVE for any kind of "game". some dogs just have a higher mental energy.

Royal Canin dog food is very popular, but also not very good. There are better dog foods than that. I don't know where you live, but I can recommend you some names of world famous foods with lots of meat and other valuable ingredients like : Acana, Orijien, Taste of the wild, Purizon, Caniwild. You need to look for high meat ( best 40-60 % without meat by-products in it )and vegetables. This will help your pup live long and healthy life.

Poodles are #1 in intelligence. German Shepherds are #2. Border Collies are #3 in intelligence. From my experience with them. Border Collies like to obey and perform and do a good job herding sheep but you don't see them in Army war training like Malinois or K9 units, do you? I think the conventional classification is incorrect. Poodles are absolutely the smartest dogs in the world, and sensitive too. But they are athletes and working dogs, hunting retrievers, loyal to a fault, but not clingy chi chi dogs. So many people get the wrongs dogs for themselves. You have to research, analyze, check out dogs before you find a match. Its like a marriage. You want dog's habits and your habits to be in sync for a harmonious relationship for 20 yrs. Give her raw beef bones and raw turkey necks to chew on. Better for her and saves the toys.

Sorry dude, I had to get rid of mine. Second smartest dog is in debate with me. Who made that up. ? I found the one I had was needy , destructive when left alone. And the grooming is too expensive. They look like chia pets to me. With a dumb look on their face. They attach to anyone that moves. So he will not miss me. I gave him to a nice family with children. I am glad to be rid of this dog. If you want a dog that will chew on furniture not listen to commands. And not give you any privacy. Go for this breed.
