Rural China is not that much difference to Rural Japan by the look of it.. but many pretty villages in China are being upgraded to attract tourist on a huge scale. i'm sure this trend will speed up.. but compare Rural China to some of those Rural town in the Appalachian in Virginia or the Mississippi basin with their collapsing community and abandon smoke stack industry.. that Chinese rurality you've just showed us is heaven.. the Average American knows little about their own country let a lone about countries they are lie too.. but the China haters are loosing the Narrative very fast.. once China become the number one tourist destination.. that will be for next..

2000 RMB rent per year for a house and a plot of land? It’s so cheap, much cheaper than in Yunnan. And I think I just need another 50k to 100k RMB to do up the interior and it will a dream home. What I need now is a China permanent residence visa. I really want to retire in China.

Jerry, a quick heads-up. It appears that the exhaust pipe from your heater exits the building on a slight downward angle. That should be corrected for the good health of everyone in the house and should incline always from the heater to the outside, never level and never angled down even for short distances. Cheers from the US. Hope to meet you in China one day.

there are plenty of folks in the West who wish they can live free "off grid" (but unfortunately too far in remote areas or wilderness) without the oppressive taxes of Fascist USA Empire Private-Power Ruling-Elite Plutocracy's "meddling government IRS" and decaying dilapidated urban cities vs but here in China, one can "stay on grid" in affordable (rental) rural areas (home+mini-farmland) with easy access to nearby HSR or transport to "modern city" benefits (without needing to go too remote or going too deep into the wilderness) one could still easily opt to buy food at a neighbor or nearby market locally rather than grow it, if one isn't interested in farming at all especially, for those just wanting to retire in a peaceful quiet place that's not too busy or loud with urban or industrial noises I prefer warmer places with more deciduous trees with autumn (fall) colors but not too warm/hot or tropical (mild winters are preferred over freezing icy cold winters)

  • @SaintFluffySnow

ADD: one could afford to rent TWO rural locations to allow one to enjoy comfy mild seasons, like: northern cool regions in warmest summertime + southern warm regions in coolest wintertime no need to stay in expensive fancy hotels, except for fun during a fancy vacation once in awhile (traveling across China's diverse scenic places)

In fact, there is not much difference between China's rural areas and Japan's. The difference is that Japan's land is small, while China's can grow vegetables around its own house, and the area is large enough. Japan's rural areas are mostly wooden houses. There is basically no difference between China's rural areas in coastal provinces and Japan's, because China is so big. Therefore, the topography and environment of each place are different, and the houses built are also completely different. In addition, there are many abandoned ancient villages in China. I think the Western media would prefer to shoot there as a subject of China's collapse. Why is it abandoned? In fact, it is very simple: the old people They have all died, there is no one in the village, or they have moved collectively because the transportation is too inconvenient. The next step for China is to upgrade all rural areas. It will only be better.

Nice to see an intimate view of your life. About rural life in China, young people (just like in many other countries) want to flee that way of life and flock to the cities because of better job opportunities/wealth. I also think that rural life in China has its charme but I quite understand all the people who want to flee the harsh and poor living conditions of rural life. The BIG difference between farmers here in the Netherlands and farmers in China is that in the Netherlands farmers tend to be rich (because generational owned land/property = money) while farmers in China are relatively poor (compared to city dwellers) because they often only have small farms and do not really own the land.

  • @redbelief

What is the population of the Netherlands? Moreover, the way European countries obtain wealth is dishonorable. They are all robber countries that seek wealth through plunder! ! If the buying and selling of land is allowed, one day an evil country like Israel will seize your land and establish another country in your country, and then massacre women and children and other indigenous people without any bottom line, and plunge them into endless wars. Do you want such a result? If China allows land sales, what do you think evil countries like the United States, Europe, and Japan will do against China?

you forgot to mention, the Dutch gained their wealth from centuries of looting from all around the world. I always found it odd that europeans often forgot to mention this one important factor when comparing to other poor nations. Europeans should remind themselves how they got rich, and I am not making this up, it is 100% factual.

China is keeping rural places like this is exactly why China has no ghettos, slums...and no homeless, something you will find on every developed countries. People in urban area when they lose their jobs, or some unexpected event made their life impossible, they can always retreat to their country side homes and not ended up living on the street. You can grow your own food, water near by for free, no property tax.
