Just curious, have you heard of the album “ Murder Ballads” by Nick Cave? My very best friend, who is a music devotee, rates it as one of his favourite albums. So much so that when his awesome missus came along, it became an unannounced “who knows him the best” for his bday. She got him the vinyl of Murder Ballads, I got him a bottle of Maynards red wine. Funny thing is; he can listen to the vinyl when ever but we can only drink the bottle once🤷‍♂️ Sorry for the blog but you should check out Murder Ballads by Nick Cave👍

@@devilbub8709 it’s alright man. Saskatchewan itself is a very country type feeling, there’s not many people in the province and there’s a ton of farming and oil field type work. Most people in the town I lived in are super friendly and you got that small town kinda feel. I enjoyed living there as a teen, but I am happier being in a part of Canada that involves a lot more mountains now 😄

@@devilbub8709 This part of Canada is very much a rural place. Primary industries are farming, mostly canola, barley, alfalfa and such, some mining, and that’s most of it. Flat down south, slightly more rolling up north, geographically. Most places are pretty safe, so long as you aren’t on a reserve or in North Battleford or PA these days. Cost of living is very low. Taxes are relatively low. Generally conservative politics. Work is pretty isn’t hard to get, so long as you don’t mind a bit of physical labour rather than computer science or something like that. Not hard to do well here, very hard to extremely well.

i have to say, this COMPLETELY blows the spotify version out of the water. there's far more depth! the guitar work is incredibly expressive, the continuous bass drum has that signature colter wall feel, the vocals aren't so monotonous - they're comparatively bright even. if the lyrics were in a foreign language, you would still be able to tell that there's a story being told. the studio version is missing pretty much all of that. it's seriously making me wish these sessions were up on spotify, but it is what it is D:

Thank you. Yes, exactly. This sort of storytelling, along with Johnny Cash, was what drew me to country music. All of the “beer ballads” and trailer park anthems combined can’t compete with something as heart-moving as this. When I say “eugh, _country_ music” I’m talking about everything that steals this song’s sound without any reverence for the soul of the music itself.

You empty half your gun, but you gotta keep the rest just in case. You gotta make your way home after the fact too. A lot of shit can go down from the scene until your home safe. Well the raven is a wicked bird His wings are black as sin And he floats outside my prison window Mocking those within And he sings to me real low It's hell to where you go For you did murder Kate McCannon When I first met Tom McCannon I was working in the mines Said he had himself a dark haired daughter With long, green eyes When she and I did meet She was bathing in the creek Prettiest girl in the whole damn holler That ain't no lie So I went a courtin' Kate McCannon Got me a job and I quit my ramblin' And every day I'd save A quarter of my pay I could buy a diamond ring Lord and one day I come home to find My darlin' angel's not inside So I made for the creek Where she and I did meet And found her with some other lover And I put three rounds into Kate McCannon

This is a fucking masterpiece .... From the voice .... To the way he strums the guitar ... From the storyline ... Starts out by telling people he is in prison already .. Then goes on to tell how he ended up there.... Then when he found her with another lover the long pause with the strums getting heavier like anger ... To the three booms for the three rounds .... Its a masterpiece... you can feel the pain with his voice ...

Holy hell! I don’t normally comment on songs, and normally get annoyed by the people who way over evaluate it. I’m not doing that, I don’t think, but I have to say it. The way, during the climax, Colter goes from soft acoustic to raging strumming like the blood pressure of his story’s character rising right before firing off those three shots (which are even represented a few seconds later with the FREAKING DRUM), it’s amazing. There’s a complete story arc and guitar that fills in the spots where most other musicians would use meaningless lyrical filler. I commend you, sir. THIS. IS. COUNTRY.
