I used to work in a court setting. You'd be surprised how many women come in with PJ pants. If I was the judge I would send them home before hearing their case. The opposite is also true. Women coming in dressed as if they were going to a disco. Very bad taste.

Also had a very good refund experience on a dress (I'm in the Netherlands). Nevertheless, I'm pretty much over my Temu phase, thank goodness. ;) Too easy to get distracted from things I might actually need to goodies I might just want though I'd never have thought of them if they hadn't been shown. 😄

I grew up in Scotland and in school we wore uniforms so I’ve been polishing my shoes for quite a few years now. I definitely agree that unpolished shoes are really sloppy and cheap looking.

I’m agreeing with you on every point. Never been a fan of logo clothing. I never thought about a short zipper in jeans, maybe because I never had any. Another fashion mistake, wearing bedroom slippers out or bathing suit to Walmart. Especially since most women’s bathing suits these days are thong. Even living in a beach community it’s just WRONG!

Anyone who buys "Junior" sized jeans (some petite women prefer that for sizing), these ones also tend to come with shorter zippers.

A former coworker from Mississippi told me once that she would never leave the house without a full face of makeup and her hair done. Growing up in Mississippi, she said the only excuse for going out even to the gas station with your face bare was if your momma died. She said she was moving and ran to the grocery to pick up lunch for the movers. A church friend saw her and was immediately horrified. She said with tears in her eyes, “when did your momma fall ill?” Glynda laughed and explained that she hadn’t lost her mom, she was just surprised by the movers who showed up hours early. She hadn’t had time to fix her face. They both laughed and her friend said she understood. But Glynda never left home without makeup again.

😂😂😂 My mother was like that. She put on a full face of makeup every day even if she didn't plan on leaving the house! It just made her feel better. My 88 yr old MIL and 82 yr old aunt still wear lipstick and mascara every day. I'm not quite so rigid. I will go makeup free if I'm having a "home" day or if I'm just running to the grocery, etc. But I have found that if I run to the store with no makeup, in my sweats, it's guaranteed that I will run into multiple people I know! 😂😂😂 So I try to put on some concealer, mascara, lipgloss, if nothing else

I’m of the era where you had to wear your Levi jeans enough to have naturally caused the rips and fades (hippie age). It became a badge of honor to have lived life in your Levi’s enough to have created bedraggled hems, fades and rips. Some people wore holes in their back pockets. THAT was a pair of jeans telling a long story. Often kids would covet their older siblings worn out jeans because the jeans had been imbued with their sibling’s adventures (misadventures??) and milestones in their lives. You know the saying - if walls could talk - the same went for a worn out pair of Levi jeans. For that reason, I never got on board with the short cut, cheapened version of pre faded or ripped jeans. No, just NO.

I grew up wearing jeans till they got holes in them and having to patch them because we didn't want holes in them. We made patches so we could continue to wear them. I have never understood why anyone would buy a pair of jeans already worn out and ready for the trash heap. 😂

Those long pointed nails. Painted different colors not only ugly but not sanitary, even with short nails prior to my food prep l keep nail brushes at the sink and boy do l use them All kinds of dirt filth collect under those. It's gross l scrub under my nails rinse then scrub again. I see these long, very long nails on women working in restaurants. I.ask why, why are they so long, no answer so.far I check out a restaurant before eating some are clean most are not.

Hi Serena! It seemed to me that, from your point of view, a classic look is more attractive for us ladies of a certain age. And I agree. The fashion industry is so polluting to our planet. The dyes are toxic and making fabric uses huge amounts of water. So buying classic styles that can be worn for more seasons can be less expensive and better for Mother Earth. Also, when the garment is still not worn looking, sometimes you can have it restyled. I don’t know how much that costs as I upcycle my own clothes, but I would think some minor alterations such as hemming or replacing buttons or taking in the side seams for instance would be cheaper than buying a new garment. I hope you will mention this on your channel. Thanks.

Thanks for mentioning the water waste and pollution of high fashion. So important especially now with almost irreversible climate change. My fav clothes are cotton everything, no jeans (uncomfortable), hand embroidered blouses like the Ukrainian ones.

My mom, too. She hasn’t shopped in a real store since 2020. She wears what she has, but doesn’t look tacky. Except for her worn out knee highs, but she’s 93 and doesn’t care. She’s happy she can still walk.

Well I agree with everything you said except there flip flops! I'm a born and raised California girl and will always wear my flip flops! Although I don't wear the cheap ones or other ugly cheap ones! I have not found any slip on sandals that are comfortable.

The only place I saw a lot of cold shoulder look was at Covid immunization clinics. All of a sudden, they started looking like singles bars.

I swear by NYDJ -- Not Your Daughter's Jeans. Made for women with curves. Used to make them all in USA and I still seek these out in thrift stores or on ebay. But even those made abroad are still good quality with high cotton content. Highly recommend !

I am 71 years old and I worked retail for 40 years with the last 20 in my own store and I can tell you I’ve seen and bought many types of flip flop and I can assure you that some flip flops are as nice as sandals especially if you have a nice pedicure to go along with them. Too bad we can’t add photos because you would probably change your mind if you saw some of the flip flops I wear with dresses.

I wear what makes me look and feel amazing. Looking "cheap" and "frumpy" is a matter of one's opinion. I don't follow style "rules" and trends.

@cindykelly808 If you "don't follow style rules and trends", why spend time watching and commenting on videos like this? I know it's your right to do whatever you want but it seems your time could be a better spent watching videos that support your way of dressing.

This was fun and informative. I think any clothing that is too tight and does not fit well cheapens the look. Tfs

I love the mention of those crazy long fake lashes!! Those really throw me for a loop. I'm 47 and feel like they are not good on anyone but especially make those of us 40+ look silly! I also love the talk of cheap looking clothes in these days when a lot of people are buying outfits on Temu and SheIn, not me! I'm also a flip flop hater. There are so many cute sandals out there, that is exactly what I always say too.

I disagree about flip flops. That's all i wear in the summer. Mine are fairly expensive and comfortable. I'm retired. I never wore them to work.

I think she means the cheap flimsy flip flops. I love my Olukai leather flip flops and wear them in summer. Slides don't stay on my feet, nor are they flattering on my long toes. If someone is looking at my feet that closely, I've already lost them.

100% agree with everything you said (including the “if you like it, do it!” When, please, will the destroyed jeans “trend” be over???? Just so everyone knows, this started in the mid-80s-IT’s NOT FASHION/NEW/HIP/COOL!😮

Exactly!

I love a well made flip flop such as Fit Flops, Clark’s, etc. My feet are small with a bunion. The toe strap helps me keep them on as opposed to a slide that I can walk out of especially when stepping up stairs. Also they are easy to pack. Agreed they should not be worn everywhere but for home and a quick errand I love them. I do wear mostly other type of sandals out.

Classic, comfortable and clean has been my choice for the past 20 years. Dark indigo higher waist straight-leg Lee jeans fit well and are slenderizing. So many colors and prints go with it. Pairs well with a navy long-sleeve wrinkle-free button up shirt for example. Too many colors in a print are loud so I like to wear monotones or a single color with a neutral or jewel tone. Also prefer 3/4 sleeves in the summer and long sleeves other months. If wearing a skirt the A-line ones in neutral colors with a nice weight fabric is good with print tops.

Well said! In addition to that, I stopped wearing tank tops or spaghetti strap tops when I was in my mid 40s - while I still wear those during the day, I choose to cover my upper arms for formal occasions! 3/4 sleeves are my favorite as well.

I'm 35 and I agree with all your opinions, unfortunately most women don't have the confidence to be their true selves and say no to trends in their younger years. Being comfortable with being my true unique individual is one of my favorite things about growing up lol. I also would live to see a full jeans episode 😊

Super long hair extensions worn with super long stage eyelashes, and then the super long, boldly colored, and decorated nails just scream cheap. These aren't cheap to have but they just confirm the fact that you can not buy class.

My style is very different from yours (much more artsy/boho) so we don't agree on everything (The scuffs just add character to my Doc martens😊) but I did enjoy the video. Thanks

Just stumbled across your channel, WOW! Agree with every one of those. There are simply some things that look cute or even great on a teen or even a twenty something that looks cheap on us. Fashion trends often run in 20 or 30 year cycles, and I was told many years ago, if you wore it the last time it was hot, you shouldn't wear it this time. Ripped jeans was a perfect example. When I was a teen we ripped out the hems and sewed on patches, and rocked the look. We wore big platform shoes and boots in the early 70s, this time around a much more conservative version at most is appropriate.

Please keep in mind that some older women are wearing flip-flops due to medical conditions. I have a friend who broke her ankle very badly several years ago and these are the only shoes that she can wear.

I always wear flip flops Fitflops brand during summer. They are not cheap or cheap looking. Havaianas are not cheap looking either.

So true! And I have been battling planter fasciitis plus ankle tendonitis for over a year plus now a sore big toe! So I cut out the toe area of my gym shoes which looks crazy but at least I get relief. Who cares about "looks" when you're in pain? No one!

While you are asking Serena, I'll add I always chose classics for the office and dressy occasions. They always look polished, flattering and do not go out of style. There are videos about how to purchase pieces that mix, match and extend our work wardrobe. Neutrals are our friends. Monochromatic dressing can be very attractive, the same or different shades of one color. It also isn't something we see a lot, so it sets one apart from the crowd in a subtle way. We can add accessories to brighten or refresh over time. Hope you'll enjoy rebuilding your work wardrobe!

@@alli992 As a petite, I often need to have trousers hemmed to wear with lower (non stiletto) heels. Different heel heights work better with a medium pant width, neither very tapered nor very wide. Hope this helps!

Good video , I agree with mostly everything except for flip flops , I’m from Southern California and mostly everyone wears flip flops , but I say if you’re gonna wear them at least have your toes nicely manicured 😊

The trifecta of cheap jeans! You made me cackle! There is a very expensive designer in central Texas, widely known for using trashed jeans, shirts, etc, to refashion into clothing north of $500. When Boho fashions hit the scene (again 😳) last summer, they weren’t too bad. Now, it looks more like they have raided some homeless encampments and are reselling their finds. Looking cheap is not the same as low budget! Preach on!

However, according to my gal pals, grown daughters, their friends, (and the male sneaky peekies) I am the coolest MiMi ever! They all love me and my youthful, rule breaking style. I save the classy look for work. Still wear my leopard print high heel boots at work though (a law firm at that!) 😅

Excellent advice--I agree with all of it. Yes, please do a jeans-focused video. The choices are so profuse today, and I hate the skinny jeans that so many women persist on wearing. They never looked good on most bodies and they look worse now that looser is in.
