OTC & Prescription Retinoids *Differin (Adapalene) & Tretinoin

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video is in response to one of my most-asked questions: "What are retinoids, and why should I use them?" I explain what topical retinoids are and what their primary purposes are for those who may be complete skincare novices and aren't sure where to start. It starts with educating yourself on the available treatment options and then making an informed decision. This may or not include a consultation with a healthcare provider such as a board-certified dermatologist (if you opt to go the prescription-strength route). A comparison between prescription-strength retinoids (such as tretinoin) and over-the-counter versions (like adapalene) is useful to help you choose the right product(s) for your goals, skin type, lifestyle, etc. I've also been asked on numerous occasions why I use both tretinoin and adapalene; I address that in this video. One last thing: Never purchase tretinoin (or any prescription drug) online or without a script. It must be obtained at a pharmacy with a doctor's prescription.
Products mentioned:
Tretinoin Gel 0.05% (Generic for Atralin®): avail. by Rx only
Differin® Acne Treatment Gel (Retinoid w/0.1% Adapalene): amzn.to/3T51Dii
On my face:

Maybelline Lifter Gloss, Opal (Pink Neutral): amzn.to/3R5GuBI
Wearing:
Turtleneck Long Sleeve Striped Pullover Sweater/Jumper, Oats, Size M: amzn.to/3RnBQR5

I believe that, as so-called “influencers” (of whatever capacity), we who choose to create content for public consumption have a duty of care to be transparent with our viewers. I’ve felt increasingly compelled to speak up about this because of the blatant dishonesty and audience deception that I continue to observe on this platform. And while I can’t control others’ actions, I *can* control mine. Be it in my private life or in business matters, I simply refuse to lie. Integrity is my most valuable currency, period. Thank you for reading this if you did. I needed to get it off my chest.

Jennifer!! Thank you so much for this! However I have to point out to you that as a viewer your skincare routine is something I enjoy watching over and over again! And unlike what you think, we don’t feel it’s boring AT ALL. In fact, it’s the consistency and the repetition we like to watch. It’s the calming voice and calming routine we enjoy and if you uploaded it every week we would still watch it! It’s a great example for everyone. The only other suggestion I would make it’s for you to talk about oral health if possible!! Thank you again 🙏💖

I did try tretinoin but had a lot of discomfort, even after 6months. I stopped and after a couple months decided to try Differin for anti-aging benefits. I was able to start using it nightly, and it doesn’t irritate my skin. It gives me a glow. It’s over the counter. It’s reasonably priced. I’m very thankful for it.

I’ve looked up info and asked a dermatologist about whether trenitoin or differin was better for anti aging and was told they would basically give the same results. It’s like using botox versus dysport. Same end results with either product, it’s just a matter of preference and different formulations being better suited to different people.

There has not been a single MEDICAL study that shows trenitoin advances aging. Quite the opposite. But since trenitoin doesn’t make the estheticians money I guess they don’t recommend it. I guess because trenitoin means that people wouldn’t need to go and buy products from an esthetician they would not recommend it.

I honestly think it’s the one you can use the most frequently that gives the best result. If you can use the .05 daily but the .1 only every 2 nights I think you will have better results with the .05. Strongest is not always the best. I think you would be just as happy using .05 nightly with those results. Hello Jennifer. I subscribed to your channels years ago due to the resonance I had you in terms of lifestyle interests (diet and exercise) not so much on skin care. However I, finally, started paying very close attention to your skin care videos from the past and obviously more recent. I concluded that your valuable experience with the products you use are indeed an obvious evidence of their efficacy Therefore I started trying topical adapalene (Differin) with great success for the past 3.5 months. I wanted to thank you for the integrity of your content and its positive impact. If one may have the audacity to ask you a question, what is your experience with daily sunscreens? Are there specific criteria for the ones you use? I watched your review on a tinted one you recently started on, but what are your thoughts on full spectrum non-tinted ones? Your content is high appreciated :)

It is a great product and worth the patience. At 31 I have just got Retin A and am thinking of starting this soon alternating with differin. One question do you bring the differin or tretenoin under your eyes? If not what do you do under your eyes? That is the area I’ve found aging the most for myself, but I haven’t brought the differin there as I am concerned for sensitivity. Thank you!

Awesome video. I started 0.025 Tretinoin cream about nine months ago and have used that % for six months. Now graduated to 0.05% in the last 30 days. Overall. the results are noticeable and quite remarkable. I'm a male and had no reaction or discomfort whatsoever and this is normal for my gender. Again, love your videos and always a fan of YOU!

@@user-qv5nt1fh4e Way more than is necessary I'm sure! At a minimum, I use some cerimides and peptides (copper)and a vitamin C (L-Ascorbic acid active) followed by a hylauronic acid to seal everything in and sunscreen in lieu of mositurizer in the AM. Pm is bacically the same but exclude the vitamin C and Copper peptide use the tretnoin and finish everything off with a moisturizer instaed of the sunscreen in the PM. I only wash my face in the PM.

I've been using tretinoin since may 2019 roughly, I still get acne, because mine is hormonal. So for people with hormonal acne, or an underlying skin condition, tretinoin can't perform a miracle. But I'll never stop using it because I know it helps my skin texture, smoothness, etc. I still get oily, because that is also genetic. Some things you can't change. Dr. Dray (Amanda Suarez) explains this very well. Probably my diet is not optimal enough, I can't get my head around eating beef liver, salmon with skin and bones etc. I'm a sugar bug and I know it does me no good. Anyway, love your videos, they calm me. Love your honesty and I would like to see a close up of your skin, ''makeup free''. Gosh it looks like glass. 🙂

Hi Jennifer, Love your message. That's why I 100% trust what you suggested as I can see your channel is not for a commercial at all and is very personal. Since I found you on KZread in 2019. I started Tretinoin cream bought from Italy, however, I still really wanted to try Generic for Atralin. Is there a way for me to get it if my friend lives in the US? Thank you in advance.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. Your honesty and integrity is highly valued and respected. I just started Differin because of your experiences. I read about it and asked my doctor, and then got a prescription. (Still need a prescription here) I'm only in week 3, but think I can see differences already. Well, that doesn't change anything. If I can tolerate this product, I will be using it for a long long time. I have tried retionoids, too, but they are so hard to get the hands on. So untill I see a skin doctor, I use the Differin. Thank you for sharing Jennifer. ❤

Differin is a super product. I recommend it to everyone who will listen to me. I've never had someone come back to me unsatisfied. Because the side effects of it are so minimal, it is almost universally tolerated and therefore a great choice overall; plus it doesn't require an Rx.

@@JenniferMyers I am listening to you, and I am so grateful that i found your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, you help so many people. It requires an rx in Norway Europe where I live, but in the future I hope it will be sold over the counter. But my doctor is a pretty cool person, so I got an rx for this product. I will continue to use it. I do a lot of other tings that I've learned from you too. I don't copy blindly, I learn and do what feels right for me, both in skin care and food and even exercise. Watching your videos is what kick started me to finally dive into the universe of yoga, I'm so grateful for that inspiration too. I look forward to every video you make, thank you for making them. Many of the books you have mentioned on your channel, was also my favorites even before I saw the videos about them. It was so much fun to learn that they are highly appreciated by you too. Thank you for continuing to teach us from your wisdom, I love it so much. Thank you. ❤

I miss topical tretinoin. I'm on isotretinoin so I have to limit myself to retinol. I have used both adapalene and tretinoin for roughly 10 months each. The skin was beautiful with both. I believe they do the same.

Thank you so much for the insightful information on these two products! I especially appreciate your honesty!!! I love how you’ve stuck to the same tried and true products and have proven that they’re safe and they work. You once said “don’t try to fix what’s not broken” and I’ve been going by that motto too and have stopped buying and trying a million new products. One thing I’d love to know, how do you keep your teeth so white? And does adapelene also help with excess oil production? Thank you!!!

Hi. I use Colgate Optic White toothpaste, and I floss twice every day. Once every 5-6 years, I use a Crest Whitestrips kit, but I find that I don't need to use the entire kit (I use 3-4 treatments). And yes, adapalene does control oil; very much so.

I was on Differin for several years before Tretinoin and am so glad I switched. My skin always looked terrible (red and itchy) using Differin but Tretinoin gave me zero irritation at all. Definitely prefer Tret over Differin. It is so much gentler in my experience. I have seen this with so many other people, too.
