Our Buying a Narrowboat Experience | The Carpenter's Daughter

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here's the story about our buying a narrowboat experience. I talk about how we hired a couple to find out whether it was for us, how we discovered what layout we wanted, then negotiated and paid for a survey before it became ours.

Oh thank you very much. I’m still working on my house getting it ready for sale When it is sold I plan on buying just a shell and arranging new then fitting it out myself I think I still have a lot to learn but I was a maintenance man for a house in establishment so pretty clued up on DIY so can’t wait to get started and then relax on the canal with my new life thank you so much Gary.

A couple of tips that may be worth thinking about. I've found that a set of two or four walkie-talkies to be quite useful with charge cradles at the bow and stern as this helps with communication if you have a crew working the locks or on that narrow stretch from Trevor to Llangollen for instance. I'm also fitting USB charge outlets running off the 12v domestic batteries in each cabin and at the stern as they are always useful. Happy cruising Vikkie!

Generally speaking having a fire source [kitchen] at one end of the boat and another fire source [engine] at the other end of the boat means two locations/end of the boat that could be blocked by fire whereas exiting is concerned... With the reverse layout with the kitchen and engine room at the same end of the boat you always have a exit that will be unblocked... [I know that may not really mean anything to those reading but try waking up, half in and half out awake, and having to suddenly flee for the exit way in the pitch black of night and you'll maybe see why I bring it up...] Godspeed and safe travels folks...

That's great news! Hope everything goes smoothly. It's worth a watch of the latest episode of The Narrowboat That James built. He's discovered a whole and apparently during the survey early on, the boat was on chocks so the surveyor couldn't inspect the base properly and he's now found a hole... so worth having it on hydraulics so the surveyor can check properly.

Good question! We're not living on the boat, so not sure what him or my Mum would think if we did. But my Dad often says, "enjoy yourself".
