Edric Storm: The Price of a Throne | Character Analysis | ASOIAF

Being the son of a king isn’t a crime, but it is no guarantee of an easy life, either. Children born out of wedlock were common, and even rampant, in the Seven Kingdoms, but none sat in more danger than the sons and daughters of Robert Baratheon the Usurper. Especially after his death, Robert’s bastard children were hunted and sought after from all sides. For one, his wife wished them dead due to the threat their very blood held to her own children, while his brother saw them through guidance as a means to gain the throne through ritual and manipulation. One boy in particular, who eerily resembled his father the king, was scrutinized and coveted for the supposed power of his blood: Edric Storm. Hello everyone, and welcome back to Exploring Fiction. As one of King Robert’s older bastards, Edric Storm grew up to be quite like his father, but was kept safe behind the walls of the greatest fortress in the stormlands. After the King’s death, though, his fate grew imperceptible, as mystical forces determined that his lineage primed him to be a necessary sacrifice for the good of the land. It seemed that Edric Storm’s blood, a characteristic about himself which he could not change, now condemned him, when before it was a source of great pride. So, who exactly is Edric Storm, and why is he such an interesting character? Let’s explore…

I love Stannis but reading How Stannis dealt with Edric has me a little convinced that he will Burn Shireen. Because had Davos not shipped him to Lys, Edric Storm most certainly would've been roasted alive.

Great video. Hope we see more of Edric in the upcoming books. Also... I wish you didn't use those cartoonish images for the characters from that bad card game, and instead used either the better illustrations of the GoT board game or the awesome card game from fantasy flight games, or the A Song of Ice and Fire tabletop miniature game from CMON, or even fan or official ASOIAF art that is way better than this cartoonish illustrations that arent great.

the cartoonish fan art is a lot more… endearing I think. It’s stylized and unique and I quite like it. The Amok art pieces are cool, but i think TheMico (the artist who does this art) has works that feature the more minor characters mentioned in the books as opposed to just the major ones like Amok’s. It’s probably more about consistency in the artwork than anything else.

@@turtleguyfan personally I don't like it at all and never had. Prefer the Amok pieces, the official art pieces, and the art pieces from the board game and card game of fantasy flight games, and the ASOIAF Tabletop mini game art. Much better and better crafted, and suit more the series tone and epicness. And the tabletop game, has art from minor characters too. Not all of them, but there are many of them. And I think, if you look hard enough, you will be able to find some nice art fan pieces depicting all the other minor characters. It will be hard, but not impossible. And yeah. I get it about consistent art through out a video, but personally, I don't mind much that. Prefer a zillion times a variety of cool illustrations over consistent bad art, as I love seeing cool interpretations of the characters of many different artists. I mean, it's cool that you like the cartoonish ones, and won't try to convince you why you should like or shouldn't like something you like because that would be a total jerk move, but I still think that the cartoonish art, doesn't suit ASOIAF. Feels super off. That's another reason why I would prefer other art over the one being used. But that's me.

I actually do prefer the Amok art myself, but TheMico has drawn almost every character. I understand your sentiment, but it's more about consistency.
