Chaos & Moonshine: The Redneck Rave | Fringes

Ойын-сауық

Over a single weekend in the Summer of 2021, the local population of Edmonson County, Kentucky was doubled by droves of "rednecks" descending on the area to celebrate five days of mud, music, & mayhem. They came for an event called "The Redneck Rave" - a music festival put on by country rapper, Justin Time, who bills it as the "biggest country party you'll ever go to." What festival goers didn't sign up for, however, was the absolute chaos that would ensue.
The Redneck Rave made international news for a throat slashing, log impalement, strangulation, amputated finger, and a slew of petty arrests & hospitalizations. Local law enforcement was completely overwhelmed, claiming festival organizers did little to coordinate with them, other than letting emergency responders onto the premises. In the wake of the media frenzy, Justin Time promises to redeem the Redneck Rave, offering family fun at their following Fall event.
In this episode of "Fringes", VICE's Erica Matson puts on her mud boots to attend the Fall Redneck Rave, exploring modern "Redneck Culture" to find out whether it's as innocent, safe, & wholesome as promised.

That's literally what they're doing with the articles you think are biased. Vice isn't gong to throw in a real life video and then do fake news on the rest. They try and get real life as much as possible and when you think they're being biased take a look in the mirror and think why the people you listen too on social media, blogs, other media and podcasts want you to think that anything they have a problem with is biased or in the pockets.

This actually seemed like unbiased objective journalism. She didn't try and give it a certain spin. She just tried to find out what it was all about, and tried to get some context where there were criticisms of the rave. Love the DJ and what he spoke about. I think it is so important to interact with those that we might be apprehensive of or that think, believe, look, and live differently. This allows for connecting, sharing, learning, developing your own and others perceptions and slowly, change. As a inner-loop Houstonian, I encountered culture shock experiencing my now husband’s home ranch and town and “redneck” culture, but I respect and appreciate them now! I think they are often misrepresented and understood.

Yeah, the whole "redneck = racism" is BS, they're predominately white not because they're excluding people, but because whites are just more numerous in the US because of being settled by the homeland of whites - Europe. Nothing weird about that, and rural areas have more whites because bigger cities always used to attract more immigration and work opportunities, thus being more diverse because of that.

There was a town that bought a tiny, like 1/4 mile of a highway next to them, and dropped the speed limit from like 65mph, to 40mph in their area. Thus getting lots of speeding tickets. Doesn't it bother you that those guys wave confederate flags, which is literally a pro-slavery flag? I mean I get the impression these guys don't actually understand what the flags means and think it just means "being a rebel" but is that an excuse? Good on Justin's DJ for being out there trying to educate them at least.

@@scoops2 you say “literally pro slave flag” that may be how you define it, but is it not clear that’s not how everybody defines it? Someone being offended from the outside doesn’t mean they have a clue, it just means they are offended. I’m not being combative here just saying.. I understand the anti-racism push, but the reality is, the people offended by the flag are holding far more prejudice and judgment than those who actually hold the flag…
