Oshkosh EAA AirVenture 2023 Action Sunday, July 23, 2023 - Super Guppy, Thunderbird racing Mustang

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Sunday before EAA AirVenture 2023 begins at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, is busy as aircraft of all types continue to arrive. Watch the huge NASA Super Guppy land. And Mustangs, Corsairs, and the Commemorative Air Force Douglas Dauntless put in appearances. No more rain on Sunday, but heat and humidity were building. The classic blue racing Mustang “Thunderbird”, owned at various times by Jimmy Stewart and Jacqueline Cochran, was displayed in the vintage aircraft area.
If you’ve followed the Airailimages Channel, you know we like engine sounds as much as you do, and we will use ambient audio whenever possible. But for newcomers to our channel, please be aware that sometimes ambient audio is not usable for a variety of reasons, ranging from the presence of commercial music on the loudspeaker system (which we must mute), to unusable background noise, to slo-mo videography. That’s when we cue the music, and do whatever it takes. Sit back and enjoy…
And please give this video a Thumbs Up to help it grow in views. We appreciate it. We’ll be here all week making news videos - subscribe and never miss out.
This video is part of the Airailimages Airshow America collection.

I was 22yo fifty years ago this month, when I took my last flight in a Grumman S-2 Tracker with the USN as an AW2 assigned to VS-38 NASNORIS San Diego. We had just returned home from WESTPAC / Yankee Station onboard USS Ticonderoga CVS-14. That would be CVS-14 USS Ticonderoga's last call to duty. The sound of those twin Wright 1800's will always be music to my ears.

I wonder what it is used for, if anything other than just flying. There's one that's been sitting here in Tucson at the Pima Air and Space Museum for decades.

What thrilled me was that a couple years ago, an ACTUAL Korean War Corsair pilot commented on one of the plane's popular KZread videos (A few of those old vets actually have KZread accounts and leave comments occasionally)! I think he said he was 91, and he shared the story about a terrifying close call he had on a combat mission. He had made a dive on a target when his plane was struck by small arms fire from North Korean troops on the ground. To his horror, some of his instrument readings began dropping out and he thought they had either hit a vital part of the engine or a gas tank. Miraculously, it turned out that the bullet had instead struck the gauge line, thus stopping the levels from showing. He was able to get back safely, but it was one of the biggest scares of his life.

@@thunderbird1921 That would be spooky! I think small arms fire was one of the greatest threats to fighter pilots whose missions took them inland. My second cousin flew an F6F off of the new Yorktown after the original Yorktown sunk at Midway in WW2. My dad told me some of his stories he shared when he got back, one of which was about a sniper on the ground who shot at him. He said that this weird feeling came over him while flying this particular patrol mission, a feeling some called “the word” as if their number was up, and he just scrunched down in his cockpit. As soon as he did, a bullet zipped through the front of his canopy and nailed the cushion in the armor plate where his head would’ve been had he not slid down in his seat. Of course he turned around and strafed the shooter.

Saw an Airbus Super Beluga at the Airbus factory in St Nazaire France this year. It's soo huge looked like it was floating in the air. But you can judge it's size when it lands and you can see the tiny cockpit windows. They are monsters.

The last WW1 replica airplane represents the best spirit of experimental aviation. Unfortunately, too many Lindy awards went out to the ultra high priced professionally built, professionally painted, professionally upholstered quickbuilt airplanes.
