I didn't say it was never clear. Of course there are the big bad guys. But quite often, there are also characters or factions that can both be seen as 'good', even though they fight each other sometimes. Alliance vs. Horde, Protoss vs. Terrans...

Thats where you're wrong. The Zerg aren't evil in themselves, they are merely guided by evil beings. Diablo, granted, is evil, but then again he's a devil, thats kind of expected. The burning Legion in itself isn't evil, they just try to defeat the old gods in another way than the Titans do. The Lich King isn't evil in itself but was merely corrupted by the old gods.

I agree. There is "good" and there is "evil" but none of the heros in the Roster are either or. Most of them are, in one way, pretty freaking messed up. Like Reaper who is constantly going through the pain of dying without really dying. He was a damn hero back in the day who got dealt a crappy hand and now everyone thinks he's dead.Not he's in a constant state of growth and decay and he has to kill people in order to feed himself. Then you got Tracer that seems all happy and perky looking all the time. That Chest piece she wears not only allows her to move forwards and backwards in her own timeline but it actually keeps her "IN" time. Without it she is literally a ghost constantly phasing in and out of time unable to interact her surroundings. For all we know she could have been dealing with her problem for thousands of years through her perception of time. It must have driven her crazy. Anyway the point is everybody in this game has their baggage and their own reason to fight.

Mercy saved Genji's life and Zenyatta saved his soul; helped him accept that he is half robot.

The Shimada Clan is a Japanese crime organization. Hanzo being the eldest of the two was set to succeed in being clan leader. Genji cared nothing for the clan and spent his time enjoying life. The clan gave Hanzo his last test to succeed, kill his brother which he did. Genji miraculously survived long enough for Overwatch to find him and he was saved from death thanks to Dr. Angela Ziegler codename Mercy. Afterwards he worked with Overwatch specifically in their Blackwatch division. Blackwatch specialized in covert ops and assassination. He was sent to kill his own brother because only a select few can control the Spirit Dragons and Overwatch considered Hanzo to be to much of a threat. Genji instead disappeared into the Himalayan mountains and met a wise Omnic monk named Zenyatta. Zen helped Genji to find peace with who and what he was, half man and half machine. And that covers backstory I believe! Also, Recall, Alive and Dragons take place on the actual maps that we play in the game. Pretty neat!

A more detailed explanation ^^^ Also, Blizzard put most of damages seen to the locations in the game. The first arrow that Hanzo shot and Genji dodged, is stuck in the garden hut outside. The scar from the second arrow that hit the wooden floor is there. Even the glass is broken out at Winston's hide-out, where he thrown the guy through it. The big metal gauntlet that Reaper and Widowmaker were trying to steal, shows up as a payload item.(till Doomfist came and got it that is)

You should add that the blade and the blood stains on the Banner are from Genjis and Hanzos battle, the blade is Hanzo's, after killing Genji with it he swore never again to use a blade and left it there.

Dusty 05 It's the shimada blade. With two dragons around it's tsuba, symbolising the "two brothers" again. Of course, it would have been Hanzo's by birthright.

Well originally centuries ago the Shimada clan was a ninja clan first and through out history it evolved into a yakuza (Japanese crime organization as Anthony said above)

Anthony Horner 1. Mercy didn't save Genji. It only states that Overwatch found him on the brink of death and offered him a deal - if he joins Blackwatch and they rebuild his body, he helps Overwatch take down the Shimada clan. 2. Hanzo was already in charge of the clan after their father died, and needed Genji's participation. 3. There's no magic in Overwatch - however, we don't know what technology the Shimada clan uses to produce these dragons. 4. Genji didn't disappear - after Overwatch took down the Shimada clan with his help, he left Overwatch slightly before the blackmailing started happening. 5. Genji apparently rarely ever leaves Nepal.

Hanzo isn't really a bad guy just very troubled and guilt ridden over what he did to Genji. Genji was consumed by vengeance when he was rebuilt as a cyborg. When his family was taken down by Overwatch, Hanzo had already left and Genji was left with his anger and revulsion over his new form. Leaving Overwatch, he traveled around the world, eventually meeting the Omnic monk Zenyatta, who taught him that he was still human and gave Genji the strength to forgive Hanzo.

On the question which of them is good and which is evil: Think of Hanzo as a "morally grey" character. He was the member of a criminal organization, but he has honor with no doubt. Genji on the other hand is one of the "goodest" characters in a way. He was trained to fight for harmony and peace.

It's a sparrow feather, because Genji's nickname used to be sparrow I see the other questions have been answered so I'll leave it to the others

There is no indication that whatever happened with Reaper is her fault. 3. Being forever young wasn't her "goal", stop making up bullshit. Mercy DOES age, but apparently less visually.

Genji is half human half omnic. After Hanzo tried to kill Genji, he barely survived. (I don't know how exactly) Overwatch found him in that state and the doctor Angela Ziegler (Mercy) save him from death. And from that moment he worked with Overwatch. That's all that I know haha. This trailer is my favorite, it's so beautiful :'D. I loved the reaction!

Zero An Omnic by the lore's definition is to be a self aware machine. If Genji was 'half-Omnic' he would have no control over his robotic parts........

So my boy Genji is an Overwatch agent while his brother is just a mercenary. If you remember, Genji is shown alongside Winston and Tracer on one of Winston's photos in the Recall cinematic!

Fairly sure Genji quit Overwatch before it was disbanded.

This is probably my favourite of the Overwatch trailers. It tells such a good story.

This was honestly my favorite short and I'm glad to see you enjoy these! The lore of overwatch is actually super interesting, so you should look into it more (there are videos about it). I don't feel like I can answer your questions since I'm kinda confused myself but I'm sure others will know 😄

One of the cool things about this game is these scenes take place in maps that you can play. This is Hanamura and even though that map type is a pain it really is beautiful.

Hanzo the bow n arrow guy us more like neutral good and Genji is good was part of overwatch. also the feather is part of Genji, since in the back story, he's nickname is little sparrow.

Genji is the "good guy". Their clan, the Shimada ninja clan, ran various illegal things. Early on, this didn't bother Genji. The youngest son of the clan's leader, he led a playboy lifestyle. Although he did pay attention to his ninja training. When their father died, Hanzo was instructed by the clan to straighten out Genji, so they may rule the clan together. Genji refused. Things got heated, and a fight broke out. It was then that Hanzo thought he killed Genji. Hanzo, broken by what he had done, never took his father's place. He left the clan, effectively betraying them. Genji was rescued by Overwatch. And with the help of one Dr Angela Ziegler (Mercy), he was saved and turned into a cyborg. He then set out to dismantle his family's criminal operations. We assume, successfully. After that, he left Overwatch, his mission with them done. But he wasn't the Genji seen here, he was still at war with himself. His machine parts repulsed him. After many wanderings he eventually came across an Omnic monk, Zenyatta (one of the characters in game. Briefly seen in the Alive trailer. He has three glowing dots on his head.) With help from the monk, he was eventually able to reconcile his existence as both man and machine.

I'm so glad you finally reacted to this one! I said it before, I'll say it again, this is my favorite (and the first one I had seen!) Hanzo and Genji are some of my favorite characters, probably because I was introduced to Overwatch through them haha... I think other people probably already explained, but Genji is a cyborg so he's part human part robot? He also has a teacher who's an omnic ! I don't believe he's in any of the animated videos, but if you looked up Zenyatta from Overwatch, thats who Genji's teacher is. I don't know everything but from my understanding he helped him find peace when he became a cyborg?? I really love him too, all the characters are so good. (Sorry this turned into a sort of ramble, I just really love these characters)

Their father nicknamed Genji "Sparrow" as a kid, and those were sparrow feathers. Genji is good, especially after finding his balance. Hanzo is gray, but drifting towards good.

besides the three left, there are also little lore videos that give some more story for a couple characters, such as soldier, sombra, ana and orisa. as well as one on the junkers. as for genji, once more, the overwatch site which includes a number of free canon comics would be good to check out

My first time watching this, I had goosebumps. It was great!

things aren't always as simple as good and evil

Lemme explain the lore behind the cinematic: hanzo and genji lived a very different life in their youth( hanzo almost only trained and genji lived a playboy live) the clan's elders wanted genji to be abandoned or killed but his father sojiro kept protecting him till he died. After that the clan's elders told hanzo to kill genji (which he actually almost did) after their fight was over genji was found barely living by mercy aka Dr. Angela Ziegler (overwatch's chief medic) she told him she would heal him if he'd agree to smash the Shimada clan (because the clan is a drug dealer organisation) genji agreed. After he helped destroying the clan genji started to hate his robotic body and wandered through the world in search of peace till he met the omnic monk zenyatta. Zenyatta invited him to come to the shambali temple so he could help him finding peace with his robotic body. At first genji declined but zenyatta didn't give up till genji has made peace with himself. Zenyatta then told him he should visit his brother to make peace and to forgive him. Basically that's the story behind the cinematic. Fact : hanzo was a very good fighter with the sword (way better than genji) in their fight they both used a sword. After hanzo thought he had killed genji he swore he would never use a sword again. (the swords he kneels in front of at the beginning are his swords). Hope I helped

As most of the other questions have been answered, namely that Genji is with Overwatch and Hanzo his is brother. The question of good or evil though is up to the viewers interpretation. Throughout the trailers you have seen so far, we've been lead to believe that Overwatch are indeed heroes...and yet, Winston was reminded that Overwatch was disbanded and their activities deemed illegal. Makes you wonder what happened yeah, and now Genji as appeared to remind his brother of his duty, the plot thickens, LOL

There is no good or bad. It was one brother telling the other that he forgives him for killing him and that he needs to forgive himself. He even though he doesn't believe in himself his brother does. People live with their sins and feel like they are bad and don't deserve good things. But time heals all and the ultimate form of forgiveness is that which you give yourself.

Ahhhh I love this one it's my second fav Oh and if you go on the overwatch website I think there are character bio that tell more about the characters and their backstories. So if you're curious you can look at those.

LOL its 4:21 am where i live right now. Going on vacation tomorrow. Staying up all night so i can sleep during the journey. Good content to pass the time.

Hanzo walks a path of self loathing and redemption. This makes some sense because not only did he have to kill his own little brother, but he was going to be the new head of a clan of assassins. After killing Genji in the worst way possible he left the clan out of shame and disgrace. He now wonders the world seeking redemption. Genji didn't die, but he sure was about to. Being a natural badass he held out long enough to be saved by Overwatch, got fitted with a new cyborg body, and agreed to join their ranks in order to take the shimada clan down for good, but after that he's left with the conundrum of still being a monstrosity of equal parts man and machine. He wandered the world in hopes of finding a reason to live.... Safe to say he found it and now we are brought up to speed with this thing. As for how Genji found it, well he found it in Robot Jesus. Yes. That is a thing. lol

Genji's eyes were only dark because of the lighting. It was a cinematic choice by the directors.

ok so thanks to Mercy a charcter in over watch Genji was made into A Cyborg Ninga and was part of the Specal operations Unit of Over watch along with McCree and Reaper i think they were Called Boack watch..? i need to look it up agin XD

Genji (cyborg ninja)=good, Hanzo (archer)=troubled mafia leader who suposedly killed his brother, he is at the edge between good an evil.

I recommend watching "Honor and Glory" as soon as possible.

Both genji and hanzo used to be apart of this gang organization in Japan called the "shimada clan",one day,Hanzo and genji had a chance to become the leader of the shimada clan,Hanzo wanted Genji to become the leader,genji refused,which caused Hanzo to kill genji in a brutal battle(not this one),after that,Hanzo left the Shimada clan in grief that he has killed his own brother,but Genji didn't die,he was brutally injured,but was saved by Overwatch,they saved him and gave him the cyborg,NOT OMNIC,body,he then set on a journey to find peace for his new cypernetic body,later on,he went back to Hanamura(which is where The Shimada clan was at),and found Hanzo to to make this cinematic a thing. There is no clear statement on who is Bad and who is good. The tales that was read in the background was a story of their father,that basically tells the story of this cinematic too. The feather is shown because it is a feather of a sparrow,genji had a nickname when he was still living normally with his brother,given to him by his father,which was "Sparrow". After this,Hanzo still had grief and still tries to believe that Genji is dead. Hanzo and Genji both have the power to control the dragons,Hanzo has the "dragon of the south",and Genji had the "dragon of the north". Oh and Hanzo "killed" Genji with a sword,and from that day on,he sworn to never pick up a blade ever again,as it seems that he is better with a sword then Genji. When Genji put the blade at Hanzo's neck,it reminded him about how Hanzo killed Genji,because Hanzo beheaded Genji(it's just a theory though so it isn't proven true). I should stop doing this

Just An Average Genji Main Just one point to make, do not forget that the dragon of the south killed the dragon of the north. Hanzo "killed" Genji. Hanzo has the dragon of the south and Genji has the north. Not the other way around.

The brothers are both good.... in way. Hanzo is the older brother to Genji. He was ordered by the head of the family, to deal with his younger brother not taking the(shady) family business seriously. A fight broke out and Hanzo killed his brother. Or so he thought. Genji was found by (still active at the time) Overwatch personal, saved by Dr. Angela Ziegler(Mercy) and was given the choice to work for them as one of their "Off the books" operatives. After Overwatch was shut down, Genji spent a long time wondering the world, disliking what he had become(a cyborg). One day he ran into one of those omnic monks. Who enlightened him to accept who he is. With Winston's recall of Overwatch operatives, he has went to seek out his older brother and tell him that he too can find purpose in a world that is changing. You seen how that went.

popular misconception most people think that hanzo and genji where dragon and turned human but that story just inspired them the members of the shimada clan arent dragons but they can control the spirits of dragons as it is the shimada clans sprirt animal because if they where dragons why should they fighting as humans arent dragons usally stronger that us do you think you can beat a dragon?
