Today we unboxing a very special Orient Mako. Made to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Mako, which is one of the most popular entry level divers, and one that was the first serious watch for many, it is a Mako that we know and love, but elevated on a new level looks wise thanks to some unique details. The wave pattern on the dial, the gold colored hands and logo and a black and blue bezel insert as well as Anniversary Edition placed neatly in an almost hidden way on the dial make for one of a kind Mako. Limited to 3000 pieces with each one being numbered, it is a gerat addition to a collection, especially if you are a Mako fan.
The watch is powered by Orient in-house made caliber F6922 that beats at 21.600 bph and comes with both hacking and hand winding, while at the same time losing the additional button for the day of the week setting, that the first generation had, and moving the said function to the crown, in my opinion a better and more elegant solution.
the crystal is sapphire, while the bracelet is left unchacnged with solid links but also hollow end links and stamped out clasp. That is the one area where Orient should step up their game as microbrands offer better specs at half the price. Of course Orient as a brand has more history and that brings some value to the table, but it was also always "bang for buck" watch, so it would be great to see them match microbrands in specs at least. None the less, the watch is gorgeous and just like any Mako, while still being original in design, manages to capture the 5 digit Rolex wearing feel due to its great proportions and size.
