I can't believe how choked up I just got when you put down that sheepskin for Dax! He was such a great companion for you.
Hey Lilly, just a quick addition to your winter camp. I spent 8 years in the U.S. Army, and some time in Korea. In February that country is freezing. When I was a young soldier, we bedded down for the night in our sleeping bags (arctic and rated to -15 deg.) we had our uniforms on and that consisted of, field jacket, tunic and trousers, sweater, scarf, wool gloves, wool underwear and heavy socks. Most of us rolled our field jackets as pillows, but we're ready to sleep in the other stuff. An old sergeant came around and made us strip down to our long underwear. He told us if we slept in our close we wouldn't warm up during the day because we would never be as warm as in our bags. He also told us to sleep in our socks, but put an extra pair folded in our coat, that way the sock would be warm and dry to wear. Long story short: 1. sleep in a warm sleeping bag with only enough to keep you warm through the night 2. Spread your top layers out under the bag and sleep on them, it will keep them warm and dry, but not hot. 3. Sleep on your coat with and extra pair of socks tucked in. 4. Sleep in a knit cap it head wrap and keep your heavy hat for the day. Hope this helps for when you brace a week in your awesome shelter. You are the best, love your videos.

In Boy Scouts we were tought the part about not sleeping in your clothes and spreading them out under our sleeping bag and we told that the reason for getting out of you clothes is to let the moisture from wearing them dry out so they will be better insulators during the next day. Seemed to make a difference.
Thank you Lilly fir sharing this video..I'm currently doing a walk over 2000 miles from Massachusetts to Texas and it's winter now...your video is heart warming and I will watch aa many as possible..my journey is for homeless veterans...be blessed and you are a wonderful person..Prax

Your food somehow made me so hungry. I know what it's like eating outside in the cold, when you just feel famished, and that food is just ready to warm and fill you up. One of the best feelings in the world.
Thank you for teaching people to leave an offering of thanks.

***** Yes, Vikings! Read some history. Most of the northern Germanic tribes, the Russians, Hungarians, Austrians, Romanians, and even northern Turks were infiltrated and over-run by Vikings. Look at the old Nazi propaganda films where they tout their arian Viking heritage. The largest brick castle in Eastern Europe is a Viking stronghold in southern Hungary. Yes Vikings. I meant it as a compliment to her. What would you call her? A Yuppy Urban Generation Xer out for a romp in the woods?
@dwightstewart7181

Rick Bohleber No, I don't call her anything. I don't go around trying to characterize others. By the way, you're talking about some mighty ancient history that very few Europeans today would identify with.

y1kbug Agreed. That's all I was trying to say about Miss Lilly. She kicks ass and conquers.
I worked for a sleeping bag company years ago. The rating factors 3 assumptions. 1. The person has insulated ground cover 2. There is no air movement over the bag(so in a shelter) 3. The person is male. The rule of thumb is you add -2 to the sleeping bag rating if female. But the killers are ground temp, and wind. Also a big factor is state of mind. So this video shows perfect conditions: the well insulated ground cover, shelter, and state of mind is excellent. And -1 rating in these conditions is really cosy. This person would be excellent to teach kids. A study showed the first experience kids have of survival camping needs to be positive.
I love how easy lilly is to please. This is all she needs to be happy.
I was stationed in Germany in the late 70's and Early 80's. The German people in general are a great nation. They are hardy and friendly, for the most part. Lilly personifies this in every way. This is a great video. Love that you brought your dog along. When you brought out the beer, I had to chuckle. You go girl.

Absolutely NOTHING is better than a good roaring fire to keep up the spirits and to keep warm! You do a very good job, Lilly!
Enjoy your time in nature, be kind and loving to your dog, savor your one and only beer today and leave a gift for the forest animals... perfect message.
I know others have said it before, but can I just say I found it absolutely BEAUTIFUL how you left some nuts for the wildlife, as a 'thank you'. At 4:59 , 9:11 , 9:16 , and 11:18 you have captured some amazing scenes. The blue light of twilight at 4:59, the fire scenes at 9:11 and 9:16, the morning in the woods at 11:18. Truly lovely. Excellent photography / cinematography.
pretty cool watching the fire, it gives you a chance to reflect...
I noticed your shelter is good for long term stay. Depending on what country you live in you should consider perhaps planting a few fruit trees and raspberry bushes near/ around your camp. Becuase if something where to happen and you had to stay in it long term the Fruit would be good to eat.

Great videos Lilly, I really enjoy them. Just a suggestion if I may. You might consider adding a few paper plates to your kit. Use these when you feed your dog. This way the food does not get on the ground inside your shelter area where small bits of left over dog food can attract other animals or ants. When the dog finishes eating just toss the paper plate in the fire and you don't have to worry about any left overs. Just an idea. Keep those videos coming, we are really enjoying them here in Alabama. Austria is a beautiful country.
Leaving the nuts as an offering to mother nature and all creatures was so nice. Your a special person lilly

Hey Lilly, I'm stuck in town for a while and misses so much living in the forest and just being out on the road all year. I'd like to thank you for sharing with us those moments, brings back good memories and help me not freaking out until the day I'll finally go back to the wild. Much love to you and your companion.
LG Felix

Steve Morse: When my brother and I were youngin's, we spent our time in the woods, living on a 100 acre farm we had plenty of woods. Our favorite was a cave like area, that had moss in it, so we called it carpet, nowadays the young ones are too busy playing inside with their electronics, I always take my grandsons in the woods and teach them about how to identify trees, bushes, edible roots, etc. They enjoy it, as do I. I would love to have them to help make a place like Lily. They could also use it when hunting. Thank You Lily for sharing with us.

I've been watching your videos and have subscribed. I love watching you love what you do. You bring a smile to my face every time you are finished for the evening and ready to pop your beer and relax. I'm so glad to see you have the courage to camp alone as far as being a woman is concerned, I have only camped 3 x in my life and I loved it. I'm old now, but would still love to do it. You have been such a delight to watch and encouraging. Do it all Lilly while the body is able, live your life to the fullest , and take God with you ;).
I loved the thoughtful gesture and offering at the end ... God bless. xx

Lilly, I have enjoyed your videos so much. They are basic survival instructions and easy to try. Personally I would ditch the salami and rice and get Campbell's soup. They are easy to prepare and taste so good. I would also drape a tarp or visqueen over the entrance to block wind and rain or snow from getting on my bedding, etc. Also my dog would be hurt if I didn't let her sleep with me. Thanks for your adventures.

As far as I know, Lilly makes an effort filming and editing herself. Stick your camera on or onto something and stand before it, then move and start over, do post production with editing etc. About the dog. That could, have been a fun joke, but sadly, the dog at the time passed away last year. Lilly mentioned this several times, including in one Q&A video.
So awesome you have such a sweet area to have your camp.

Rhonda Kelley I agree that both genders should post a lot about survival. But if your comment is sincere, (I wouldn't know, as I am a male.) it just goes to show that minimalist packing, and bugging out in groups could yield much more than you'd think.

+Zednought Wastelander I agree with Rhonda 100%. The thing is, men are literally biologically designed to carry heavy things on our shoulders; we are not. So trying to go lighter is always a good thing for a woman. I think more women should post camping/hiking/bushcraft videos!
@UncleFexxer

Agreed with Rhonda and Rachel, from a man's perspective. A lot of male survivalists go overboard with the "stuff" aspect of outdoor survivalism and overpack until they look like Sam Gamgee from the LotR movies. I always like watching the (few) female backpackers' videos out there because there's a big focus on minimalism and ultralight packing. I've met women who were better at "roughing it" than a lot of guys simply because they can't carry all that crap and don't really have a choice.
@accessaryman
8 жыл бұрын
+UncleFexxer agree with that but have to add, until recently the ultra light gear wasn't available and us older guys and the ladies, we had to use what w's available, which means the heavy gear, and as we are used to it and have it e still use it, though for me am sow replaying with the light gear so long as it has longevity and does what its spose to do, am all for it 😉
