    I ended up with Hip Bursitis many years ago. A lot of "women's" exercises focus on the inner thigh, without working the outer thigh. I also was too flexible on the left side of my body. I ended up with plantar fasciitis and Bursitis on my left side. The Clam exercise, stretching, and standing on one leg helped me. I also have to wear stability shoes. I still do the exercises 14 years later.

    Hey Bobbi Sun, you're absolutely right - most women's exercises focus on the inner thigh. (Susanne Sommers and the thigh master might have something to do with that 😉 ) That unfortunately sets up many, many problems for backs, hips and knees...even into the feet. We're so happy you've improved by keeping up the right exercises!!!

    Thank you from London! My physio did actually give me exercises to strengthen my glutes but I didn't understand why. Understanding why is hugely important to motivation! Plus you provide stretches, etc. (This comment should actually have been on the hip stretch video but I was so busy doing the stretches that I ran over!)

    Finally!! a clear explanation of hip pain broken down into key areas of potential decay!!! I had a hip replacement 2 years ago and it reduced my pain, but after watching your video, I understand the complexity of the multiple causes of hip and lower back pain that could make a clear diagnosis close to impossible. I had a period of post op regret that weakened my trust in medical integrity. I had to wonder if I would have benefitted from a less invasion option. The x-rays showed bone on bone but not soft tissue degeneration. Clearly, the possibilities are so numerous and complex that a medical specialist could safely make a seemingly benign diagnosis based on his particular competency without concern for negligence. The patient could get multiple opinions and they might ALL be right, while trying to fix all of them could be unnecessary or redundant. Thanks so much for sorting out the issues. ❤

    I have Bursitis. I also need joint replacement. I have had epidural shots etc. I had ruptured disc surgery (Laminectomy) in 1993, It left me with permanent sciatica for the rest of my life. I have also had a diseconomy of my spine. I am trying to relieve my hip pain by loosing weight of course and stretches, exercise. I found swimming really has helped. I am glad these 4 reasons were finally brought to attention. I’ve been told these things multiple times from a renounced NW Surgeon team. Rest is good and weather really affects my issues. Bursitis hurts like heck.

    I have outer hip pain on both sides and pretty severe erectile dysfunction that seem to subside slightly when tilting the hips in sideways while lying on my back. So I guess there are some nerve involvement causing ED connected to my lateral hip pain. My doctor doesn't seem to take this seriously and I did an MRI years ago and it didn't reveal anything. But then the hip pain hadn't started really. It all started with lower back pain. When I asked if I could do a new MRI of my hips they won't let me. I have ME/CFS so often bed/couch bound more than most people. I often lay on the back rather than sitting up most of the awake time.

  • @epmanualphysicaltherapy

    @epmanualphysicaltherapy

    2 жыл бұрын

    Great question Melanie! The only thing an x-ray would tell you is if there is arthritis in the hip joint. Bursitis, tendonitis and IT band syndrome will not show up on an x-ray. They must be diagnosed by physical examination...and most physicians are REALLY good and knowledgeable about medications...but not doing physical examinations for this kind of thing. They barely touch their patients, because the aren't generally trained very well in that area. Seeing an expert like a manual therapist for a physical examination would be the most accurate way to diagnose the problem with certainty.

    @@epmanualphysicaltherapy I agree. Amazingly, most orthopedists know very little about muscles and tendons and tend to just guess about the cause of the pain. But they sure are very confident in their ignorant and incorrect diagnoses. They will however do an x-ray, see a bit of arthritis (which most people have, and is usually not the cause of your pain), and confidently tell you that you knee knee, hip, or back surgery.
