Really excited this time, and thanks for putting the Nominations together ! By the way, I really have to compliment your video-set up, pardon my English, But I like how lines and lighting are on point, there’s depth and a clear focus, sound is qualitative as well 🎉
1st: Andrea Riseborough had this Last Minute Campaign through Social Media and many celebrities were endorsing her, this is a story that was being brought up about last week. 2nd: Everything Everywhere All at Once actually did not make on the Visual Effects Shortlist, that the Oscars Posted on their site, the other 5 that could've got in that didn't we're: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Jurassic World Dominion, Nope, & Thirteen Lives. & 3rd: Women Talking joins with The Blind Side, A Serious Man, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Selma, & The Post to get Best Picture & 1 other Nomination since the Picture expansion for the films of 2009/2010 Ceremony
Excellent video Marianna. Loved it. Was great to see your reactions. I was happy to see everything everywhere get nominated a lot. I adore that movie. Still need to see all quiet on the western front, but I’m sure it’s absolutely amazing. Will check it out soon.👍
Remember that Spielberg is loved by the academy. The biggest snub was Babylon and the biggest surprise was the triangle of sadness. I wanted South Korea to be nominated again in the international category.

I'm actually so excited for this year's Oscars!
Decision to Leave not receiving a nomination is both egregious and a downright snub. It is the second time they have done this to Park Chan-wook - the first time was for The Handmaiden (2016). The man has directed some of the best noir-style/thriller films seen in the last 20 years - JSA: Joint Security Area (2000), Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002), Old Boy (2003), Lady Vengeance (2005), The Handmaiden (2016) and, now, Decision to Leave (2022).

Thanks for the reminder. I knew I was still annoyed with them about something, and it's their over-looking of The Handmaiden. When I saw it, I was convinced it would be the first Korean film to win Best Picture. All I could think with the decision making was that it was too sexy for the Academy. It's difficult to find evidence that Hollywood understands sensuality, so The Handmaiden may have made them uncomfortable. As for Decision to Leave, do they think they've done Korean films having awarded Parasite already?
Happiest for Jamie Lee Curtis finally getting a nom. Thought "Everywhere" was awesome and wondered how it would fare come Oscar time- not too bad, apparently.
How is this the first react video I have seen from Marianna, these real time reactions are priceless (:
Happy surprise with Paul Mescal's Nomination! Been a fan of his since his show Normal People!
Agree, the excellent Babylon unfairly overlooked. Yeah, the Hello College scene was hilarious!
Great video! I'm missing NOPE and AFTERSUN but all in all great
Danielle Deadwyler was so good in Till (only female performance to contest Cate Blanchett, maybe; Dale Dickey also?) Also, why did they decide to leave out Decision to Leave? Also, Paul Mescal winning would be such joy!

I also thought Michelle Williams was overacting but I saw video clips of Steven Spielburg’s mom and she does act like the way Michelle Williams portrays her.
Biggest snubs by far are Decision to Leave missing International and Danielle Deadwyler missing Lead Actress (could also include Top Gun in Cinematography but I'm not as *upset* about it as I am just shocked it's not there). Biggest surprises for me were Top Gun in Adapted Screenplay and The Whale missing Picture as Triangle AND Women Talking moved in instead of one or the other. (I kind of feel about The Whale the way you do about The Fabelmans tbh.) Also Andrea Riseborough in To Leslie. Can't believe that campaign memed itself into existence and then worked.

I was reading about the "Andrea campaign" yesterday online. It's not just a few fellow actors, it's a lot of them, all academy voters. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if she wins. The actors are the biggest branch. Since Andrea isn't nominated at SAGs they may well give her the Oscar. After SAG there's a month long to campaign and vote. Crazier things have happened at the Oscars 😂

Just saw Babylon. A fascinating mess. More Baz Luhrman than anything remotely reflecting the era. And yet I'll be watching it again. And Margot Robbie! Her choice of roles is always fascinating. And I suspect there are hidden reserves we haven't seen yet. (Plus it was fascinating to see her playing opposite Samara Weaving for a moment. I've always thought they should play sisters in a film.) Just saw Triangle as well. Glad to see it there. I think most of the Wakanda Forever noms are just Black Panther holdovers. And jeepers! Spielberg has gotten way too much respect here. I wish I had seen All Quiet for my month long Netflix moment, but I just can't do them more than one month a year. And I'm really getting to hate the Netflix's no physical media policy. I am praying Guillermo made a deal for his work with them to get his stuff out of Netflix jail. Ditto All Quiet... Thanks Marianna it was a joy to watch the announcements with you. Okay, first of all, how can you look this stunning on a hoodie? Second, your eyes are truly mesmerizing! Sorry, I know that's not what the video is about 😅 I am not a big fan of war movies to be honest, but the way you smiled and giggled at every mention of All Quiet has made me curious. I agree on The Fabelmans (also LOVED your reactions every time it was mentioned xD) and disagree on Babylon (it's not that I didn't like the hate letter to Hollywood, it just felt very repetitive and I think Margot Robbie was, like Michelle Williams, acting too much). I also think you can pick any actress from Women Talking and put them in the best actress category. When you find out how the VFX of Everything Everywhere were done, you know they deserved a spot instead of Black Panther. I was happy to see some love for The Batman and Triangle Of Sadness. I still wish The Menu was acknowledged in some capacity, I think it's an amazing film. EDIT: WAIT A MINUTE WAIT A MINUTE, no love for The Northman??? What? It should at least have been nominated for cinematography. Come on now, come on. It's a good year overall. I really really enjoyed your reaction, very nicely done!
I'm surprised you haven't watched Puss in Boots! It's so cute and it's extremely good, amazing story, writing, characters, humor, visuals. If you want a movie that's gonna make you feel good (or have an existential crisis idk) you need to watch it!!
I actually saw Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris in the theater. I'm totally prepared for Best Costume Design! Woop
I honestly think All Quiet is a dark horse to win best picture, Babylon while im happy it got the three it did, the film deserves so much more, it was my favorite movie of the year
pretty good list would have like some horror movie maybe in there as this was such a good year for horror
I was shocked and disappointed that Muru from New Zealand didn't get nominated for international feature film for its blend of English and Te Reo Maori plus a powerful message of power during the 2007 Ngai Tuhoe raids in Ruatoki near Bay of Plenty. It's clearly New Zealand's film of the year.

I love how you make sound like this is about them nominating movies and categories you liked, while if fact I saw this whole video as “Did she just single handedly predict 80% of the Oscars, what’s happening on this channel?”
Generally super happy with most of these nominations and I love Top Gun as much as the next guy, but a screenplay nomination is just bonkers
Sad to see no nom for Janelle Monae after her fantastic multi-faceted performance in Glass Onion. Or one for Mia Goth in Pearl but the Academy doesn't seem to realise horror movies exist.
That hoodie is so cool! I'm so happy for EEAAO but kinda sad that The Batman wasnt nominated for the Soundtrack.
So rooting for Everything to win Best Pic, and all the awards it was nominated for.. I would have loved to seen Aftersun nominated for more, including Best Picture. I know it was on your honourable mentions of ‘22. But it is such a powerful movie. Maybe it’s too ‘small’ and ‘indie’, but I was vibrating w emotions after watching that film. Cheers!
I'm surprised Nope didn't get any nominations. I would've preferred Nope take the best picture spot over Avatar 2 (Even though I mostly enjoyed Avatar 2, it wasn't the best film of the year). The academy really isn't a fan of horror films or science fiction movies. Other snubs include The Northman, Pearl, The Menu, Barbarian, and Bodies, Bodies, Bodies to name a few. I know most people were split on Men, but I liked it a bit more than most people. That film was gorgeously shot and it had strong performances and the score was impressive. Hell, I would even include The Black Phone mainly in turns of performance. Ethan Hawke's performance still gives me nightmares. I still have yet to see some of the nominees (RRR, Women Talking, Aftersun, The Fabelmans, The Whale, Babylon, Black Panther 2, All Quiet on the Western Front, EO, All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, To Leslie, Turning Red, Marcel the shell with shoes on, Triangle of Sadness are on my watchlist). There's probably more that I'm missing, but you get the idea. There's also other snubs that I have to watch as well (I have a long list in my mini notebook containing the nominations and the snubs, so I have some catching up to do). I was also surprised The Batman got snubbed for cinematography and production design. In terms of those aspects, The Batman was one of the standouts. Side Note: Since the Academy has ten best picture nominations, I think it would make more sense if each category had ten nominations as well. That way there's more variety. It feels limiting when there's only five, but that might just be me.
Your reaction at Andrea Riseborough! HARD SAME. You should research how her campaign went. Personally, I think it was an unfair use of privilege that robbed other people's chances. I am still not fully over her nomination but I'm slowly coming to terms with it, but I am genuinely afraid her momentum of being the "indie pick who did her own campaign" will steal the spotlight from Michelle Yeoh which should definitely get the win. If ever that happens, we riot.

I wouldn’t say it was a “privilege” being a non- household name in a movie with a tiny budget and no money for months-long Oscar campaign. Compared to companies with millions of dollars pushing for awards, this is a grassroots movement to get people to see her movie and performance. Stories like this is why people should still care about award shows. And I say this as a Chinese fan of Michelle since Yes, Madam! Don’t worry, it’s still a race between her and Cate.

I'm not replying because I didn't intend nor want to create an argument in Marianna's video. I just wanted to share my opinion. This would be my first and last reply. Privilege takes different forms. Let's not deny that she has white privilege. You could say other actors have privilege in a financial sense because the firm that represents their movie (not them) have millions of dollars for campaigning.
Eo and The Quite Girl are very, very good. Not necessarily better than Decision to Leave (still upset about that), but more than worthy of nomination, and really should be must watches.
If you’ve watched an episode of “My 600 lb Life”, you’ve basically seen The Whale. The people on the show all have a tragic backstory that’s led to their condition.
Decision to Leave getting snubbed was such bullshit. RRR getting only song made me sad. But Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Naatu Naatu all in one night is going to be amazing.

Oh I'm definitely going to catch up on the animated movies his time, since I've already seen two of them. As for Spielberg fans - I don't know, I'm a fan myself, but can you genuinely make the argument that "The Fabelmans" is one of his best films? There is no way it cracks the top 10 for his filmography, and yet it's one of his highest rated films on Letterboxd. Weird.

@@ImpressionBlend I agree completely. It was a sweet personal story which some good moments. But I don’t see it as groundbreaking film
Weird that the hoopla was so much about Stephanie Hsu but now that the nominations have come it's all about Angela Bassett in Supporting Actress. For who wins, it's clearly between EEAAO and Wakanda Forever. But I think it will come down to who Hollywood wants to celebrate and what kind of night it is. I think EEAAO is still picking up love though. But I'll be happy if any of those ladies win.
Still haven't seen Everything Everywhere. Loveed Banshees, Elvis and their respective performances. New Year's Eve I had a choice between Avatar and Babylon and ended up ordering some beer/wine, saw Babylon instead & loved it. Btw enjoyed your reaction!

If you're are avoiding Everything because of the Multiverse connection to comic book movies, don't. It surprised me by deconstructing the Mother/woman/business person/immigrant/friend roles that the main character is forced to live. And it's very funny at unexpected moments.

@@Buddybaba Just haven't got around to it. I heard all great the things and have been anticipating. I just read it's back in theaters this week so definitely seeing it.

Don't even say that
Chaos! Chaos! Chaos across the board! My brain hurts...
I must say, after watching To Leslie last night, Riseborough is amazing in that movie. With Michelle Williams, I would argue that if she overacted Spielberg would rein her in considering she’s playing his own mother.
No director nom for Daniel Cameron and Matt Reeves 😭. I'm glad they nominated Top Gun Maverick and Avatar Way of Water, since these were the biggest films of 2022.
Biggest snub to me was easily Decision to Leave. But I would have also liked to have seen a bit more love for The Batman
Still upset for the snubs for Pinocchio in score and song. Happy for All Quiet on the Western Front
