Our neighbors RUN AGROUND! - Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 267

Have you ever wondered what the steps are for getting a catamaran off a reef? In this episode Brian helps our neighbors @tgt_sailing after they run aground negotiating a tricky harbor entrance. We also dig into some boat projects and fire up the new solar panels, and I cook up some super delicious banana pancakes :D
Hope you enjoy this episode of our day to day life living as a family on our boat. If you do be sure to LIKE THE VIDEO to let us know :) Sending extra virtual HUGS to everyone that subscribes to our channel.

I'm sure it's the result of all the accumulated skills of the last ten years. How to be that relaxed with the camera, but - as second nature, now, - to talk clear enough so that the sound is always good; the use of the right equipment; and yes, superb editing. For me, though, the main thing is that you're not setting up scenes to keep the viewers entertained, but just living the life and letting us share. (Or if you ARE planning events and shots, doing it so well it doesn't show!)

To be fair, there’s hundred of thousand of people that smile when they hear Brian say anything. I don’t know if that makes him our daddy or if we are just floating in his dream as he narrates it to us, but Capt Bryawnie Daddy is Delos. Not taking away from Kazaa, Nugget, Mr Brady or any of the hundreds of other crew, but they are just riding in daddy’s dream like the rest of us. So far I have been lucky too, a few scrapes and bumps, nothing a little gelcoat and or reeinforcement with glassfiber couldn´t fix! It is lovely seeing you three calmly going where the wind and the whims take you, it´s such a different life from the hustle and buzzle of being a bluecollar in a city, it gives perspective to life and the ways to live it! It was nice of you Brian to give a hand trying to free her. Good thing she didn't ground during high tide! And isn't it nice when you meet up with members of the Delos tribe unexpectedly. Especially when they bring two bottles of tasty beverage and invite you to steak dinner! : - ) Finally, it almost looks like Delos may have more electrical wire weight than weight in the keel! lol I hope you are doing well in real time. I just stumbled into your channel as I research Sailing. This video brought so many memories of my childhood when my family and I spent so many weekends in Culebra and Culebrita. Back then there were a lot less houses by the water but the views were just as magnificent. It is boating in those eastern Puerto Rico/USVI and BVI as a kid that made me go to sea as a Navy Officer and inspired me to live in New Zealand for 8 years ( I was one of 5 Puerto Ricans there, I am sure!) Now, after 37 years of power boating, we are going to switch to a lifestyle of sailing. I am nervous...scared but very excited. Your videos are helping me look forward to the possibilities. Maybe, someday, I too will leave the rat race. Thanks for sharing your stories.

yea ive done some recovery diving, not of boats more or less just big heavy trash items on the bottom but we use lift bags typically filled by a floating compressor or an aux tank brought down for filling the bags and just like that whatever your trying to remove is right off the bottom!

THought about the same - though there are zillion of auxilliary equipment you may want to carry along "just in case", would end up with a 70 ton boat

🙋,. You would recommend that you pick up a pair of BABY NAIL CLIPPERS it will be so much easier to cut her nails, and you have to be very careful that you don't cut her nails to close to the pink part of the nails.

Mike Murphy you’re the closest I’ve read to being right about the correct course of action. Even 20 litre jerrycan’s (empty) will give you twenty kilos of lifting. Fenders would be my first choice. Run a line under the hull, bucket hitch the fender and winch down under the waterline and tie off, on a grounding like that I’d start adding buoyancy between the rudders and the keels. Mostly adding buoyancy under the engine/s is the best place to start!? Always add buoyancy, as apposed to forcibly dragging, which usually results in significant damage.

You can try adding more water to the outside of the boat if you don't have a lifting bag.

Makes for good copy - "If it Bleeds, it Leads". An old newspaper term. But the truth is - getting people out of jams is really the spirit of the cruising community. Plus does make good footage, so there's that.

I know the feelimg Brian. Apperciation for locations and things you do change once you start a family. They change for me once we had childern then when we became empty nesters and then again when we became grandparents,. I thought I would miss places we've been or tings we did each time it changed. Now I Know I wouldn't change it for the world. Your baby is a cutie. Take many photos and videos. You will cherish them as you look back. This is just my view as a parent and grandparent.
