Norm Macdonald replies with "sarcasm, you mean sarcasm. He invented sarcasm." Something like that. So I thought he was a stuck up asshole. Last week was really good
Bill, let me rephrase what the woman was trying to get across. Throughout the history of modern Quatar, the death rate among the worker class when constructing these large projects is 5x higher than most other places in the world. There are zero safety regulations, workers are paid substandard wages, their visas are held hostage until they complete the work, treated as sub human compared to Qatari citizens. Quatar also treats women as property, has medieval laws regarding how women can dress, there is no freedom of speech or any of the basic freedoms most humans enjoy.
@GoGreen1977
Жыл бұрын
I spent two weeks in Qatar about 10 years ago. Women, at the time, had many more rights than women in other Middle Eastern countries. They could drive, vote, and run for office. Many attended college, in Qatar and in other countries, and worked out of the home. Most didn't cover their faces and, I was told, many women didn't wear the burqas, but that wasn't apparent because they blended in with the women from other countries who live/work there. As an American woman, visiting Qater on official business, I just wore my regular work clothes. After hours, I didn't wear short shorts or tank tops, but otherwise, again, I wore what I wanted. I'm not saying women had equal rights with men, but women weren't hidden away and subjected to harsh restrictions. Maybe the laws have changed....

The reports of 15,000, 6,500 or 1,000 deaths of people working on construction sites is so misleading it is frankly fake news. These various figures are based on the total number of migrant deaths in Qatar regardless of cause since Qatar was given the World Cup 10 years ago. There’s zero evidence that they all worked on construction sites for the World Cup or that their death was related to the World Cup in any way. It seems to be a myth perpetuated by Amnesty International and the Guardian.

@@moonflower48 That’s not the number of deaths on construction sites or workers on the World Cup. That’s the total deaths of all migrants in Qatar in the last 10 years. It includes all deaths regardless of where people worked or the cause of death. It’s genuine fake news.
Nobody died making Mt. Rushmore.
I love it when Bill has such a giggle 🤣
Brilliant guests and best show of the season! ❤️ Thanks, Bill, and happy holidays 🎄
Bill, love your show and I am gonna miss it during your break, but enjoy the break! Absolutely loved seeing Matthew Perry’s quick wit, I’m looking forward to seeing his work in the future!
Laura Coates is so great. No wonder she's been on the show twice this year. In fact, this season has had the best guests overall in a very long time.

The way she read the ideological party line and trashed Qatar w/no research was ignorant.

@@usinglogic Qatar is on the $h*t list for a variety of abuses: On May 15, 2019, Qatar’s human rights record was examined before the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) during the country’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR). The UPR is a peer-review mechanism, during which UN Member States make recommendations to the state being reviewed on how to improve the human rights situation in the country. Qatar received recommendations from 104 states in total on a variety of topics including the state’s international obligations, counter-terrorism legislation, freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, women’s rights, and migrant workers’ rights.
