About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

I honestly didn't know how you were going to pull it all together when I started watching your channel over a year ago. The 400 Suite was a catch-all for your construction projects. An amazing amount of random stuff. There was literally dirt under the floorboards, the practice I still don't understand, and rotten windows and paneling. The end result is amazing! You've brought the chateau back to its glory days, probably even better than what it was. Much respect for all of you.

Suggestion: consider adding a small brace/back plate on the backside of the luggage rack. Without some form of protection, suitcases will brush up against your lovely paneling and you will be continuously touching up the wall behind the luggage rack.

I agree. Pottery Barn has wonderful battery operated, timer candles. I believe they have wax on the outside of the candle. If not they sure do feel like it. Set the timer and beautiful candles that flicker every night.

It’s a little late now as I see someone repaired the pipe leaks for you. I highly recommend putting water shut off valves to all your fixtures. This way you can shut off the water to that one thing for repairs without having to shut off water to everything. I didn’t see any shut off valves to the toilet, tub, sink, etc. The same would be true for all the heating radiators. If your radiators are daisy chained, you might need bypass valves. These changes will save you time and headaches in the future. As you remodel, it should be all about making it easy for you to upkeep the place and deal with repairs. My wife and I are loving your videos. Keep up the hard work. ❤

I'm stunned at the beauty and attention to detail in your amazing renovation, but like more than one or two commentators, I've worked in hospitality, and you would be amazed at how much theft and/or careless disregard for property some guests will display. If it would break your heart to lose, for example, a cup and saucer from theft or even accidental damage, please put them in a display case and use something pretty but replaceable.

They only have two guest suites and are promoting a luxury experience, so if any items go walkies it'll be pretty obvious who did it. Given the rooms will likely be prioritised for patrons, who I can't see trying that sort of thing, or people with a genuine respect and affection for the chateau and owners, hopefully it'll not come to that. But then again, as the saying goes, there's nowt as queer as folk 😁

Your attention to the smallest of details is what separates your work from many others' work. I can just imagine myself checking in to that suite and becoming giddy over every little thing: from the beautiful teacups and silver spoons, to the fact that the TV has a frame around it, to the hairdryer sitting on a perfectly-lined tray. What a dream of a suite you have created! So looking forward to the "before and after" video! Also, as many others have already said, the leaks are a disheartening find, but better to locate them now than later once guests are in the rooms.

My mother and father had holiday cottages in Cornwall that they used to rent out, and it was horrifying how often the visitors used to steal hangers, dressing gowns, ornaments, bedding, china, cutlery and once my mother caught a doctor attempting to walk off with a microwave - and he had the gall to carry on as if she was being unreasonable by objecting and insisting he gave it back. He even complained about her attitude to the company she used to get the bookings through! Basically, no matter how well off your visitors are, do NOT put anything into the flats that you would be sad to lose or have damaged.

Here is a tip you may want to adopt. . . .put felt tabs (pads) on the back ends of the luggage rack (the part that leans on the wall) so when you fold them up, they will not scratch the paint.

What you are doing with your chateau is just short of miraculous. Having been in the hotel business for several decades (yes, I am that old) I would caution you to think about all those shall artifacts you cherish. It is inevitable a guest or two will want to take a souvenir from the chateau to remember their magical visit. I foresee your Titanic dinnerware will be highly desirable… save all your priceless artifacts to be used as props for your chateau’s photoshoot…❤❤❤

Everything is elegant, the cups are gorgeous, the pots are beautiful but the coffee is in a regular little jar. "Theyve done All That since the last time I watched?!" You've got the house, the stairway, the rooms, your own living spaces, the floors, and paneling, electrics, plumbing, exterior cleaning, windows, driveway, gates, garden, landscaping, raising money for the school!! Absolutely remarkable. You must all be very proud. I know you've still got a ways to go with plenty more to work on, but what an accomplishment! I would suggest a utility closet for cleaning supplies, broom, linins, duster, and a sink for washing the dishes so that you don't have to carry all those things to different floors. I might also suggest that you take all the plumbing projects up to the point of connecting then call a plumber for the final connect. That way they can do a pressure test for security.

What got me addicted to the show was initially the mother going about doing all these jobs, I would hire her anytime if I were a contractor. Love your courage MUM. Then there was this solid union and ''unavision'' of Terry and Ash, the dream. One would complement the other so well. Other people and elements competed the picture for me. I'll let you ''crack on '' for now.

Terry I noticed in the drinks cupboard that there's no napkins, they would be a very handy addition for your guests, even if they are luxury paper ones in case there's an oops and they need a fast remedy. Take heart young man you will soon have every one under your spell of enchantment in this suite. 🤗❤️🌈🙏🕊️

I would add a small sponge and hand towel (or similar) to those cupboards with your fridge/tea making etc. Guests will appreciate the effort you have gone to and so if there are any crumbs/drips etc. most will automatically clean up after themselves to keep everything neat and tidy. Even paper napkins for sticky fingers could be handy. Great effort!

The suite looks incredible beautiful and cozy. Some guest may not appreciate the hard work that went into it and be a bit rough on the room. Would it make sense to put some plexiglass behind the luggage stand? I know it looks ugly but the walls will get scratched fast. The Titanic cups and plates are beautiful. Can you live with the fact that guests may break them? Do you have enough of them, in case guests want additional plates and cups? You may want to use something less valuable and keep the plates and cups in your apartment. I’ve worked at a hotel and some guests make you shake your head.

Oh I definitely think you will top the 400 suite, each build and it is definitely a build some more than others, by far, will be the best. Each of the renovations, you’ve all put the brains and bodies behind, has been better and more balanced and beautiful than the one before. Rome wasn’t built in a day and the Château is being painstakingly catered to one wall, ceiling, lighting, bathroom etc at a time. You guys are the dream team, well one of lol, don’t let the leak deter your progress. You’re doing fantastic. Dream on and keep on , but rest when needed. ❤😉👏💋🥰

It’s going to be very very hard to top the 400 suite Terry. When you were showing us around and opened the door to enter the hallway my breath was taken away. It was like stepping back in time to a romantic era that only the extremely wealthy could enjoy. Everything came together from the coatrack, to the painting, to the mirror and the dresser. I don’t know how you do it but you pull everything together and your vision always amazes us 💗

Stay positive and keep it going!! xxoo

The 400 Suite is *so* beautiful! And, Terry has decorated it with such carefully curated items. I love the bathroom the most, however, as it has timeless elegance, that dreamy bathtub, and the view❣ ( The only things I see missing are trash cans in the bedroom and bathroom. I'm sure Terry's got that beautifully on order!) Thank you for the tour, as most of us will never be able to get there. How wonderful is it that we have things like your channel to bring us the joys of a different country and, for many of us, to live our castle/chateau dreams?

The suite is magnificent. Just a suggestion, you both should spend a night in the suite and use it as though you are a guest. You will find some tweaks to make. Once you have done that, have one of your chateau couples come and stay a night or two and get their feedback. It will be much better to iron a few minor wrinkles with yourselves and friends providing hints to improve their stay rather than have paying guests providing negative feedback, not that I think they would but dummy runs always provide ways to streamline or ways their stay can be enhanced. I am seriously in awe of what you have achieved in the suite and having learnt so much the 401 suite, I have no doubt, is going to be even better. How you top the 401 suite by the ground floor reception rooms and kitchen will be a joy and a marvel to watch. Terry your visions for the chateau are superb, a lot of work, but superb. I’m so glad you have recorded it all but once it’s all over, you should write a book on how to restore an old building, how to recover from speedhumps along the way and photos on how to do the finer details. It would be invaluable to many people in the future who plan to restore, not renovate, chateaux, castles, manors etc, not just in France but world wide. There’s much you have done that could be transferred, for example, to restorers undertaking a mansion in the US for example. Just something for you consider in your spare time after you have finished in the chateau! 😀 Best wishes to you all as always from Neil in Australia 🇦🇺
