Keep it simple (amêijoas á Bolhão Pato), olive oil, garlic and salsa or coentros at the end. Maybe a spoon of butter to give some consistency and pepper at your taste. Get rid of clams that don't open. They should be all opened after 20 minutes on a partially closed pot, low heat (not minimum). Eat them with rye bread or a mixed one (pão de mistura, pão da Mealhada, saloio...)

Almost forgot, leave clams submerged in cold water around 5 minutes before cooking to remove sand and excessive salt (needless to add any while cooking)

I'm not na expert but I can tell you a story ! Once a ship from japan came to the Tagus estuary in Lisbon, and drop the ballast water in the river. Since then, in Lisbon it's easy to eat that kind of ameijoa (you can find many man picking - ameijoa japonesa in low tide, near Vasco da Gama bridge) which is very similar with the portuguese "ameijoa-boa", but the flesh it's smaller and diferent. Look for ameijoa-boa in Ria Formosa, Ria de Alvor, or Ria de Aveiro, it's more expensive but ...

The clock tower, known as "Torre do Galo" (Roster Tower) is the remains of the "Royal Shack" (Real Barraca). A great wooden royal palace built after the 1755 earthquake that destroid the "Palácio da Ribeira", the royal palace that existed on Terreiro do Paço. The king then got afraid of living on a stone palace, in case of another earthquake, so he ordered a new palace to be built of wood, to be resistant to earthquakes. But guess what... it was not resistant to fire! It was full of riches and tapestries, and all the best things. But unfortunately it burned to the ground in a huge fire a few years after being built. So, the new Palácio da Ajuda was ordered. This palace, has never been finished. It's 1/3 built. The "façade" we see nowadays is a lateral, is not the front of the building. The works stopped due to the french invasions, and when the court left to Brazil. Since then the works never resumed. A little history for you guys! ;)

The "Torre do Galo" wasn't part of the "Barraca Real" was part of the "Capela Real" The "Capela Real" was demolished in the 19th century, leaving only the "Torre do Galo" because it is the only part not made of wood. Work on the west facade of the palace is ongoing and is likely to be completed before the end of the year. Finally 250 years after the beginning of the works, the Ajuda Palace will be completed.

When I was recently in the mediterranean and areas of Europe (right before Coronavirus), I was fascinated with all the laundry hanging outside. I live in Puerto Rico and I actually hang my laundry out to dry. And I absolutely love it. When I bought my home I bought a brand new dryer and of course the washer. I ended up never using the dryer and I sold it because I just love hanging my clothes out to dry.

I believe the Ajuda neighbourhood must feel like a village: on a school trip to the Ajuda National Palace there were chickens roaming freely on the road near the back entrance of the palace (the one they're finally concluding after like 300 years).😃 You pronounce "Ajuda" like if you were Galicians…😁 You might want to try bacalhau com natas (or the older version, bacalhau à conde da Guarda), it's basically bacalhau for beginners that even kids like.😉

I use to work and live there, it's a paradise that had stopped in time, and the prices are good except for the new real state. People use to get married in Pateo Alfacinha, a day to always remember. If you guys are overloaded with work, I can help you cause Im unemployed, I had to return to my parents house, it's near you, Alfragide. Your vlog it's great and gave me mixed feelings cause I used to enjoy life there, and now i'm on the dull confined in my parents house. You're a beautiful couple, good job.

That was very relaxing, and fun! You created a simplicity, that was so seductive! I have no idea what you’re eating, but your faces tell the story! The beef item looked wonderful. I’m primarily a carnivore... so there are nice selections! How I wish I could dine like you two young adults... but I would become... Jabba the Hut! You are both more retired, than I am ! Yes, I know it’s the fun image of the finished product... but good work!

You should come to Oeiras and visit the marquis of Pombal palace gardens someday. It’s just a little hop from Ajuda and it’s a beautiful place too. I got one video of the palace in my channel if you wanna take a look. I would be glad to be your guide! Cheers and great video as always!

I lived in Ajuda two times, first in Memória and then in Bairro dos Mortos. It was so nice :) Do you guys know why it's called Memória? (hukommelse) It''s about a king, a secret meeting with a lady and an assassination atempt. And afterwards a whole family was executed.

Thanks for the maestrias suggestion I did not know about it and I am staying nearby in Rua do Embaixador down in Belem for a month. I would suggest you to go to one of the 3 restaurants on the river side of the Clube Naval de Lisboa at varying prices. It is super relaxing open views and good food too! :-)

Bochechas in Idanha a Nova, near Castelo Branco are called faceiras de porco. In the same zone they have the finest queijo de ovelha very good an cheap. If you know you can eat divinely in almost al country: Pombal, Coimbra, Condeixa, but also around Lisboa, like Bucelas, Arruda dos Vinhos even in a tiny little town as Calhandriz, near Mato Da Cruz witch I recommend vively. Not forgetting Adega do Falhão a must where you can lisening to fado.
