Owls have the softest flight feathers to give them silent flight . They have thick plumage because they are mostly nocturnal hunters . I had an eastern screech owl .

The long eared owls are very cute . It's nice to see them growing up . My native state does not have long eared owls . I have only seen them at Burnette Park Syracuse . My area has Barred owls and Great Horned owls as well as the little Screech owls . I used to call great horned owls out of the forest on certain evenings many years ago near my home . My best response was on a chilly December night when four GHO s came swooping into the pine tops near my yard .

A barn owl can hear a lady beetle walking . The great horned owl can hear a mouse walking on the forest floor from 900 feet away . Owls can hunt easily day or night . Hawks pale in comparison to the owls . When the great horned owl is ready to nest it will evict any type of raptor from their own nest. Whether a red tailed hawk or a bald eagle , the owl does not care . The occupant either submits to the owl or it loses its life . A night time attack from a great horned owl is definitely not pleasant .
