Osha: An Enemy's Allegiance | Character Analysis | ASOIAF

The North was actually the South. When looked upon through the eyes of the wildlings, the Seven Kingdoms were petty, snobbish, and exotic to the extreme, with their new gods and pointless wars. Beyond the Wall, men and women lived freely, bending the knee to no king or lord. They served whom they pleased, if anyone at all, and lived treacherous but adventurous lives. Sometimes, the free folk even ventured south of the Wall. One such wildling to accomplish the feat was Osha. Hello everyone, and welcome back to Exploring Fiction. With a group of Night’s Watch deserters, Osha ventured into the mainland of Westeros fleeing from the Others, and stumbled into the captivity of House Stark. While at first she appeared hostile, she soon showed her worth, and was eventually even trusted with one of the heirs to Winterfell, young Rickon Stark. While the North began to crumble, and the Stark childrens’ world began to fall apart, Osha found her true purpose, shifting from enemy to ally. So, who exactly is Osha, and why is she such an interesting character? Let’s explore…

When you get down to it OSha and the rest of the wildlings just want to live in safety from the White Walkers. That’s why she went over the Wall after her man was turned into a Wight and attacked her. At Winterfell she had safety, good food, and she was treated decently. Wildlings and Northerners aren’t very different. They worship the Old Gods, they’re tough enough to get through brutal winters, and have contempt for soft southerners. Osha found safety and acceptance in Winterfell and a family she hadn’t had since her man was killed.

SO much about Osha says that she is/was a leader amongst the Wildlings before she fled South. And I hate to say it, but the way she tells Bran she once killed a Ranger made me think she mighta been talking about Benjen. Maybe not-but the strangeness of it all made it pop into my head while reading. Going back to when she discovered Bran was a Stark, it bothered me. Osha is gona be loyal AF to the Starks now-she believes in the Old Gods and the Starks not only spared her life, they made sure to save her life as well. She ate their food, she accepted their gift of life when she really should have been killed. After figuring out the Starks are powerful wargs and Bran can hear the trees-she had to know that it was kismet, her being there. Osha is concerned for the Wildlings-she would go back North if meant fighting. If it meant saving people. Something else that always grabbed me-that Osha says they are safe enough in the Crypts while Winterfell burns above them. In the crypts, people are safe from fire above. 😮. And some of the happenings in the Davos and Theon chapters make me think Davos, Rickon and Osha are back. I know people think the spearwife Mance is with is prolly the daughter that was kidnapped-but I don't think so. I think that she has talked to Osha. The way the spearwife berates Theon SO...weirdly...THAT was Osha's influence, that's prolly why it felt so sudden and singular. Because it was. To me, it all reads like Osha has been in contact with Mance and his spearwives as well since her return with Rickon and Davos. Osha, at least, is CLOSE to Winterfell right now, if not IN it.

Whats annoying is Maester Luwin and Bran forgot their lessons earlier 😅 At least point to the known Stark loyalists, such as White Harbor or Old Castle, or at least the Wulls (a mountain clan) instead of Skagos.

Nah, Robb is kinda like Ned, Ned fostered Theon as a literal hostage and yet treated the kid with all the decency available to him.Robb had a teenage crush on Jeyne Westerling. He did the act and the immediately married her to repair her honor.

@@visionofsolace8961 no,not meaning rob became her husband or lover but in heart where her customs and heritage live......we've been told wildling women dont make good prisioners but she never betrays rob even after he is dead and she has the oppourtunity to, she puts her life on the line and stays loyal...that what i mean by becoming his wife. His spirewife not that they married in a sept or under a weirwood tree or nothing like that
