Our DIY $20,000 Paint Job on our $100 Boat

The paint was peeling, there were spider cracks, water was intruding, and let's be honest it just looked awful. After weeks of prep which included sanding for weeks on end, filling in all the cracks and fiberglassing the gauges we created from digging out moist parts in the toe rails. We can finally see that it was all worth it!! Our $100 boat just got a MAJOR upgrade!
For anyone wondering we used Total Boat Total Fair and Total Boat Epoxy to fix all the cracks and help smooth out any imperfections and we used Alexseal primer and paint with a roll additive so we did not have to roll and tip!

It's too late for Tula but for everyone else trying to remove smaller stubborn screws/nuts/bolts get a Rigid 3-speed impact driver. Its' first gear is really quite slow and controllable with the variable speed trigger. It gives you a steady TapTapTap that you can control and speed up as needed. It really saves the screw/bolt heads. And you always have the power and speed of 2nd and 3rd gear if you need it.

For drilling out screws, use cobalt (or carbide) drill bits. A small set will generally be all you need. I have to take apart motorcycle motors for restoration work. These screws have been there for decades and I ALWAYS have a couple of them strip out or break. Nothing else will do. Cobalt/Carbide drill bits go right through them. Generally, quality easy-out kits include a matching size carbide drill bit. I keep a set on my boat as well. Had to use them to remove hardware when removing hatches.

It is the new microfibre rollers mostly...not the paint necessarily. But the roller brands differ so try out until you find one that works in your area. They should have scuffed between coats. I have been doing it this way for 4 years.
