Actually the followers of some politicians in Mississippi were called rednecks also, because the used a red handkerchief in their neck also... probably owing their own scottish roots... also a rebellion in west virginia used the same red handkerchief in their neck against northern corporations

The majority of the irish people was roman catholic and remained loyal to King James II Stuart by supporting the jacobites against the orangist irish protestants of King William III and Queen Mary II... And much of the scotish nobility also remained loyal jacobites considering the Stuarts their rightful sovereigns instead of William III... And later they rebelled several times against George I and the Brunswick-Hannovers which they considered to be usurpers continuing to support the return of the Stuarts to the throne from their exile in the european mainland namely King James II's son Prince James (the Old Pretendant), and both his grandsons "Bonnie" Prince Charles (the Young Pretendant) and the Cardinal Prince Henry Benedict until the late 1700's...

@@alibee1978 : The "vast majority" of the irish people is protestant? Are you SERIOUS? Actually it's the other way around: most irish people are roman catholics while the anglican orangist protestants are just a minority enclaved in Northern Ireland where there are also irish catholics! The Republican of Ireland or Eire whose territory occupies 3/4 of the irish island has a catholic population! Most of the irish immigrants to New England were catholics! And the Scottish nobility was divided 50/50 between noble who remained catholics and noble who became presbiterians (the scottish equivalent to the english anglican puritans)! The people of the Highlands and half of the Scottish nobility were jacobites and loyal to the Stewarts even when they went into exile and the Parliament forced Queen Anne I to leave the crown to a distant cousin from the Hannover Dynasty! What are you talking about?

Filipe Matias the republic was predominantly catholic and the north Protestant . The Ulster Scots wer the one who fled earlier to the north east of America !

@@alibee1978 : Yes, as you said the Ulster was predominantly inhabited by anglo-irish protestants both anglican and puritan who supported Prince William of Orange! The Ulster had and still has a minority of irish jacobite catholics which is one of the reasons that led to the North Ireland conflict within the picture of Ireland's FIGHT for independence and freedom from British rule! However the presbiterian irish-scotts were also a minority within the orangistes! The immigrants to New England were pretty much divided among all faiths and regions of the UK throughout its several historical periods having settled their own communities in distinct parts of the territories within the original 13 colonies: the protestants mainly up north and the catholics down south between english roundheads puritans, english catholic cavaliers, scottish presbiterians, scottish highlanders, irish catholics and anglo-irish orangist protestants who were also joined by german and dutch settlers (not to mention the african slaves and the native american indians) giving thus birth to an eclectic mosaic that was the embryo of what would become the USA!

The info contained in the video is in the Wikipedia article you cited if you scroll down. I think it's safe to say that it came over from Scotland considering that during the 1700s the Scots were a large portion of the immigrants to the US.
