Lilly, have you ever tried making a raised bed to sleep upon. With a decent cover and a raised bed, you can take rocks you warmed beside the fire and toss them under your bed to dampen the convection action of the frozen ground. With a nice fire and raised bed you will rest much easier and stay warmer. I would like to see you build a raised bed in a shelter. I really enjoy your videos and of course... My wife and I love that dog. He is very cute.

Another great video Lily! I just love watching these kinds of videos when I can't actually get out there myself. So many good ideas! My problem is that it seems like every time I go out overnight, or whenever, the darn wind always blows. Makes a fire a bit risky, and without a fire it gets a bit cold sometimes.

I could watch your videos all day long! Great shelter and sleeping bag idea. This is why I got into bushcraft because you can make your own gear and its not dominated by corporate sponsors telling you what buy, like most other sports . In fact its the opposite , I have more respect for a person who can spend the night in the woods with a wool blanket and a space blanket than I do for someone with a $1000.00 cuban fibre tent and a $500.00 sleeping bag. Thanks for your videos they are just great.

Miss Lilly, GOOD JOB! You would probably enjoy a larger ground tarp, curled up on the edge toward your shelter tarp, to keep that wind from blowing under the edge, or keep rain from seeping in through the same gap. I enjoy Dax's antics! I think he and my Australian Shepherd would enjoy each other's company.

I really like the modified space blanket design. I had never thought of joining two together to make a larger shelter. Great videos, please keep posting as they are very enjoyable to watch.

There is a natural mosquito and insect repellent you can get in any wooded area anywhere.. Here we call it punkwood. Punkwood is the wood from any tree that is in a stage of decay where it feels almost like styrofoam in consistency. Light and a dry squishy but not so decayed that if you squeeze it between your fingers it disintegrates. Just find a piece of punkwood and cut it down to the size you need, then position it where when you light it, the smoke will waft towards your camp. If the weather is dry you may have a hard time putting it out though, a dirt cover works well. If it is wet weather you may have to start it a couple of times or shave it and drop it on kindling adding bigger pieces of punkwood as the shavings dry out. Hickory leaves are good to add to your bedding to keep out bugs, especially chiggers and spiders. Bracken fern leaves are good for mosquitoes. Just crush the leaves and rub them on your skin. It masks your odor and the mosquitoes are less likely to bite you ! French Mulberry also works wonders if you crush the leaves and rub them on your skin and so does Wax Myrtle leaves. Hope this helps Lilly or anyone who wants to keep bugs and mosquitoes away!

Nice video Lilly! I like the space blanket setup. Last October I took my favorite tarp and attached a mylar survival blanket with spray adhesive and it worked so well to reflect the heat onto me. It snowed the one night I used it and my tarp was set up like yours, as a lean too and I never got cold. Great! But…I could never get that adhesive to stop sticking to EVERYTHING! I folded it and rolled it up the next morning and later the tarp was stuck to itself! LOL! Mylar kept tearing off…Maybe it's time to call on the Pathfinders School for a tarp like yours…Thanks for sharing Lilly! ATB…Tim

Tarptent and Six Moon Designs are 2 tent companies I hear mentioned. The best way to kill mosquitoes is to find the big water bodies and put bat houses near them. To make earplugs, melt some beeswax and add some oil (preferably an alkane). Bee lining is the process of finding bees. It's a waste of time.

That's a nice setup you have there. I have a back packing tent I use for trips like that. I've used it also in the winter when it's 20 degrees out and with a small heater in it it was very warm inside. I put a tarp over it also and leave the door open for ventilation and just close the screen. The cot I used to use in it wore out though and so I recently bought a new one. It's better than the one I had since it's lighter and the legs are U shaped so it doesn't poke into the tent floor.

When I first saw your videos, I was concerned about the fires that you light in close proximity to your shelter. But I have realised that you use naturally safe materials. I like the wool sleeping bag, it would not be affected by embers that blew onto it. You also seem very confident with fire, I have lived with open fires for many years, so I am hardened to scrunching burning paper out with my hands and picking up burning embers. How did you get your hands so tough? I have recently bought a pair of buffalo hide pants and they are windproof as well as not affected by fire. A few months ago I stomped out a knee high grass fire wearing them and they were not even singed.

Greetings from Denmark. I'm not sure who enjoys it most, you or the dog. When I make a spruce bed I poke the cut-off branch parts into the earth and make them overlap. That way you cut down in the pokeing in the back(: I very much enjoy your videos I must say girls who are into bushcraft are quite rare. Clever thing to use the embers to hollow your spoon.. Regards Mads

The spoon was as good as the cooking the eggs on the shovel- maybe better. I knew with that fire and reflective surfaces you would be hot. Wonderful watching you go about your camp work- you just go straight to it with ease.

Excellent Lilly! Cool mod on the space blanket, just a tape job or did you sew it too? Ear plugs for the skeeters, great idea! Going to add that to the kit as they can just about carry you away up here in Canada. Nice spoon, a little bit of sanding and it'll be perfect. How cool did the temperatures get overnight? Did you have a good water source nearby?

Very enjoyable video as always. I find that smoke deters mosquitos greatly, maybe a side fire with green wood?
