Thanks for the shout-out of my thrift shop! I really enjoyed our thrifting day!!🥰
Tip: I’ve baked homemade bread for 50 years. Milled wheat berries in a flour mill. Your dough was wet because the wheat flour wasn’t finely ground. So when you try this again. Either have a friend with a flour mill fine grind wheat flour for you or buy it already ground. And knead the dough long until smooth elastic. Let raise. Punch down. Let raise again. Punch down. Shape. Raise again to nearly double. Bake. Remove to rack to cool. For your first attempt. You did good.

I want to start baking my own bread as well , question, do you think a bread machine kneads the dough just as good?

Needs more flour, shouldn’t be sticky at all
Instead of turning the oven on, you can just turn the oven light on and put your rising dough in the oven! It keeps it warm (but not hot) without using as much energy!

That's smart! I've heard of that with yogurt!
Made me feel better about myself knowing such a beautiful put together woman gets zits too, that it’s not just me. Made me relate to her better that she’s normal & real. That’s why I love her channel she’s real. ☺️She don’t hide the real life stuff 👏👏
So because of your videos I have bought those round ice cube trays and glass straws and my teenage daughter has declared them both "life changing"! Lol! Thanks for all your great videos!
About the note about your skin. We are the same age, similar lifestyle, same season, also in the PA winter weather and I am also struggling off and on with the same issue. Thank you for being real. You are an encouragement to me to remember that the Lord and my family matters and those things just are what they are. 💕
Seriously Miller’s eyelashes are to die for. They just go on forever.

I know, right! They don't even look real.
If you have a kitchenaid mixer, you can get a wheat grinder for that. I use hard red wheat for my sourdough. But I also only do about 30% of the fresh ground wheat- I do the rest of the flour in there as just organic bread flour. The great thing about wheat berries is they store easily for a long time, like 10 years!
Loved this vlog! Thank you for putting it together.
Love the idea about the wedding episode! I'm on the hunt for elegant but modest wedding dresses, and some tips for a budget-friendly wedding might be fun to glean!
Love seeing Yvonnie helping you!
Loved the vlog. I always look forward to your vlogs. They are so wholesome and refreshing.
You are such a good mom! And definitely my favorite KZreadr! Thank you for your videos!
Love that you showed this bread making experience with us 😊
I find your videos so uplifting and inspiring! Thank you
The honey is to activate the yeast with the warm water. I love making challah bread
Well done on your new intro (logo), it looks really good!!
Your videos are a real highlight in my week-thank you for such uplifting content. And just a comment, but even the thrift stores look cozy in Lancaster County! ❤️
I just totally love your videos and I love the long videos I know you probably don't care for them too much but I just love them and I love the fact that it is a real-life video and it's nice to see that you are normal just like the rest of us LOL... I totally look forward to all your videos
Your content is a bright spot in my week :) always brings a smile ❤
About thrifting...My feelings are similar to yours. I've decluttered a lot. Now, I have to really like/want/or have a use for something before I buy it. If I have the feeling that I'll soon be sticking it into the box for the consignment shop, I leave it! I have enough stress in my life w/o adding more! Yes, the fun is in the hunt!😊
Your videos are so refreshing and inspiring!! I always am looking forward to seeing them! Hey.. don't worry about how your skin looks you are amazing just as you are
Great video thanx for taking us along the bread looks great
Y'all's kids are so precious. They have the prettiest eyes. Really enjoyed this video, see ya next time 🙏😍🤟
Enjoy your break away and catching up with friends.
I did that book study a couple years ago and loved it!
Absolutely love your videos! Look forward to them every week! I love my hot baths, and bubble baths in the winter! Relaxing, and calming for me, as a wind down in the late evenings! Have an awesome time in Florida with your family! Safe travels, and prayers! Much love from East Tennessee! 🥰💕
Love how Evonne loves helping in the kitchen. What great Mother Daughter time. Of course Miller, singing was so cute. Living on a farm with our children years ago was one of the best times of their growing up years. Love these weeks in your life videos.
Such a busy week! Personally, your bread looked amazing, so rustic & rich! Enjoy your trip! 🥰
I look forward to your video every week! I watch while I work from home. You can use those Mennonite recipes with the crisco, I just swap it out for the same amount of butter. Keep going with your bread making, it’s all about getting to know how the dough should feel 😊 you got this ! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That baby is the cutest thing ever! He so reminds me of my 3 boys when they were little. Great vlog! Would love a video of all you coffee recipes in one!
Ooohhhh, new intro card, very nice!
We also went to the Farm Show! Try to get up there every year! It was busy but so fun!!!

Love your channel! You are so talented with your editing! ❤
Thanks for sharing! My children & I enjoy watching your video's!
I really enjoyed this one for whatever reason - appreciated the realness of it all, I think. I've noticed worse breakouts on my chin with our babies at this age where they touch your face with their grimy little hands. I'm so convinced about that lol The farm show looked like so much fun, I wish we could've made it this year, hopefully soon. I would think it was so neat if we were to run into you there. 😄
Another perfect vlog. You are so inspirational x x x 😘
Thank you I love you guys!!!
I love watching your children so much! As a young mother I was so busy …but it is fun to watch & remember those days! Have fun in FL
I did that Bible study a few years ago! It was so good. ❤️
I have been grinning my own flour for over a year and I make everything with that flour. We love it. It definitely was a learning curve but it was totally worth it.
I wish we would’ve seen you at the farm show but we went on a Saturday morning-last day. Love your videos! Thank you for being a positive Christian role model on this platform!
Lynette sent me over!! Love your channel!! I’m Lyn from just north of Nashville TN!!
That is an awesome book!!! Love it love it love it!!! Be Blessed
I have a delicious and super easy bread recipe. I substitute half the flour for whole wheat flour and add pumpkin seeds, poppy seeds, Italian seasoning, sunflower seeds - whatever I’m in the mood for. It’s also a super wet dough, it would be impossible to knead 😅 you just stir it up and let it rise and then it gets baked in a Dutch oven. Best bread recipe I’ve ever tried. Just wanted to share that so anyone who ends up with a wet dough doesn’t lose hope hahaha. It can still turn out amazing
We read that book for our ladies book club at church and we all loved it! ☺️
Love the new intro!
Love my showers 🚿. Thank you for a positive and Jesus based channel. 🙏🙏🙏
Wow, what a busy week. You really inspire this grandma. I thought your bread looked delicious, I love bread! A group of us have just started to read Becoming A Titus Two Woman by Martha Peace. Looking forward to it. God bless you and your precious family! 😀❤️
I got the gym from 9-11pm because of my work schedule. I shower there because the hot water runs forever and it right in front of the sauna room. I love it during winter.
I do sourdough bread. It's great. So fluffy!
I really enjoy your videos! Thank you for sharing your life with us. I wanted to say that we love our Mockmill! It’s well worth the money. I think it would go really well with your aesthetic, too. 😉 Also, a mix of prairie gold (hard red spring wheat) or soft white wheat flour and bronze chief (hard red winter wheat) flour work well to make the bread less dense.
Dear Megan thank you for the beautiful video and all your great ideas God bless you and your families and friends🙏🥰
Vonnie is such a great offsides. Love your videos. Greetings from Australia
I learned how to make bread as a young teenager. That bread needed more flour and you need to knead it with your hands until its very elastic or stretchy. About 15 min probably. Then let it rise until double then put in loaf pan then let rise again then bake it. Also put a teaspoon of the honey into the yeast water. The yeast should rise and be all bubbly. Hope this helps. 😁

Loved this video! I found it very interesting to watch! Hope you keep trying with the bread! Like you said, it’s always edible:) I’ve baked quite a bit of bread, but I use pre-ground whole wheat flour. I’ve heard fresh ground flour measures differently because it’s all fluffed up.
I listen to a 1 minute scripture study that includes a scripture and an example from life now and 3-5 key words for the day. We're on the New Testament, and it's amazing how much just that 1 minute can bless my life in so many ways. 😀
Miller's lashes!! So cute
Love these longer vlogs! Your kiddos are cute, and good luck with your bread baking journey, its very satisfying once you figure it out:) 33:53 be careful with your form, that's a really good way to hurt yourself and strain some muscles..
My family grew up going to that same Farm show! We loved going to the rodeo, and eating their cheese curds, maple cotton candy, milkshakes, and blooming onions!😊
When I grind oatmeal for recipes, I use a small coffee grinder. It only does small batches at a time (about 1/2 cup) but it is a small and cheap appliance I can put in the back of the cupboard.
LOVE the Pa. Farm Show although I haven't been there in years. I also need to make more time for thrifting...
You could also use organic palm fruit shortening as well or lard
I’m reading the same book!!
I hope you see this because you are my favorite channel !! You inspiring me truly ❤ btw where is your maroon dress from ? I need one !!
We live in Ohio and just returned home from Sarasota, Fl yesterday. It was lovely. Enjoy that warm weather.
I haven’t been at Pa farm show in probably 20 years and it’s still the same ! Thanks gave me so many home vibes 😊I grew up and lived an hour north of Harrisburg (lewisburg area ) for forty + years before moving to Mo . Yep Pa is still home to me ❤I would think butter would work as well as shortening, it’s to make the bread soft , and the honey or sugar helps the yeast work .I think the flour would soak more liquid if the berries were ground finer then you need to knead it until the gluten develops, you should be able to stretch it until you can see through it ( window pane test ) Now I’m anxious to try to grind berries , I bake two loaves of sourdough every week for our family of three and my daughters young family . Nothing like homemade bread !
I started making bread and then sourdough bread this past summer. Believe me the bread journey is long! I made a few pretty meh yeast breads and then a lot of bad sourdoughs until they look like “real” bread, so just stick with it and it will be great!

We went to the PA farm show too! ☺️
I loved watching your video. I just found you but it made me miss my home town I am originally from Pennsylvania.
It's been my experience that home-ground whole wheat generally needs longer rise times. (Moisture for 1st rise was fine...whole wheat will absorb more moisture.) Then it needs more flour and kneading (til elastic) before its baked (I usually do a 2nd rise in pan as well). Plus, a slit on top of loaf with sharp knife tip before baking will help let loaf expand more in oven. Best wishes on 2nd try!
Thank you so much for sharing.🥰 I just really love your Videos. Wishing you God's Blessings, All the best to you all! Thanks for this Video. 🤩
If you own a More with Less cook book, try their oatmeal bread recipe. It’s my new go to bread recipe because it’s very forgiving, pretty easy, and doesn’t call for Crisco.
Your bread looks delicious and so does the cookies
Greetings from kamloops BC Canada...have enjoyed your video's for quite awhile....Your bread looked good... i like a rustic home baked bread, good job 👍 I look forward each week after work to your video's ...Thank you for all the work and effort that you put into each one...and your kiddos are all growing so much ....good job to you and Josh for all you do with your family , God's richest blessing to you all 💕
I’ve read “Having Mary Heart..martha World”, and just loved it. You’ve inspired me to go back and study it again😇
Great video thanks for sharing . My Miller’s eye lashes. Evonnie is getting older beautifully. Fletcher is just a little man. 👍🏻
You certainly fit a lot into a week! Your loaf looked good and tasty and grinding your own flour makes it more nutritious because the berries contain wheatgerm which is removed from commercial flour. I would only grind as much as I'm intending to use as the wheatgerm makes it go rancid quite quickly. Kneading to develop the gluten would make the bread lighter but it takes up time and you're already so busy!. You could add much less yeast and allow it to rise overnight which would allow a long time fot the gluten to develop by itself. You could also get a mixer with dough hooks to knead for you, it just depends how much bread making you think you'll do in the future. I agree with your friends that showering is a chore and I much prefer baths!
Thanks for sharing the bread experience, I could almost taste it with you 😅. Maybe sifting the flour would help? I think that's what I would've done, I just use a big fine mesh strainer & it gets out all those bits 🤗

Good idea!
Megan, this was a great video! I wonder if you’ve adapted your bread recipe since, but I was thinking your bread may have needed to rise a bit more after shaping. The honey is also helpful to allow the yeast to do its job and rise. You find that more with whole wheat recipes. ❤ I’m glad it tasted great anyway! Bread is very forgiving that way 🥰
@darraenfinger3782
Жыл бұрын
Perhaps because the whole wheat flour was not as fine as the commercial stuff it didn't absorb the liquids as assumed in the recipe. No problem. Kneed longer with white flour. And rise a little longer. 🙂

So I guess I should have added the honey into the warm water with the yeast?? I shouldn't have picked this recipe since it was super nondescript. I liked the ingredients though!

@@MeganFoxUnlocked The ingredients were so great! 🤗 I like an easy yeast recipe!
Freshly milled flour takes a while to absorb the liquid. Your doing a great job!!Freeze your left over freshly ground wheat berries bc they will sour if not put in the freezer from all the natural oils on wheat berries. Can’t beat the nutrition from homemade bread with freshly milled flour! God made wheat berries with so much nutrition that we can only get from them. It’s pretty neat!!
That is your thrift store?!?! 😍
I remember from Our Tribe of Many's channel that they had more success with recipes specifically for freshly ground flour.
This is Susanna's Mom :) not sure how to send this in my name. Usually you present with a lot of confidence, but there was a cute sweetness about how you presented your uncertainty about your bread! :)
You’re so sweet. Really enjoy your vlogs.
Don’t be scared to add more flour if your dough is sticky. Weather makes a difference with how much flour is needed, some days more and some days less . Also your dough needs to rise again after it’s put in your bread pan. Why do cooks think we know how to do it? 🤩 recipes need detailed instructions! I purchased a used mill and it’s been fun learning to make bread. Fresh ground berries smell so so good!
I didn't know Josh does your tech/filming stuff! I didn't know he knows how to do that!
We only learn by trying things so I'm glad you didn't chuck the dough away 👍
O my goodness!! The fabric shop you went to that was printing fabric is actually my cousin and her husband ☺️
Hey! An electric coffee grinder works great!
Wow Megan, that was fun to watch! So many things. I loved the thrifting. I live in Boise Idaho and I'm not sure if we have any thrift stores that look remotely like yours! The ones I've seen are kind of junky lol. I always want to drink an iced coffee with you - you are a first-class barista! Also, I think you should remake your bread but vary your technique a bit. IMHO you should knead the bread immediately after stirring the ingredients together, before the first rise. Do you have a Kitchen Air or other electric mixer? If so use the bread hook and knead it for about 5-7 minutes or until it begins to look slightly elastic. (if no electric mixer, roll up those sleeves girl!) Then melt a bit of your coconut oil in a clean glass bowl, cover your bread with that oil, and leave in the same spot to rise with the towel over it. Once it has at least doubled in size, maybe 1 1/2 hrs., punch it down, form it into a loaf like you did, but then let it rise again until it has formed into a more "loaf" shape. Bake from that point. Oh and if you can, grind your flour with a machine made for that or just buy it ready-ground. Can't wait to see your next beautiful loaf! Blessings to you and your lovely family.

or at least a little honey- it feeds the yeast and makes it nice and active and bubbly
Cute rainbow sweater! Looks so cozy 😊
Look up Jovial's dry sourdough starter method on The Elliott Homestead blog or youtube. It saves you all that "babying". My starter sits in my cheese drawer in the fridge and it's been there for a few months since the last time I made sourdough tortillas. You pinch off some, reconstitute it to make the bubbly starter as you need it for recipes. It takes planning of course but you are not wasting any starter or having to feed it at all. ;) That is exhausting!
FYI : there is a “Grain Mill Attachment” for your KitchenAid mixer.
Just love your music
I read that book in my bible study. Before we started, I thought the ‘Martha’ comparison was Martha Stewart!! 😂 Maybe not far off! Enjoy the book, it was awesome!
