You're not bias, I've heard many different casts and the Aussie cast is actually the best... I mean, I am a Kiwi and I LOVE John Farnham but still, when it came out, this was something else entirely.

I'm going to advocate for another Aussie Judas and it's not John English, it's Tim Minchin - I first saw JCSS in the 70's with John English, Trevor White and Michelle Fawndon as Mary Magdalene and I was spellbound, I've seen every version since and NEVER has anyone portrayed Judas as well as Tim Minchin did - sorry but this guy sucks in comparison sorry! 🤷🏼‍♀️

The musical arrangement that was used for this Australian/NZ tour is my favourite version of the show in any of its many many incarnations. It put the “rock” into rock opera in a way that the Broadway/West End version of the orchestration that was implemented in the early 2000s just doesn’t. Thank you so much for putting this online. This concert tour was such a huge deal in Australia when it happened. Watching it as an adult (I was 11 when I saw it, my parents took me to all the big musicals that came to Adelaide, from Wizard of Oz to this) is a lot of fun. And LOLOL the costumes are so so 90s.

Thanks for uploading. I couldn't believe my luck in finding this and how good the quality is. I saw this live all those years ago and it was amazing. There is a cd (with a purple cover) - and at least one copy on eBay now (not mine - I wouldn't part with it). It's a studio version and while 99 times out of 100 I prefer a live recording perhaps listening to the cd over 20+ years has left me with a preference over this video. Re other comments, I don't agree on John Farnham. He gave a very powerful performance and had the balance of light and shade, sensitivity and power. Regarding the drummer - I didn't know it was Virgil donati- for all those years I was sure it was Angus Burchill. Great video - thanks.

When the original came out i was 7-8 years old and now every time i hear "Superstar" i sing the song we all sang as kids in the school yard: "Jesus Christ Superstar Burnin' down the corner in a motorcar. "Cops come up, we don't care, we got bullet proof underwear". Aahh good times as a kids. Yah can never get it back.

Honestly, one of my favourite things about this production is that Farnham never sings the famous high note that too many productions view as a compulsory requirement when casting the role. There’s a KZread video compilation of various different singers hitting that G5 in Gethsemane that asks “who sang it best”, and most of them approach it as a gymnastic feat they must pull off in order to be considered worthy of the role, rather than as an organic extension of the emotional state of the character. You can feel the panic rising in them as they near that part of the song. By contrast, this production wasn’t afraid to modify the score to suit the performer’s strengths, and it’s better for it.

Jon Stevens was brilliantly cast as Judas in this production but as I’ve always had “a thing” for Kate, it was Kate Ceberano who forever has my undivided attention throughout this show ❤️😍😍😍❤️

@@BettyMareeHOHCountry ... I don’t know who else could’ve played Judas as well as Jon did at the time but yes, I am old enough to remember Jon English as the original Judas & if I recall correctly.... Marcia Hines played Mary & Trevor White played Jesus??? I hope I’m right. I was a huge Noiseworks fan at the time so seeing Jon play Judas in this production was a bonus (besides seeing Kate ❤️😍❤️). I saw the show 11 times & the theatre version a further 6 (with Deni Hines playing Mary).
