About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

It is amazing amount of work you have done with a Senior workforce. When the crew go home do you have some younger friends you could invite, they would have a lot to live up to. I do think reinstating the original sun dial is a great idea. One concern I have is that you are creating a beautiful vista which extends down to the various terraced levels. I would be cautious about having anything that will grow to a great height in the middle because you could lose the grand view that you have now been opening up. Yew trees in the middle in the formal garden that grow unchecked might be too much. But of course they can be pruned and shaped. At any rate, I do love seeing the collective enthusiasm and effort set forth, and think your progress is remarkable! Kudos!

It's looking amazing! For the center feature, maybe a metal obelisk like structure that could have something fragrant climbing on it? Clematis maybe? Or something to represent your favorite football club in England? Or a statue of Patrick? For as much as we honor the history of the chateau, don't forget you are also part of the history of the chateau! Use that space to honor your contributions, your passions, your family, your mark on the chateau. Hope this helps! Whatever you decide will be terrific!

If you decide on a statue, may I suggest the patroness of France, Jeanne d'Arc (Joan of Arc). She epitomizes Tracy's perseverance and persistence. Also, Jeanne would better suit a French château than the Roman Diana. Alternatively, an obelisk or a piece of topiary. The functional sundial idea may not be practical in the shade of the planned trees. You all are getting a workout from moving that ton of gravel. It's time for a Gin & Tonic or a cold brew (for Ashley). 🍻

I enjoy watching the great progress, but the small window in the roof section at the top of the tower so needs to be painted. Don't get me wrong there is no doubt a reason why it seems left out but my OCD is flaring and itching to get a paint brush! The other work is just amazing and putting skills that you have self taught is inspired, no criticism intended on the window.

That darn dormer window needs a tele handler to safely reach. Blur your vision when you look that direction.. 😊 I personally could never get up that high even in a harnass on a telehandler! 😊

You’re not alone…..Even though I know how difficult it will be to safely reach that window, I feel the same way😵‍💫😂 I just hope that when they are able to get to it, that whatever they do, it lasts for a loooong time 😂

Just found you guys, thanks to Matt Harington, I'm in southern italy and looking to build a retreat in our olive Grove. My partner is Italian and she was given the land by her parents. I've had many health issues and looking to raise money for a tractor. Our land is very steep and needs alpine tractor. What's the best way forward. We are salicivita, take a look if you get time.

Maybe when your helpers go, you could hire the petrol powered wheel barrow dumper, they look really helpful and hold a lot, you’ve all done amazing, I want to get out in my garden and get a few jobs done now, fabulous going everyone, going to be beautiful when it’s done.

The garden layout plan was ambitious, to understate things, but you've executed it brilliantly. In a future year, it would be awesome to take the next step-down garden and make it into a less formal but still unique space for activity - something you wouldn't mind younger kids running around in while their parents are enjoying the upper one, but still able to see them. I could totally envision a meditation labyrinth like the one at Chartres, perhaps a little live willow-branch dome to sit in, a fire pit or barbecue corner and that sort of thing. You know, when you've got a minute...

You might want to consult with a professional and experienced wedding planner before deciding on the use and design of the center. I think future brides (and their mothers) would fight to book a wedding ceremony there. And, oh!…the photos that might be taken!!!

Wow, that's amazing. It makes my (largish) gardens look reasonable by comparison. I like the idea of a sculpture, sun dial, benches, a fountain, or something without leaves (that need to be cleaned up) on your gravel pathways. They should be the lovely feature that they are.
