They do that because it is not a partisan issue both the left and right are fine with corporations taking your privacy away. They just disagree on who should get the rights to do it, and that comes down to who puts money in whos pockets. This is no real secret, but now the country is awake because we dont have a smooth talking democrat in office to make us feel better about it. Lets not just fight to stop this BS that ISPs can now do lets take back internet privacy as a whole.

DownloadDeX - how does your car insurance work??? You pay premiums not knowing if you'll ever need to get the benefits, since you don't know if you'll ever cause an accident. And yet your insurance covers & pays benefits to millions of other insured people, some of whom may cause way more accidents than you! Same thing with health care: you don't know if you'll ever be hospitalized or get cancer. Other people may get sick more or less often than you. Such is life. So everyone should pay in a certain percentage of their wages/salary, in the same way that everyone has to have liability car insurance.

Only 30% of every dollar reaches it's target. And no citation needed, you completely ignorant moron. Plus, the monetary system makes it impossible to pay the debt since there is not enough currency, not even remotely, to pay the debt. A deflationary bust will kill the dollar sooner or later, just like it was about to do during the 2007/2008 crisis, problem which was only delayed and not fixed, not at all.

I wanted to be able to hear Santorum so I could know what I disagree with, not shout him down with info that is probably relevant but impossible to understand at her pitch. I feel like an asshole, but the whole time I was just like "shut up!" when she kept interrupting. Her points might have all been entirely valid, but a little more decorum would have gone a looooong way for winning her arguments against him. Let him speak and THEN hit him with a zinger rebuttal, dont interrupt so much that whole audience just hates you and everything you stand for just because you behaved more like a bully than the guy whose policies should automatically make him the disliked one. You shouldn't have to beat him over the head, that's Maher's job anyway. o.o I feel like a jerk but I had to express this frustration! This makes liberals look terrible. And invites sexist reduction too. smh

Maybe if people in the political realm listened to each other, that 'compromise' and 'bipartsan' feature would kick in more frequently, and if they really got good at listening to each other they might come up with inventive solutions where all problems were actually solved and everyone could be happy.

Why should a baby born in poverty suffer lack of health care due to lack of money? Why is the US the only "advanced" economy without universal health coverage? It's not that we can't afford it - actually we can't afford not to have it.

Santorum's statements on healthcare AVAILABILITY show how out of touch from reality he is. FACT: if you don't have health insurance, you are denied certain preventive coverage which, in the end, IS life saving. Anyone who has been there or has friends or relatives who have been there, knows this. Unregulated health insurance industry means unavailable healthcare to millions. That's what we had before and that is exactly what Santorum and his ilk want us to go back to.

@@brettreading8611 There has always been a number of things I lean conservative on; namely, law and order (some people are unsalvageable and just need to be put and kept away), the environment (not going along with the environmentalist hysteria and nature-worshipping), and, as mentioned above, federalism and states' rights because I believe it gives people options to be governed in ways that are closer to their beliefs. Regulation is a case-by-case basis. There has been a new thing since then, which is opposing the woke and SJWs. Things I'm left-wing on is spending on public transit, especially in big cities. This benefits both transit users and car users as it takes would-be car drivers off the road and alleviates congestion. Another one would be child benefit payments and anything that increases the birth rate - though it should be only made to households that pay taxes so as to not encourage bums to just pop out kids for a living.

So you can have angels but it is still going to end one way because of human fallibility. America until 1913 didn't have an income tax and the government spending was in the single digits...it became the richest country in history. The idea you need big government is false.

Why didn't Bill or Neera call that pile of Santorum out better there at the end? It's always frustrating when the pundits I support shake their heads and roll their eyes instead of debating with facts. Or maybe I'm just frustrated that he got the last word here before Maher called it a night. Medicaid expansion helps tremendously. The issue is that there is still a stigma against those on Medicaid and poorer people still have to go to the ER because they can't necessarily afford the means to get to a primary care doctor for regular care. They are either disabled or working multiple jobs, have kids they prioritize over themselves. To the point where they end up in the ER simply because their ailments are no longer routine but rather emergent. Point being there are many reasons why they still end up in the ER. It's not cut and dry like Santorum tried to make it sound. There's a reason why he was voted out of office. Not like he stepped down on his own accord. Likewise, the free market in terms of health insurance fucks people over regularly because it gives the insurance companies the "freedom" to fuck their customers over. People forget that one of the major reasons healthcare reform was necessary was not simply to provide for the uninsured, but also to stop allowing insurance companies to fuck over their customers, who paid premiums and copays, but were denied because the insurance companies felt like fucking over their clients instead of paying out. Total fuckage. Because "for profit" insurance companies don't work, save to buy the next yacht of an insurance CEO while denying a sick mother's cancer treatment because cancer is a preexisting condition. The average person doesn't have much "freedom" when you read the fine print, if we go back to the way things were. Maybe the freedom to choose which corporation fucks you over. But that's about it. Yet that's what Republicans like Santorum (those still actually in congress, at least) want to go back to. They favor the corporations who own them over their own constituents. People seem to forget just why health insurance reform was absolutely necessary. The Obama administration didn't go far enough because of Republican obstinance. And Republicans want to go backwards now, even though they've more than proven in just a few weeks under Trump that all they could do was say no. Given the ball and an opportunity to step up and lead, only further exposed the Republican ineptitude. It's easy to win elections by talking a big time without having to step up, but the Republicans have more than proven that all they sold us was a bill of goods, or rather a bill of bullshit, or a bill of the frothiest Santorum. Obamacare was a shaky step, in part because the Republicans didn't want to help out, but no one exactly expected it to be smooth early on, either. The clusterfuck that is Washington DC under Trump put out such a joke of a replacement, that Republicans hated it. 7 years to come up with something better and that's what we got? Pathetic.

For almost every single medical condition there is, the earlier you address and treat it, the less expensive it is. If the only healthcare you have is an unaffordable ER, by the time it gets bad enough that you have to actually GO to the ER, not only are you probably dead already, but it's a hell of a lot more expensive too.
