@@james_walrus - Thank you for filling me in and nicely too; I should have been able to glean Jerry Garcia from "context". As many bands as I have followed/listened to/gone to the concerts, Grateful Dead just hasn't been on my experience list. I am well aware of the quality JG and the Dead produce, but for some reason I never dug into them deeply like I have some/several. My loss. I am just beginning to however, so I have all their work(s)/art/music/performances to look forward to. I really appreciate your NOT calling me a dumb**ss from the beginning/silly question. Best Regards, LFGano (BuffRust) P.S. What is one of YOUR favorite JGB albums that I should pay attention to? And/or any Grateful Dead fav's that ought to be at the top of my list? Muchas Gracias

@@LFGanoBufRust You're welcome! Your first guess was not a bad one. And I'm glad you're on a musical discovery voyage. I'm not sure what to recommend as far as good albums go. There are so many. It's truly an embarrassment of riches. I would suggest, instead, that you take a look at the personnel listings on the band's albums and see who else they've played alongside. That'll take you some interesting places.

How many f'n GD cover bands does there need to be? Doesn't anyone ever get tired of hearing the same songs over and over again? The saddest part is most of the people who are in these bands are extremely talented musicians but instead of being creative and writing new music they take the path of least resistance and just cover the GD over and over again. They also know its an easy way to sell tickets which in my opinion makes it even more lame.

It's Jerry's fault really, for being so awesome and for liking cigarettes, heroin, cocaine, and cheeseburgers so much. Jerry could still be playing but we're stuck with John Mayer and fake Jerry.

These are both great and valid points and I totally understand the approach but instead of covering all these songs that have literally been played thousands of times, take the influence and inspiration of the GD(and music like it) to create new songs that have a GD feel but still stuff that no one has ever heard before. Yes this is a more risky(and less lazy) move since you're not guaranteed to sell out shows but with the caliber of these musicians I can almost guarantee it would be something special. And then the cycle continues since that band then inspires more musicians which again creates more music no one has ever heard. With this current approach there has to come a time when people stop playing GD songs and then what? Can you imagine if the GD just decided to cover all the bands before them and not create anything new? I'm honestly not trying to bash anyone or start arguments since I too love the GD and thoroughly enjoying playing their songs with my fellow musicians but I have a more jazz mindset which means music should just keep evolving as the next generation of musicians just takes what they heard and adds to it. Just my thoughts :)

@@evoshandor11 Bill Kreutzman had a great take on it after the 50th anniversary shows- The music and the Grateful Dead are eternal, but that's only for this version of the GD, the music will live on.
