    I LOVE both Vervet Foundation and C.A.R.E, that said, I REALLY appreciate that Vervet doesn't "force" or "rush" their babies into the troops. I SO believe that the babies integrate well, when THEY are ready, as is evidenced by what Kyle has shown us across all these episodes! THANK YOU Kyle and Vervet team for allowing your babies to integrate when THEY are ready!!

    Are they averse to using the term "kidnap" ? Kidnapping babies from mothers is extremely common among primates. In fact, it's so common that many species of monkey utilize the practice to teach teenager monkeys (monkeys on the verge of becoming fertile) how to handle & raise babies. It's also used as a form of babysitting; some mothers will allow their child to get kidnapped so they can have a break from their baby and catch up on grooming, foraging, mating, etc. You don't really see kidnapping (relatively speaking - it still happens but less frequently) among apes. Or Vervets

    Years ago, I saw a show on Animal Planet about a baboon rescue run by an older woman. The volunteers had the orphaned baboons 24/7 and even slept with them. Was that Rita by any chance? The show didn't go into the background of how the lady started her rescue program, but she was very protective of all her baboons.

    Have you noticed any distinct differences in how CARE prepares the baby Baboons for introduction to their adoptive moms compared to the methods you have used at the VMF? Have you seen any techniques you may try with the Vervets?

  • @VervetMonkey

    @VervetMonkey

    4 жыл бұрын

    Eh, not really. To be honest, CARE took most of what they do from the VMF and then modified it for baboons. But the VMF has been perfecting their system for about 15 years. CARE has been doing it this way for about 5ish. But also Baboons are pretty different than Vervets in a lot of ways, so other than the format of the foster program itself there isn't much that can really be copied over.

    @@VervetMonkey Hey Kyle. I know in the past you have expressed an interest in doing a documentary film about the Macaque Monkeys in Angkor Wat Temple Complex in Cambodia. Something very unusual just happened to one of the troops there. I don't know all the facts but I have read that apparently because some tourists had been bitten a government organization that is supposed to be there to protect the monkeys went in and took almost all the adult males and females from the " Mila " troop. However they did nit take the babies and the juveniles of which there are about 20 or so. So now there is a troop of just a few adults and huge amount of babies and juveniles. It is sad to see them all cooing to alert their moms who they will never see again. They do seem to be foraging and eating from what video I have seen. Some of the VO are giving them extra food to live on. Navy Flow and his wife Konthea have always been very kind to the monkeys there. Just thought you would like to see this. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lnmi2adtXdrOmKQ.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/hHWuzrSSj9Pek5s.html It's like the book " Lord of the Flies ". It will be interesting to see how this troop develops with so few adults. I hope they will not be killed off by larger troops nearby.

    @@VervetMonkey Thsi follow up video of the orphan macaque babies and juveniles is interesting Kyle. There is one young adult female named Caca who has adopted two babies and one is also riding her back sometimes just like Mrs Gold at the VMF. kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4CdxseJqt2XXc4.html The juveniles are helping out trying to comfort the babies who are still cooing to call to their lost moms. They are hugging the babies and also taking turns carrying them. I hope they move to another location soon because the adults left in the troop are trying to carry them up the temple walls for safety. Sorry to say they are probably running away from all the VO trying to film them. On the positive side Navy Flow and his wife have been bringing the babies much needed extra fruit to eat. Tiny Baby Lizza is my favorite in this troop and she fell from high on the wall when Caca was carrying 2 babies but fortunately she fel on soft grass and was ok.

  • @VervetMonkey

    4 жыл бұрын

    No feeding cages. People just bring the bottle to the fence. Baboons are way way smarter than Vervets. So even the moms know its important to bring the babies over. You can see in the tour video I did on CARE that they had trouble getting a baby to come to the fence to drink so they made milk balls.

    Does these moms get pregnant?, or are they fixed.? Have they lost a baby? Baboons and Vervet Monkeys seem more loving than the Maquaces = not spelled correct. There is a few that will take on an orphan, like one I am watching in the Wildlife Alliance forest she had a baby, and took in a baby 8 or 10 days older she has raised it with her baby. They are older now, they still nurse but not as much, they forage and she shares her food with them. Most moms will slap another baby away. Then there was one , this is in Cambodia, that the mom was very abusive, would leave baby, maybe nurse 1 time a day. 3 other moms let this baby nurse. But nouthing like these guys.
