Overlanding to HOSTING Overlanders in Mexico (EP 51)
In this episode we introduce you to some of those travellers and we embrace our role of hosts. We loved the feeling and would love to continue in the future if we ever settle!
In the last video Nick completed his physiotherapy and finally was able to walk! But despite this we are not back on the road. Nick still has physiotherapy to complete so we remain stuck for a bit in Cancun and then Playa de Carmen in the state of Quintana Ron, on the Yucatan Peninsula.
Despite that we figure out a way of continuing being part of the journey in a way. It all started with a post we made on social media. It went along the line of: "we have a place for a few weeks in the area, if you are travelling or overlanding around, stop by and say hi!". And it worked... People we know and people we did not know started coming over.

I had a smile on my face the whole time watching this video. Amazing how those interactions with people you just met seemed so enjoyable and real. The kids helping Mathilde were adorable

Sometimes an injury like Nick’s turns out to be a good thing. By this I mean being able to have restful days, catching up with vehicle maintenance, meeting overlander friends new and old, and for Mathilde - computer work and editing too. Also lovely to see Tom and Jerry again!

As you say Mathilde, when you have a community of people who share something you can have many activities in common, share information and have a good time, you and Nick had a good idea to be hosts for other overlanders.

Us too! Hahahah such a great gift from being stuck! We have realigned our travelled schedule (maybe we meet again in the future which was not a given )
When I was a bit younger I use to run a lot and had physio for a knee problem. I remember when watching the Grand National horse race in England and during a look back at previous winners they showed a documentary on Redrum. He had gone lame and was struggling to get fit. The trainer use to trot him in the sea. He claimed the Salt water was beneficial for the horses legs. I spoke to my physio about this, who said it would help and to buy sea salt and soak in the bath. It did make it feel better and helped healing. Nick you have a great opportunity to soak your leg in the sea the warm salty water should help. obviously clear it with your physio, I wouldn't want you to make things worse. Good luck in getting back on the road again.

I enjoyed your video so much. In the 1970s there was no social media. We left notes on a cork board at the local natural food co-op. People passing through Ashland, Oregon would find our invitation and just show up. There were no mobile phones, no phone at all for miles. Our visitors stayed a bit longer. Several months was not uncommon. I married one visitor. Things were a bit different for hippies on communes. If people fit, they stayed for a while. Stay safe. Have fun.

Rock on! When working I would always put in music from Cabo verde or Trinidad or Cuba to get a bit of sun in cloudy Brussels !

If you’re going to change oil in a parking lot you might consider replacing the oil pan plug with a petcock and getting a flexible tube to control the flow when you open the petcock. I think they actually sell them as a kit. Much less mess.
