Wow! That footage is absolutely amazing 😮 that dive was insanely perfect, especially tucking those wings in at the last second. Also the amount of STRENGTH it has, pulling that fish out and flying away with it from a sitting/under water stance. Wow

It takes an immense amount of energy for an osprey to emerge out of the water with wet feathers and the weight of a large fish 🐠 so awesome!!

Q A.. Yeah, you can see that ! Just by noting the wet feathers all over its head and the amount of spray off its wings as they flap to get airborne. I would say it’s every bit as wet as a shag !

Exactly, did the fish got away? Osprey made it out? Good shot of this Osprey was completely submerged, for much lo ger than expected.

It doesn’t almost drown. It knows exactly what it’s doing.

was surfing at 4th st. reef and an osprey took a calico bass .. the look on that bass's face as the bird turned it facing forward was priceless... aerodynamic... with its mouth wide open.. 🥴🏄👍👍 beautiful bird .. no doubt !!!

and it's almost a divine timing when to position itself like an arrow to pierce the wall of the water avoiding unnecessary loss of speed and energy, within a fraktion of a second, amazing! For human to do the same he needs to calculate and/or do some trial and error! 😂

In 2019 my wife and i were on our honeymoon In GOLD BEACH, OREGON. Our hotel was right on the beach, with our balcony facing the Ocean. We spent a good hour or so just watching the osprey dive in the water and come out with it's meal. Great experience.

Holy crap! I love how it pokes its head out of the water and just sort of looks around, "No big deal, I'll FLAP..." and then it starts levitating... They are such amazing birds. And this is a great little vid! Thanks!

Those Osprey "areial attack" dives are always awesome to watch.

Makes me think the V-22 Osprey was aptly named. The osprey coming out of the water was in "helicoptor" mode; it will switch to "flight" mode if it can clear the water and attain some forward velocity.

Honestly..this is one of the best shots I've seen on YT

Love the way it keeps it wings out to get the perfect dive and gain speed but at the last second the wings go up and the talons come out! It gives me the same satisfaction of seeing a master craftsman at work. Utter precision and skill, perfectly adapted to the job and experience you can’t buy in their abilities! The definition of sublime.

The osprey was in no danger of drowning at all… he more than likely was holding the fish down to reposition both talons n get ready for takeoff. While fighting the current….that’s one bad ass bird !!

There's an osprey nest a couple of miles from me but I've not been out to see if they are back yet. Some of the other ospreys in perthshire have returned in the last week or so. Amazing footage...well shot

I missed the part where it "almost drowns". That bird is very capable of swimming underwater, at least as long as a human can, and then swimming with prey twice its bodyweight in its talons for half a mile to the shore, then ripping it apart and feasting on it. Ospreys are part of the sea eagle family and they are very adept in the water, although maybe not quite as much as they are in the air.
