Hi Paul, for what it's worth on my zero turn I leave the plastic guards off. I know the safety police are screaming at me but I'm the only one that uses my zero turn. The reason why I do that is so after cutting the grass I use my air compressor to blow all the grass away from the spindles and keep the top of the deck pretty clean. Nothing gets caught under the guards as there are no guards. Take care, Stanley in Md.

Paul, I have the ZD326. I know it is larger, so more room to work, but with the deck down and spindle guards removed I am able to get the spring off and remove the idler pulley by removing the nut holding the support arm at the back of the deck. My idler pulley was OK but the support arm that mounts to the deck was allowing the pulley to run too low to the deck causing contact at times. We bushed it up and reinstalled. I am glad I didn't have to remove the deck as it is a 1,800 pound beast. Also, I saw your strap for holding up the chute wrapped around your deck height adjuster. I am sure you could always fabricate something, however, I decided to remove a deck bolt on the corner and installed a threaded eye bolt for the hook of the bungie. I had to order it as the thread pitch is metric but it works great and looks like a factory option. BTW, the idler pulley and support arm on the ZD326 both have grease zerks. You might check if they can be used on your ZG so they are serviceable. May have clearance differences due to the size of the deck, however. Great video as always!

a company i worked for had the diesel version of that i used a spud wrench with a pipe on the sharp end for leverage to loosen the belt only i wasn't having to repair the tensioner i had to pull the gearbox apart and replace the bevel gears they arent cheap either its actually cheaper to replace the whole gear box by the time you add up the labor to tear down and put back together all because some one didn't read the manual prior to use every one assumed it was belt driven from the motor like most lawn tractors and never checked the gearbox to make sure it had gear oil not even the service department who did service on all the company equipment

That seems just like JD mower decks with a zerk for the spindle but between two sealed bearings. For many years, the easier fix was to remove the inner seals (one on each) and grease could then flow to the bearings. Never an issue since the 80s. It looks like yours are trapped in riveted pulley assembly. More trouble than it's worth to modify that I suppose.

Your going to have to show me where Bota says to replace that seal every two years. I’ve never read that or even heard that before about any seal anywhere. I’ve got gear box’s on their snow blowers tha get much more use than this ten year mower with 78 hours on it and never an issue. Also they can be rebuilt without having to purchase a complete unit. Looking at everything I have here in OEM WSM there’s nothing that states about changing that seal out every two years.
