I like the idea of merit-based immigration. That is what other countries do, and we should to. That doesn't negate the fact that we still need to accept genuine refugees.

canada's immigration system is generally merit-based, but that doesn't apply the same way to refugees. for refugees it's a matter of legitimacy/safety. you can have both approaches so it's not just rich or educated that can come in.

I think Bill is just trying to lend screen time to other candidates who have new, viable ideas and solutions to contribute. There is only so much one can squeeze in 50 minutes per week. Also, I hope we can take the time to think critically and not automatically polarize ourselves over politics. The less of this "Us VS Them" mentality, the better for everyone.

Immigrants don't all have to be elite. We need people who are willing to contribute to society, at _any_ level they are able. That doesn't mean only top-tier earners. The "merit-based" argument is just a way people argue against immigration without _sounding_ classist, because they know that, under a "merit-based" system, most people who will be excluded will be poor.

Our education system (or lack there of) has created enough manual labor class (unskilled workers) for this country, the problems are the wages for such jobs are insufficient to sustain even the modest of lifestyles and the other problem is Americans think they are too good to be bothered to do such jobs (cleaning toilets or picking crop).

He gas called out liberals as pussies compared to conservatives that are willing to go on his show. That being said he should expose his audience even to the very far left social democrats. 20% or so of the country supports them and they should be able to share their views and be challenged on them as well. I hope this is taken in the context I meant and not a political attack.

My girlfriend's parents came here with no college degrees. Her dad quit engineering school in Iran to come to the US. He worked shit jobs in fast food restaurants until he could buy a franchise of one. After he sold that he made his own restaurant. With that restaurant he put his daughter through med school and his son through college (now works as a producer at a local news station) and bought them both houses. He didn't have a day off for 18 years. He was at his restaurant everyday working. He was an unskilled laborer that didn't speak English that, in 1 generation, had a successful small business, raised 2 highly productive members of society, not to mention his wife is a teacher. she came over too. I don't think I need to say more about her. she's a fucking teacher. I know this is isolated to a 1 of 1 but there are stories like this with people coming over here looking for something better than what they had in the place they were born.

I heard Elizabeth Warren Talk on John Stewart's Daily Show twice or three times and so I wonder, "Do you listen to her? I learnt so much from her, she is so good at explaining why our economy has gone wrong or how to better it. She and Michel Lewis are the two who taught me nearly all I know on economy, at least the economy of the last forty years. She taught me about the, boom bang economy of before the 28 crash as well as more recent bits of economy. You should listen to her. You would get lots of ideas from her. I like Bermie Sanders a lot, I also like Elizabeth Warren a lot and I am a person who usually finds candidates to elections pretty uninteresting. I also think that Biden would be fine but the other two would be brilliante. He is a sort of reliable guy, and kind, not too, too anything, to do anything dramatically wrong.

It was a very bad day for the cause of protecting America’s wilderness and resources some years back when the Sierra Club secretly took $100 MILLION in tainted donations from Wall Street investor David Gelbaum. The enormous contribution came with STRINGS ATTACHED, namely the stipulation that America’s flagship green organization would not mention EXCESSIVE IMMIGRATION as harmful to the environment generally and resource preservation in particular. As a result, the Club management rejected its own previous environmentally proper immigration policy of population stabilization with no explanation. The real cause was a closely guarded secret for years!!
