Long time watcher, first time commenting. While Kevin is an extremely skilled driver, I’m always floored as to the level of skill Brittany has at spotting. Arguably more important than the ability to pilot through obstacles like that. Hats off to that power couple. Keep em wheelin.

I like when they go out in a group and the evergood intended spotter tries to over spot Brittany's. Sometimes Kevin (depending on the level difficulty) will follow "the good intended someone" other than Brittany. Not always but usually leading to failure. Britney' is 99% spot-on. The 1% she's not Kevin is so highly-skilled he pulls off The Impossible. Brittany's always humble enough at that time to admit "don't listen to me" . As she looks in disbelief and laughing...Kevin pulled often possible once again. They are a dynamic team! Have yet to see anyone come close to their skill and ability. If you listen to and watch them closely every time they wheel you could learn quite a bit. It has helped me tremendously in my off trail Adventures. Both Kevin and Britney have taught the workaround in problematic electronics that plague JL platform. To my knowledge they were the few first to recommend only wheel while on the rocks or difficult trail in manual mode. Thanks to the electronic 8-speed, and ecu programming that should only be in a jeep Grand Cherokee or Jeep Renegade.

I’ve broken two of those ELockers in my ProRock XD60 in two years time. Like you guys already know, the new ones have issues. I threw in the towel after the second one broke and put in an ARB. Jeep is looking great BTW!

Not sure if you ever thought about OX offroad, but they are a Air locker that has a provision for if you lose your air, you can still engage your locker. Also American Made from Odessa, FL.

I'm tempted to say: "just run that e-locker until you grind it smooth!!!" but the problem is that is going to fail at the worst possible moment... The break-in runs have been nothing but spectacular great driving from Kevin, great spotting from Britt, and great Gatorade drinking from Bree!!!🤙🏼

Truly pro spotting and cooperation between driver and spotter! Great example for others. If the driver ignores the spotter, or delays, bad things can happen. You show how it should be done. I have also broken e-lockers. That and the way some unlock during directional shifts caused me to switch to ARB some time ago, using hardline brake line tubing for the air lines to address those issues. OX also makes really reliable tough lockers. Well done, and thanks for sharing.

All of our vehicles are 4wd. Last month I bought a new JLU to tow behind our Ram truck with a camper. Just for side trip adventures while camping. My wife cautioned me about upgrading the JLU to the "Lite Brite" level of adventures though. She claims it is okay to do whatever I want to our ZJ.

There’s zero room for that with full steering up front. You would have to go full hydro to fit that up front

Given the state of your build and concerns about air/electrical failure, you should look at an OX LOCKER. Internally mechanically-activated, externally you can choose between cable, air or electronic actuation. There's even an emergency plug you can use to lock and unlock the diff if your cable, air or electrical system fails.

Fairly amazing. As somebody who has never rock crawled, but has seen a lot of video of rock crawling, I saw you guys go thru some stuff, that honestly I would have thought was impossible to traverse in a vehicle. You guys made an amazing rig.

I had brake issues when I switched the Dana UD 60s they use the Ram 3500 Brakes ended up having to upgrade the booster and master cylinder to the J8 and use a scan tool for the antilock control module. everything was perfect after that. Glad to see the stepchild on the trails again!

It’s good to see the stepchild back in action!

I got a big pop from the front end several times last year in Moab when my e locker was engaged. One time I was looking out the window and I saw the drivers side tire ratchet or that’s the best way I can describe it. Didn’t look good and i immediately thought I popped a U-joint. Once I’d get to good ground I couldn’t find anything broken and the locker still works fine. No obvious signs of damage inside when I changed the diff oil. At least 10k more miles since. I bet it was skipping.

My Yukon locker would do that, the springs just were not heavy enough for 37's playing in sticky mud. I hear they have a heavier spring pack you can put in now to increase the clamping force to prevent the skipping.

Saw that ADS suspension adjuster knob cap fall at 4:45 It was run over.

It’s probably the e locker went through 3 of them before going back to an air. The Eaton just don’t seem to hold up on 40s with any kind of power. You guys are awesome keep it up. Hopefully catch you on a trail

Do an ox locker. This is a really good for y'all because it can be air or electric and if you decide to do air it is really easy to make it a permanent locker just check it out

Damn. Driving Line had 2 of these newer Eaton "Direct Acting" e-lockers break, and a few guys at KOH also had the same issue. I have one that I just installed to a 05 SD60 front to swap under my JT and it sounds like it may be a $1500 ticking time bomb. What really sucks is I bought mine over a year ago and only just now got around to installing it as I've been building these axles up for the swap. By the time it grenades, it will be brand new but already out of the 1-year-from-purchase warranty.

I missed th' Stepchild, and SO glad Y'all have her back out. Did I miss somethin? What happened to th' Juggy?

For all the money you have tied up in that thing and the access you have to custom fabrication, I'm surprised you don't buy two small extra winches. Mount them under the hood, and drop them to the front axle. This was can you not only pull down, but you can also pull only one side, so when you are way off camber, you can just pull the high side down. With that much suspension travel, you need to be able to control your side to side body roll. Independent pull downs on either side would do wonders. Maybe even do it to the rear as well.

@@LiteBrite Oh Chris... But seriously, it would take some very creative thought. Two things - one, you only need a 3k - 4k lbs winch, so a pretty small device. Secondly you only need the fairlead over the axle. The winch can mount anywhere (even under your seat). You could even run it through a couple of fairleads or eyelets if you had to. Something to just keep in the back of your mind, at some point, you'll think of a way.

I have a friend that's having problems with the Eaton E-Lockers that he just added to his rig. The story he's getting: Eaton was having some problems... Interesting trip on the Rubicon with intermittent lockers. Crazy that Eaton is having issues; they've been making these things since time began?

I’m horrible with doing nut and bolt checks and shakedown runs when I install new stuff. I haven’t done a nut and bolt check in months. I probably need to do that!

Have you thought about powerstop pads and rotors? I installed them on my wrangler and so far they've performed flawlessly and breaking distance is half if not better than what it was. Also no groaning dyring slow decent.

I had exact same issue with my elocker. Internally the teeth skipped but it stayed locked.

Long time follower, first post. My 2015 jeep (The Moneypit) is setup much like The Stepchild. I'm running UD60's and 40" Trail Grapplers, sitting under a full Metacloak 4.5" true long arm 4 link with the 6 pack shocks and a new Atlas. It's a nice riding rig but a bit of a dog with the stock powertrain. I have been very impressed with your last few videos and I was wondering where I can find a current full build of the Stepchild? Everything I've been able to find is outdated. Thank you in advance, much love from San Francisco, CA.
