Overlanding Peru: the desert road to Cusco (through the dunes) - EP 79
Desert road, colourful laguna, getting lost, learning Quechua, flying above the Nazca lines, mountain roads, and Cusco!
Last week we finally completed the upgrades on our Land Rover Defender: project Albatross 2.0. That was a long work but totally worth it.
In this episode we are finally able to leave the city and take the route to adventure again. This time we change from the mountains and head to the coastal desert of Peru. And what a surprise, we thought it would just be a road like any other and we discovered a gorgeous and unique tracks. What a gift for our return on the road.
But this was not all. We also went on to discover the Nazca lines and completed the long journey to the city of Cusco. A long journey indeed!
After a short surprise break we are back in Cusco again next week for some of our last adventures in Peru!
Don’t forget to subscribe to the channel to be sure we continue travelling together in the weeks to come!
Until next week, take care!

Great drone footage - makes clear how HUGE Peru is - and Albo is doing well with his new crampons. The Nazca lines - amazing. Reminiscent of some of the tantalising fragments of technology from ancient Greece. If humans got that far back then, how much could we have achieved by now if we would only stop having wars and burning books?

Hey Catherine! It makes sense there much less to “visit” it is a lot of nothing over there. But if you have a chance one day and a bit of time it is definitely interesting. There is so much to see in Peru it is hard to cover it all

Im from Peru and I grew up going to Paracas and yes, it can be very tricky following the path and also dangerous as it often goes along vertical cliffs but is very beautiful and isolated. The coast of Peru is absolutely beautiful and the Andes Mountains block the moisture from the Rain forest in the east, the desert is all sand and mountains with very little vegetation except in the valleys where the rivers run. I used to go all over those places and really miss those trips. Congratulations! Great adventure!

Wow...Nasca lines🎉
Machu Picchu has become a touristic nightmare with all the regulations for sustainable use that have been implemented (designated circuits to follow, entry tickets that need to be booked in advance, necessity to have a guide, entry schedules for each itinerary, total stay limited to 4 hours...). I hate to say it was better in the past, but one of my best travel memory was spending 4 hours absolutely alone in Machu Picchu. That was in 1981, when the entry of the site was free (just a modest fee for the bus from Aguas Caliente) and the trick was to be able to book a room at the small hotel near the ruins. I had the whole place for myself from 6AM to 10AM, when the tourists taking the train from Cuzco started to arrive. It was absolutely magical. I really hope you enjoy your visit, but don't expect too much with so many restrictions.

I'm happy you stopped at the Nazca lines. So crazy the sand has not covered the lines. Were you able to see more than was in the video? So interesting that pictures are only visible from above. Good use of the drone!! Was Nick's sweater from Peru? I love the rug in Albatros soo much! Beautiful!❤
Quite the extreme opposites, tropical vegetation to Barron sand for miles. Awesome! Had to be a crazy change from few people to to many people and back. I think I like the fewer people more.
