Our Electric Truck Success Story : Government Recognition

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We're thrilled to share Topsy's journey to becoming road legal - a huge milestone for us and a significant achievement in British Columbia's automotive history!
🛠️ Journey to Certification:
* The Process: From its debut at the Fully Charged Show, we take you through Topsy's intricate process of becoming certified and registered. After rigorous safety and operational inspections in Ontario, and a detailed mechanical breakdown back in BC at Matt's Shop, Topsy is ready to take on the roads.
* Challenges Overcome: Discover the extensive paperwork, inspections, and approvals required to make a truck from concept to road-legal reality.
* A Unique Feature: We also play around with an unconventional exhaust system - a hood stack, just for fun!
🔧 In-Depth Inspection:
* Join us as Matt from the shop discusses the comprehensive inspection process. From customizing exhaust systems to stabilizing the battery box, no stone was left unturned.
* The Final Steps: Learn how we secured a VIN number, completed the registration, and got the insurance and license plates - making Topsy a fully legal electric truck!
🏆 Recognition and Celebration:
* A Historic Moment: We proudly share our invitation to the legislative assembly, marking our recognition as the first OEM manufacturer in BC in 30 years.
* A Tribute to Team Effort: This achievement is a testament to the collaborative spirit of mechanics, truck drivers, and loggers who dared to dream big.
* Community Support: A heartfelt thank you to our fans, supporters, and everyone who played a role in turning this ambitious project into a reality.
🚀 What's Next?
* Road Testing Begins: Follow us as we start on-road testing of Topsy, ensuring operator comfort and safety on public roads.
* Future Goals: Stay tuned for more updates as we continue testing and refining our electric truck, readying it for the market.
🙏 Thank You!
* Special thanks to our team at Edison Motors, our incredible community, and everyone who believed in this project. We did it together!
📲 Follow Our Journey:
* Stay updated on Topsy's adventures and our future projects by following us on Facebook, Twitter, and KZread.

🔧 Built by Truckers, for Truckers 🔧
Founded by Chace Barber and Eric Little in 2016, Edison Motors is a testament to the trucking spirit. Beginning with a 1969 Kenworth Logging Truck named "Old Blue," they journeyed from Merritt, BC, hauling logs to the Yukon and drilling rigs in Alberta. Frustrated with newer trucks, they rebuilt classics from the frame up, expanding into power generation and off-grid solar systems in 2019. Their journey led to the creation of the Edison Truck, a robust electric truck tailored to logging and heavy vocational industries.
🔩 Upgrade Without Replacing: Edison Electrification Kit 🔩
Keep trucks on the road longer with the Edison Electrification kit. Upgrade your driveline to electric without replacing the entire truck. Ideal for vocational applications, this kit is a cost-effective solution. Unlike other electric trucks, Edison Motors offers customer choice. Choose between Rebuilding (utilizing existing cab and frame rails) or Remanufacturing (brand new frame and chassis).
🚚 Payload Efficiency: The Weight Balance 🚚
Edison Trucks match the weight of a normal diesel truck. With reduced motor weight and additional fuel balancing out battery weight, experience efficiency and increased payload capacity. The L series, though slightly heavier, remains comparable to a normal diesel truck.
🛠️ Keep Your Equipment with Rebuilt Trucks 🛠️
For vocational trucks, keep your equipment with a rebuilt truck. Edison's e-pto and control system integrate seamlessly. No need to replace your entire body when upgrading to an electric truck.
🔧 Bespoke Manufacturing: Handcrafted to Your Needs 🔧
The manufacturing process at Edison Motors is a testament to their commitment to customer satisfaction. Each Edison Truck undergoes a meticulous five-step process, from frame and rolling chassis preparation to final touches and rigorous testing. The focus is on building a truck that reflects the customer's requirements, embracing the philosophy of "Building The Truck Of The Future With The Quality Of The Past."

Stamp that VIN onto as many major parts as possible so if the thing ever gets disassembled in the far off future it can be properly restored as a piece of history.

It’s hard when the Oil lobby is pushing hard for “pure EVs” *without ICE range extenders* to be the only low/no-emission vehicles built. Since they will still provide the power generation for remote charging sites, and fuel directly to the ICE drivers who can’t switch over to EVs due to lacking local infrastructure. The Coal/Oil/Gas industries (collectively) spends around half of the *+31Billion in yearly after-tax subsidies* they get from municipals all the way to the federal gov. That money is fuelling the pro-pollution crisis that has somehow become the clarion call for “Fiscally Conservative” voters. The 3 1.4L gas-powered range extenders (I bought from a German company) have been sitting in Canadian customs since November, with Ontario refusing them transit. As they claim it has zero emissions certifications. Although it’s fully certified by EU regulators, and we fully recognize their testing regime as a matter of federal law.

Politics is brutal. And with things like the Tedla Semi and Nikola flopping. No congress critter is going to risk looking like a fool for back or giving money to another flop. That being said, I believed in Edison from the start. They're real people doing real work. Not trustfund babies with more dollars than sense. Glad they've made it this far it's truly a major accomplishment.

This story is extraordinary and inspiring. I'm so sick of the capitalistic mega corporations scheming to suck every penny out of our pocket. For example, subscriptions. Often they don't really offer more but they want you to pay them every month. This is modern slavery. Edison proves we can fight back. Remember that corporations are nothing if the people stop buying from them. Lets encourage corporation that works for the people. Long live to Edison and the right to repair!

The US is even worse for anti-EV regulations now. Their 2018 federal budget had non-budgetary laws included. A few that stipulated “non-OEM” range-extenders don’t get classified under regular vehicle emissions & safety standards. But, they have to reach backup-generator’s much higher levels for safety and low-emissions standards. Those standards are were/are so expensive to implement, that special exclusions had to be made for the DoD, Homeland, & US Healthcare providers until the statutes are revisited in 2032!

I used to deliver parts to the Western star factory in Kelona. I was sad to see it shut down. I'm glad to see that smart guy like you. As decided to do something that will change the course of automotive and Heavy hauling history.

Can you get custom license plates in BC? If so you should definitely get "TOPSY" or "EDISON-01"
