    It’s noticeable how careful they are, like when she picks him up for a quick health-check, to not just grab him and lift him up, but to let him know she’s about to pick him up. It’s this sort of thing that sets the VMF apart , (from whom, idk…) and why terms like “excellence” are apt for this crew.

    These tiny wonders are a testament to the power of life freely assisted by the incredible volunteers in this life assisting sanctuary. Each dollar, like, and share of the videos is a testament in the power of generosity and a kind heart. This too makes life possible for these tiny miracles. Each baby is unique and uniquely cared for while all are loved Thank you to all. We all make all the difference💛💛

VMF team are an amazing awesome group, and all the hard work, and sleepless nights to get these babies safely raised, and in a group. Can't wait to see which mommas adopt the newbies. Is it just me or does there seem to be an uptick in the baby vervets needing help? It's sad, but thank goodness for the people at VMF. 🥰 I know they try to keep the handling of the babies to a minimum, but they sure don't let them suffer from fear. I'd have a hard time trying not to mother them, but it must be amazing to cuddle and feel their tiny little bodies. It's all a matter of keeping what's best for their best interests, but their little hands, little and feet, and those precious tiny heads, well... Just so irresistible, so a bit of a touch I would have to do! Bless you all for your good works! 🤗🤗🤗

    In 2019, at this time we only had 1 orphan arrive to the VMF. The past few years, we have been at 11 babies but we are currently on 15 at the moment so there is definitely an uptake in orphaned vervets needing our help.

    I, too, am too disabled to go. When my granddaughter was 12, she saw how devoted I was to the VMF cause, and told me she would "represent" me. And so I have set some $$$ aside to enable her to fulfill my dream--and everyone wins! Of course, she will be older when she takes up this challenge. (By the person formerly known as Carolyn McPherson--until my identity was mysteriously changed.) Anyway, VMF is the best!

    These babies look so tiny but they are 6ish weeks old. On average how many ounces does a day old baby weigh?

  • @sophielines

    @sophielines

    7 ай бұрын

    Generally around 200-250g, babies are generally around 400g at 4 weeks old so we can use this as an indication of age but teeth and face will help determine age if they have been malnourished.

    I can only imagine the joy the staff experiences as the orphans progress so quickly! Do the babies sleep in Neverland/Disneyland etc by themselves at night? Does staff join them? Also, this is the first time I've seen a baby male already blue on his scrotum. I know as adults the males are blue and the brighter/deeper the color, the higher their rank.

    Hi! I'm the current baby mum here at the VMF so thought I would answer your questions. The babies go onto Nightshift so staff, interns or volunteers will take the babies in their crates to their cabin for the night (6:30pm-7am) and we wake up and feed/comfort them when they require. Smaller babies, under 2 weeks need feeding every 2 hours whereas the older babies can just be fed at 7pm and 6:30am. The babies all have blue on their genitals, even the females. The babies all have unique areas of blue and pale pink on their bodies.

    So, I was wondering why are there so many Velvet baby monkeys that are orphaned? Is it because the mama's reject them...I just imagine that so many mothers would reject their young😢. Or is there an other reason?

  • @sophielines

    @sophielines

    Generally it's human related, Atlas and Anita's mothers were shot by farmers, Elora's mum was killed by a car. Snares, electrocution and the pet trade is also a factor that the babies come into us. Most of the time, a mother wouldn't leave her baby alone so we know something must have happened to the mum or humans were involved. It's very sad as with a lot of the babies that we receive, we don't often know what happened to them or how they ended up being alone.

    These babies are so precious! I’m so glad they were placed with you all. I have a question… of course I know each case is different but if you receive a relatively healthy 7-10 day old baby, then how soon do you like to place it with a new mom? I’m thinking you’d like to place it as soon as possible, but was just curious at what age that may be. Do you wait until they’re a little older or do you go ahead and try to get them to a new mom even though they’re so small? Congrats on winning that award. It is well deserved and earned. 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    @@VervetMonkey well, that certainly makes perfect sense! I was just curious because when I discovered your channel, it was towards the end of season 5. Most of the babies were older when they were adopted so I thought it neat to see the moms taking up with them even though they were larger. So when I see a wee one come in that doesn’t even have teeth yet, it just made me wonder about it. 😎 Thanks again for all y’all do. It is heart breaking to see these orphans but heart warming to see God’s mercy be shown to these little guys through the hearts and hands of humans. ❤️

    The minimum age we can put them with a monkey foster mum is 6 weeks old as this is the age they have usually learnt the milk feeding cage and move a little more away from mum so can drink.
