The more I watch this, the more I realize Jayna and I lost twins! 😂 Her outlook, her preference for cooking vs baking “because it just doesn’t work”, they way she talks about her boys and her thoughts on raising them. I am glad that you two are similar enough to do this, but different enough to make it divisive 😂

My new thing is buying two large packages of chicken breasts and marinating them in 3 different bags- one Mexican marinade, 1 Asian marinade, and 1 American marinade. The next day we grill them all up and then freeze them. Then I can take a cooked breast out and make a rice bowl, stir fry, tacos, chicken salad etc.

I heard a speaker say one time to stock your pantry in a way that if guests showed for dinner unexpectedly, you would have enough items to prepare a meal at the last minute. I’ve lived by this idea for years now and it’s actually really beneficial when I need to come up with something quick.

If you bake your whole bag of potatoes at once they make great stove top hash browns left over the next day! You can even dice the leftovers and flash freeze them and store them in a Ziploc for homemade frozen hash browns. No potatoes going bad or going to waste 🙂

Megan I sympathize with your chili story. I had the same experience. When my husband and I got married Visions Cookware (it was colored glass cookware) was all the rage and I got a set for a wedding gift. I loved it. I tried making cornbread in it just a month or two into our marriage because he loved cornbread and milk. He tried it and said “you should call my Momma and have her teach you how to make cornbread”! 😠😥 I was mad and actually hurt. I told him he could just go get his Momma to make it then. 🤨That was 31.5 years ago. I’ve still never made cornbread again. Turns out it was because she cooked hers in a cast iron skillet and it had a totally different texture than the glass bakeware. We do laugh about it now but I still don’t cook it even in a cast iron skillet.😂

I am exactly like Jayna when it comes to cooking. I just make it up as I go. I have at least 30 Cook books, they are for inspiration....looking at the pictures or change out ingredients. I hate cooking with the phone, cause my fingers are messy, the phone screen locks and I have to unlock it with my messy paws 😊 I have a summer salad that I am often asked to bring. Only a hand full of ingredients. 3 fresh beetroot, 2 crispy apples, 1 good size onion...dice all of it, add sour cream, a teaspoon of horseraddish, pepper and salt. Done. Super crunchy and refreshing salad

Quick tip if you can't use potatoes fast enough. Try canned potatoes! The texture isn't great to just heat and eat, but drying them off and frying them or rinsing them and using them in a soup/crock pot recipe is an awesome shortcut!

About cooking for children's dietary restrictions, my niece and her husband are gluten-free and my nephew is dairy-free. I made a gluten-free dairy-free banana cream pie for a family function using non-dairy milk, non-dairy whipped topping and an almond flour crust. Just as we were cutting into the pie, my nephews new girlfriend announced that she is allergic to nuts. LOL. I told them they'd get "air pie" next time.

You two are so fun to watch! Thanks for all the ideas. I can relate to Megan on measuring and cooking in a structured way. It just scares me to think what would happen if I tried to cook without my cookbooks (that I have compiled over 17 years of married life)! Hope's Table is an awesome cookbook for sure- it stays out all the time. I make the chocolate chip cookies EVERY single week because my husband (and kiddos) love them so much. The grilled mushrooms and citrus shrimp kabobs are some of our favorites as well.

My husband is a very messy cook like Jayna. However, I greatly appreciate that he enjoys cooking and does the cooking about half the time. So I happily clean up after his messes. I am a clean up as I go cook as this is how my Mom taught me. When Megan said cook until your ready to stir with your other arm - it immediately took me to my first time making arborrio rice - you keep adding in liquid & stir til it is used up then add again & on & on and your arm does get so tired but it must be constantly stirred.

There are a few things you talked about that are exactly how it is a my house! My kids say my food is disgusting when I am excited about something I made that I think is delicious. I use all the scrapers when I’m cooking. Rice is so much easier to clean up after it drys. My husband detests dirty floors. Oh, and as far as taco seasoning, I looked up a recipe for fajita seasoning and I make a bunch at once and just keep it in a jar. It’s so so much better than the store bought stuff. We could totally be friends!

I support your quart jars of soup in the fridge idea. I’ve done similarly in the past and feel that as long as it’s in the fridge, it should be good! We have a bunch of zucchini and peppers from our garden, so we’ve been stuffing our zucchini either with spinach and artichoke dip and topped with bacon or a creamy tomato sauce with sausage in it topped with cheese. The peppers are usually grilled or turned into poppers! :)

Yes I love the seasonal foods too! mom cooked out of the garden all summer and that’s how I raised my family and a meat on the grill. But now that it’s just the 2 of us it’s almost not worth getting out the grill. So I’ll do turkey salad or a couple burgers or sausages. There’s just nothing like garden goodies. Your chats are fun and Megan’s dress looked very nice this time(I know you’d talked about what you should wear for these sit downs.)

I call recipes that I make up a "stir-em-up" - my family enjoys them! I can get close to making them again, but probably a bit different! I use russet frozen potatoes so no more worrying about potatoes gone bad, nor having to peel/boil, etc. We use them straight from the bag and put on butter, sour cream, bacon bits, etc. and it's yummy and easy! (we still like baked potatoes though) These frozen potatoes are great for potato soup!! We grill alot too in the summer! So good and it doesn't heat up the house!! Enjoy your show - God bless you and yours!

I was reminded of 2 funny things during this video....my Mennonite friend made Reese's Pieces Squares for a youth event with several other churches, a young man loved them, found out who made them, and married her eventually! We always joke that he loved her for her baking skills first 😅. The other thing was when Jayna said her kids are hard on her cooking, my brother sat down when we were kids one night, looked at the meal, and asked, "What is this material?" 😂 My poor mom 🤪

Baked Potato Casserole I suppose I developed this recipe, though I’m sure someone else has thought of it sometime somewhere - a baked potato bar in casserole form. 4-6 baking potatoes, skin on - washed and cubed Lawry’s seasoned salt Ranch dressing and/or sour cream 1 lb. browned & seasoned ground beef or prepared steak tips Taco seasoning (if using ground beef) or A1 sauce (if using steak) kidney beans (if using ground beef; opt.) 1 onion (diced and browned with beef or layer raw; personal preference) ½ - 2 c. steamed broccoli - fresh or frozen, to taste ½ - 1 c. freshly grated* mild or medium cheddar cheese - to taste Whatever else you would put on a baked potato (butter, salsa, chives, etc.) Parboil potatoes until nearly soft - do not overcook. Drain and toss with seasoned salt (approx. 1 tsp. - I just “eyeball it”). Alternatively, could roast potatoes for that baked potato flavor instead of boiling, if time allows. If you do roast, butter and season potatoes before roasting. For this dish, I would go ahead and cube them before roasting. Spread prepared potatoes in a greased casserole dish and drizzle with ranch dressing mixed with sour cream, ranch dressing alone, or sour cream only. If you have chip dip that needs to be used up, now is your chance. This is a completely versatile recipe - make to suit your preferences. Layer prepared taco seasoned browned beef or prepared steak tips. Can drizzle A1 sauce if using steak. If using salsa, add that now or with the ranch. Layer prepared broccoli and cheese. (*Did you know that freshly grated cheese melts better than pre-shredded from the store? Yup, the pre-grated stuff basically has sawdust on it to keep from clumping - ingredient “cellulose”.) Could garnish with chives. To me, the appeal of this method is better mixing of the flavors than actual baked potatoes and less fuss at the onset of the meal.

Great idea to make whipped cream and then freeze it! I don’t care for taco seasoning either. I’ve concluded it’s either some filler ingredient or the chili powder in it that I don’t like. When I make taco meat I add onion and garlic powder, cumin, and just a little tomato sauce and it’s way better! Wow you make me feel better about my twice a week grocery trips😂

It’s nice to know that the way I do things in the kitchen is not all that dissimilar to you gals. I’m like you Megan, I much prefer to do my own grocery shopping. I don’t think it takes any longer to go in person than it does to prepare the online order. I print out the recipes online when I want to try something new. If I like the recipe that gets added to my recipe folder of tried and tested favourites. I’ve also played around with my the day that I shop. It used to be a Saturday morning then I switched it to a Friday and then a Thursday and now a Wednesday. Midweek seems to be working well where I have more energy than later on in the week and the supermarket seems to be a lot less busy.

My children loved it! So easy and I usually have some leftovers for lunches. Another quick meal is tuna casserole. I use 2 cans of tuna, 1 can of Cream of Celery soup, one half can of milk, half bag of sharp shredded cheese ( large) and egg noodles. I top it with the remainder half bag of the shredded cheese. I bake it at 350 until the cheese is melted on top. Everyone loves it. Some people also put peas in it. I usually have broccoli and butter bread with it. Easy clean up.

I make it with equal parts coconut oil and olive oil then add as much sugar you want to the consistency desired. I started rubbing down my legs ESPECIALLY before shaving and it has changed my skin. And the ingredients are things I always have in my pantry. I usually add lavender essential oil or whatever I'm feeling at the moment.

For taco salad, instead of taco meat, we love to put on bbq chicken. I just shred chicken breast, and then mix in ranch & sweet baby rays bbq sauce. So yummy!!

I never did a pasta bar because I like to toss the sauce with the pasta so it is combined and isn’t dry in spots like just sauce on pasta. So I like the idea of then baking it. I think it would be a fun video for you to film!

Megan, my family never has added taco seasoning when we have tacos and taco salad. So just put aside some plain cooked hamburger before you add the seasoning to the rest. Then you can enjoy the tacos and taco salad!!!

In the summer I also usually have a meat grilled or a sandwich and a vegetable and fresh fruit as our dessert. I have always been a clean as you go since I was learning to cook in home ec. I cannot cook in a cluttered kitchen with dishes piled in the sink. I was taught if you clean as you go the less clean up at the end.

Potato loving family here we go through 40 to 50 pounds a month. I don't buy frozen potato's like fries or hashbrown I make them. If I make a meal like mash potato or country potato's I find 12 potato's feeds my family and don't forget potato pancakes. We are a once a month shoppers.

Megan…try seasoning your meat on taco night with what you would like. Keep it simple. No taco seasoning!! I do this frequently and I’m able to use leftover meat for something else the next night and it’s not an overwhelming flavor for tacos/nachos. We add our favorite salsa for the extra “flavor”

Hi there, love this channel, I'm from Bolivia, and i think Bolivia is good with rice, almost every dish you order there will be rice with it 😂 my recipe for fried rice is, fry 1 cup rice with some pork lard and onion until brown, then add 2 cups water, 1 tsp salt, and boil until almost done, then add 1 medium shredded carrot, let it stand for som time. Serve

Oh my goodness girls,Spam Hawaiian? This was very much a item in the war day's and when I was a girl in the 60's it was very much a poor person's meal. I absolutely hated it as did most children of the day, so hearing so many of you loving it sounds hilarious. I live in Australia, and my father-in-law ate a lot of spam as did my husband, who grew up in the outback of Australia. As for cold meat, my mother always bought a meat called Devon. It was a processed large sausage sliced finely at the deli at the store. I absolutely can't stand it now. We eat ham at home for cold meat mostly. Keep up with your channel it's so interesting to hear the differences you have over there.😊

I'm a housewife, no kids yet. I tidy the kitchen before I cook. Always. Then I get out everything I *should* need, spices, etc. and I don't follow a recipe, I just wing it😅. I always clean up as I go, unless stopping to wash something is gonna let the food burn 😅 - Grama taught me that. In my opinion, it's a bit demoralizing to finish cooking and then have to face a disaster of a kitchen. Then I clean up the pans/ dishes right afterwards, unless something needs to be soaked first. 🙃
