    They sure can be! Though a bit harder to find these days, for multiple reasons. Also leather companies have gotten REALLY good at making elephant prints on leather, so if you see an elephant boot and it’s under a few hundred dollars, it’s probably printed cowhide.

    How do you treat the ostrich leg boots? Is it true that you just need to wipe it with cloth because it produces its own oil?

  • @GulottasVideo

    @GulottasVideo

    4 жыл бұрын

    I don't know about producing it's own oil any more than the natural oils found is most other leathers... Generally a cloth works pretty well but I find a little leather lotion works best to loosen dirt and to keep the leather conditioned.

    Do ostrich skin boots keep its shape like cow leather boots since it is so soft and thin? I'm thinking of getting a pair of smooth or full quill ostrich boots but I hope they don't wrinkle and end up looking like a piece of rag. Except for the unique, exotic, and expensive look, wouldn't calf skin be a cheaper option if one just wants the soft feel.

  • @GulottasVideo

    @GulottasVideo

    Жыл бұрын

    That's a great point, calf is a great alternative option, if you want the properties of ostrich without the price. Now, obviously a different look... I still think ostrich will hold up longer than calf, but yeah not a bad choice and compromise.

    Well, think of how thick elephant leather is usually cut, especially in boots. If you shaved down elephant to the thinness of ostrich skin, the ostrich would have a higher tinsel strength, according to my research anyway. Pretty cool stuff, thanks for watching and for the kind words!
