@@RAZZM4T4ZZ same! He may have difficulty hitting some high notes but he is amazing at hitting those low notes and his acting 😍 I love him as Judas, he show so much love for Jesus and I honestly love how during the arrest he never looks Jesus in the eye after he kisses him, when the other apostles start waking up and start singing” What’s the buzz tell me what’s a happening” Judas just kind of falls into Jesus’s arms and cry’s because of the guilt and my heartbreaks when the guards pull them away from each other and Jesus reaches out to Judas, they have such great chemistry between each other especially in that scene

My favorites are definitely Carl Anderson, Fred Johanson and Josh Young. Just the right amount of fury, tragedy and excellent vocals without any overacting. Side note: Anderson's maintenance of his voice despite being older is absolutely wonderful. Man had brilliant technique.

If you haven’t already, watch Carl Anderson’s 2003 Heaven on Their Minds performance, which was just months before he sadly passed from leukemia. It genuinely rivals his original 72 version, dare I say it’s better. I’ve never seen a vocalist stay just as good and maybe get better that many years later

I have such a love for Zubin Varla’s interpretation, especially this section. He’s angry, sure, but he still maintains his voice without going too hard-which is a bit too easy to do as Judas/Jesus in this show.

  • @TheAmyBryans

Murray Head (Original Judas) might not be as vocally impressive as others- but his original interpretation of the role and vocal choices influenced everyone to come, especially Carl Anderson. He’s an amazing character actor and we would not have any of these amazing Judas performances as we know the role to be without his tortured approach. ❤️

4:18 Carl Anderson kinda looks like: "Okay, all this pushing is extremely unnecessary for my taste, but, it's on the revival script, so Imma just push Jesus a lil' bit" lol. Compared to Jerome's version of "The Push" at 3:57, C. Anderson's look kinda tame, but that's because he is an old school judas, and back then it was more of a psychological fight than a flat out AGGRESSION XD.

Carl Anderson, Jerome Pradon sing while still managing to take advantage of the hard consonants and high trills to express the fury of the moment. I notice most tend to err more toward trying to sing pretty or playing the emotion so much they don't sing well at all. Also shoutout to Peter Johansen, Tim Minchin, and Ricardo Afonso.

I really love that version with Serkan Kaya from the 2008 Vienna concert, because that's Drew Sarich (from the previous clip) playing Jesus, and during the moment right before this he goes up to Judas, puts his hand over his heart, and bends down and kisses his feet. I don't think Serkan knew he was going to do that because his reaction seems really emotional and genuine, and I burst into tears the first time I saw it. Unfortunately the bootleg isn't very good quality, but they released an album of the recording which is quite good.

Drew Sarich does a great job and is an amazing Judas, but Carl Anderson is the only performer whose vocals are so powerful he can just channel the raw emotions of the scene and let the performance follow without his voice sounding strained and thin on those difficult high notes.

9:13 I don't know why, but that german version really looked like a version of the Passion Of Christ, only played on a stereotypical anime japanese school. So interesting...
