Sadly they are waiting for the value of their possessions to rise in price which it might do if the items in question were in mint condition. Unfortunately they do not keep any of their possessions in mint or excellent condition which means it has no resale value. I’m glad that the Salvation Army is coming in first to look at everything. They will be able to determine what items can still be used by someone else and what items (unfortunately) is just garbage for the landfill. I remember as a child when my grandparents died my siblings and I helped our parents and relatives clean out their house. They had some beautiful furniture in excellent condition which oldest sister took for her first apartment. Other members of the family were able to take what they needed and fortunately there was no fighting over anything. Everything else was donated to a local charity which assured my parents that because of the excellent condition of the items that they would sell in no time.

My granny has started hoarding. She loves the feeling of opening a new Amazon box, Temu box, wish box etc because it’s the only thing that makes her happy to leave her bed. I tell her that I’m taking it out to the garage, wait a few weeks then remove it. I label boxes with colors so I know which items just came in, which items are on the waiting periods and which items are ready to be sneaked out to the trash bin. Sometimes she asks for the items but I quickly change the subject. One day she may catch on but everyday that she doesn’t is a blessing to my mom, herself and their home.

@krazycatz
Ай бұрын
The size of a home does not make it beautiful. What makes a home beautiful is keeping it clean and in good condition. When I was a child growing up there was an abandoned house about a block away that had not been lived in for over ten years or longer. Strangers passing this house would never realize at first glance that it was empty. That was because all of the neighbors worked together doing yard work, making repairs and cleaning the outside of the house and even painting the outside of the house as needed. They did it so that the house in question would not become an eyesore for the neighborhood and bring down the value of their houses. A family finally moved into the house in question when I was in high school.

The fact that the mayor finally finally called an organization that can help stuns me that they didn't do it before. Most, if not all of these people, are incurable narcissists/sociopaths. Bitter pill to swallow. Truth hurts. They're incurable. It is not the responsibility of the neighbors to cut her lawn or shovel her snow. Most of us have busy lives and can barely keep our own yards looking presentable! Helping her once in a blue moon I can see, but to continually take care of her yard is nonsense. This is the main reason why I rent my home. I have packed up and relocated many, MANY times when my lease expired after seeing filthy people move into the neighborhood. I enjoy living in peace, love & HARMONY away from mentally unstable people. 😎

I wonder if the inside of her home is similar.

Her selling this is a lie, it’s part of the sickness. If this is what the yard looks like, just imagine what it looks like inside.
So the one man seems truly and utterly shocked elected officials couldn't get anything done. So glad the help is on the way. Please, stop expecting politicians to be the solution....
She's got the biggest house on the block, too! Lol. The neighbor's homes all look so nice. She's lucky to have such a big, beautiful home these days. Lol.

Wow. That rarely happens. I'm glad she's accepting help. I hope she can get the proper help she needs.

Oh yeah, for sure. She'll most likely start piling up again unfortunately.
Just seen in another report that the clean up has been done. I hope it stays that way and that the help was really all that was needed.
Someone has already commented that the homeowner/ woman did not put that stuff there. Others have found a way of dropping off junk in her yard perhaps with her permission because she doesn't know any better. The fact that the mayor finally finally called an organization that can help stuns me that they didn't do it before. Everyone had good intentions but they didn't get anything done now some help for the woman, I'm not as concerned about the neighbors. Maybe some of the neighbors can mow her lawn and shovel snow for her, don't hold your breath.

They all live under that delusion: "I'll sell it or use it one day". When are you ever gonna use a 10 gallon container that the racoons have done chewed through?
Yeah I hope someone’s gonna help her with the inside of the house you can only imagine looking at the outside

I'm 68 and disabled and I can understand how someone can let this get out of control. I'm blessed I don't have this sickness, but if you're physically limited with health problems it's difficult to take care of the house.

She needs therapy to deal with whatever trauma caused her to hoard.
Good job people!!
"junk of all shapes and sizes, spilling out of ..'s home, and into the driveway and yard, for the past year and a half" - so even though she's lived there for 30+ years, this has all happened in the "past year and a half"? I find it hard to believe she had the ability to haul a household appliance out of her house and put it in her front yard. But what do I know? That corner's not a dump - should the street install a camera? Whatever she put out, there's a lot of "junk of all shapes and sizes" that looks like dumped garbage.
Praying that she accepts the help

I lived next door to a worse mess than she has for 8 years, I called the mayor, ministry of environment, natural resources, building inspector, everyone, then the dumpsters came after threatening the city with a lawsuit for not being able to enjoy my own property. They got it cleaned up, I sold my house and got out of there before it turned into a scrap yard again.

Have you seen hoarders?? How they get mad, when they ask them to start throwing stuff away. Hoarders should show up. I would love to see this play out.
Maybe her neighbors should invite her over for dinner and holidays. If she refuses send a plate of cookies over for her to enjoy. Have your kids drop by and see if she needs anything. Get involved with her instead of picking with her issues.

The problem with that is that they risk bringing in bed bugs and stuff into their home, which they don’t want either. Maybe just invite her over for a picnic.
Thanks to the house owner
APS should be authorized too unannounced random visits to make sure hoarders are keeping their situation under compliance with community guidelines.
shes been there 30 years? the House still looks good the trees yard and surroundings look good. I let my yard go for 2 weeks and it looks like crap.

Got bless America 🇺🇸 Let’s hope Katy K allowed those kind ppl to clear the junk for free. And yes hoarding is a mental health issue. Damn. In Canada there is a MASSIVE housing shortage and forced homeless while working problem. To see such a gorgeous house in such a nice neighborhood to be trashed is very very very sad, for MAJORITY of CANADIAN’S. Plus the house has a BLUE ROOF!! (🔥 Hawaii 🔥)
Thank you for the story and the follow up! Thank God she is getting help. She probably started with good intensions, but got too far gone. She could have the early stages of dementia. It blows my mind that the health department wasn't called, and or couldn't do anything. Even if she were going to resell all of that, she would have to have some kind of permit. That:s why there are HOAs and town ordinances. People cannot get that out of hand with their yard trash. Like the guy in VA with the trash bags that caused rats. OMG. So glad that something is being done. They need to get her help if the inside is like that too. It isn't healthy for anyone. 🍀🌈🧚💜🦋🌷🌅

Like the guy in California. Sorry about the typo.
The reporter reported that the homeowner sells the junk, however the HO when asked is she sells it, she replied, " I hope". Also if there are rats in the junk & appearing in the neighborhood, the Health Dept should have been able to force the issue.

Guarantee you she'll give everyone a hard time when it comes time to discard things. That's what they do.

Good luck! She's being agreeable now because of all the media attention. But like all hoarders she obviously has a mental health issue. As soon as she starts to see what's she perceives as her "valuable possessions" starting to disappear she will change her tune really quick. The kind of help she really needs is from a psychologist.
If she donates it she can get a tax write off maybe

What is startling to me is that I didn't hear anyone that was interviewed say that they saw the stuff being unloaded by this woman.
