We are new to the world of overlanding and are currently building a Tacoma overland rig. Your videos are our inspiration. We live in WV where a lot of your trips are in our back yard. The biggest plus is seeing that big ‘ol Ram make it through some really hairy spots. I tell my wife, if that guy can make it, we can make it. We hope to bump into y’all one day and thanks for the amazing footage 👍🏼

A Tacoma is a great overlanding platform! The myth that a truck can't do the east coast trails is just not true. Some obstacles do take a little more finesse but others are actually easier with a little bigger vehicle. The extra room and load carying capability is a big plus also. There's no "wrong" way to do it. The biggest thing is to start enjoying the trail with whatever works for you! Hope to see you out there! Thanks for watching!

Howdy neighbors! Tacoma guy here in eastern PA. Bought a '21 TRD Offroad Access Cab last July after taking a ride in my buddy's overland built 4Runner. New to the overlanding game, too! Used to wheel an 08 JKU, but always a pickup guy at heart. Maybe I'll see you on the trail one day soon! WV is beautiful!

Your videos are great and make me want to get a 4WD for my next vehicle and get out there :) I think I could get used to having better camp amenities and covering more ground than I do on my feet! I have a power wagon I reached out to you before about a trail that you did I believe it was 303 and I asked if you thought my power wagon could make it down it. You said yeah but I bet it would be pin stripped like crazy from Kentucky. I wonder how many pinstripes the new Rubicon got it I don’t even wanna think about the power wagon. Sends chills up my back

Didn't you go thru the KY carwash section after the Elk viewing station? At the 1:42 mark we had a group of on looker camping there. They took one look at our rigs, said they doubt we could clear the bank. If we managed to, the ruts at the top of the hill would stop us. Yes the ruts were large for our rigs ( 2 renegades running 3 inch lifts, 1 old yj on 33s, a samurai on 33s and my Liberty running a 3 inch lift. ) would have loved to hear that conversation when we didn't come back down, tail tucked between our legs.

I went through Appalachia in November-December 2020, and the locals were attempting to claim Black Mountain as private hunting property. The locals actually asked me to take the KAT off the internet. We discussed this with the founder on Facebook and turns out it is not an irregular occurrence. Wouldn't be surprised if the gate around 1:29:40 was put up by locals, not government. Shame because Black Mountain provides a great view and some fun mild-moderate trails

Though my body is wider the track widths of the Power Wagon and Bill and Deb's Jeep are within inches of each other. That said, due to length I have to plan the tight spots a bit more. I need to pick how I enter based on where the truck needs to be to exit. The biggest impact is in chosing a line. Sometimes I only have one choice when the Jeeps can swing left or right to make for better wheel placement.

What an awesome video. That KAT 1000 looks cool. I’m not in a full size vehicle. I’m in a side by side that’s been modified, titled and plated in NC (street legal). Do you know if I could do the Daniel Boone trails snd the KAT if I’m street legal? That was a great camp site you found up there near Matewan, WV. We ride through there a lot and love to feed carrots to the horses. We are running into a lot of gates these days. I use Lifetime Trailmaps and I’m sending in updates every time we encounter a gate. A lot of hunting leases are taking over the land and gating it off. Just part of the adventure, I suppose! Love watching your channel. Keep up the great work.

Have lived in eastern Kentucky my whole life and drive a lot of these back roads. You could probably run this whole thing with a side by side straight off the show room floor. If you dont drive like an idiot most all police will leave you alone. I think the law is interpreted as you can drive about any road, but interstate, as long as you are traveling straight from your entrance on the road to where you will exit. No cruising basically. If you get pulled over they'll ck your cooler for beer and tell you to get it off the road

Question for you guys, being down in the south, NC for example, when you’re out on an adventure how do you keep your tent from getting moldy after rain in the humidity of the south? I’ve watched your videos and this is heavy on my mind lol

Great question Brett! With the smaller tent I usually use I don't actually pack it between uses when it's been really wet out. I put the ground cover and rain fly spread out on top of everything in the bed under the tonneau. The main tent body I lay out in the back seat on top of the stuff back there. It dries pretty well during the day of driving. On less wet days I put it loosly in it's tote in the bed without the cover on. The big Gazelle gets the same treatment but the main tent body goes in the bag but it doesn't get closed. The fly and ground cover spread in back also. The room to do that is one of the things I really like about the Power Wagon for trips like these. Thanks for watching.

Brett, We shake as much rain as we can off of it and put it away. As soon as we get to camp, if summertime we open it and windows up with a fan running. If wintertime, we open as soon as we get to camp and place a fan and heater inside. Once we get home, we open to make sure everything is completely dry before closing till next trip. So far, doing it this way, we have had no mildew or smell.

Great videos! Trying to plan a trip to do the KAT pretty soon and I have a couple of questions, you can respond off the site if you prefer. The organizers say 5 days to 6 days if you take the hard sections. I know Jeff Stoess rides a dirt bike and in my experience an experienced rider can move at 2 or 3 times the speed of a normal 4wd in the rough stuff. My question is how many days did it take you to complete the full KAT 900/1000 miles? Secondly do you think it's feasible to complete the trip in 5 or 6 days at a relatively leisurely pace? Lots of the trip looks very scenic and I'd hate to rush through it. Seems like 150 to 200 miles per day would be tough if you're going 10 mph at best in the dirt sections. My brother and I drive a '17 4Runner Off Road with a modest lift but pretty well armored, std. size A/Ts. It's pretty capable but I don't like to beat it up by going too fast. Actually your driving in the videos look similar to our speeds which is why I'm asking. Thanks in advance for your thoughts/experience! And keep up the great work! Jay
