Orient displaced Seiko as my go-to brand a few years ago. The quality control is much better, combined with a 20-30% saving.

Did they improve the last years? My Mako 2 has a dust speck on the dial, pretty visible. No misalignment tho. 😁

Not sure I agree wholy unless they stepped up their QC game over the last few years. My Ray 2 has a clearly misaligned bezel that I was a bit bummed about. Great value otherwise though!

Yup. I see what Seiko does then wait for Orient to do the same thing but better (enter the Suicide Squad meme). No, I need Orient to do an Alpinist…
I appreciate your content Dave. Always honest and smooth.
Great review as always and can I just say I love the intro music, gives me a vibe of a fun morning show from Japan!
Thanks for sharing another great Orient with us Dave!
Thank you for the video Dave! I was looking for an affordable Chronograph and this Orient is just perfect for me! I just ordered the Black and White variant.
How easy it would be to rid ourselves of the decorative 24 hour dial with a 12 hour totalizer. How this num-num dial has gained prominence in modern Watch building is beyond me. Seiko VK 67…..see the new tri-compax-Baltany. Thanks Dave.
I put my Seiko SSC-815 on a sailcloth strap and its much more comfortable. I love this Orient too. Wow.
Love both the Mako 3's in your review! The leather rally strap on the diver looks Amazing!!! Great Review!!!
Great video! I reached out to Orient USA for a release date in the states, and was told late summer/ early fall 2023.
Love the channel and great job sharing. I own many oriented, all of which haven't let me down.
Your light setup desk is amazing for the watch render !!!!!!!!! Realy nice job ! And i love this watch Orient....My love .
Yes. I love Orient watches. I bought my first one in 2013 (crown, date pusher). I got married wearing it!
Absolutely beautiful watch. I love what Orient does. This is definitely a great option over the Seiko!! Thanks for sharing this one Dave!
looks good. i have an open heart and small seconds , a gen 2 mako and an incoming blacked out gen 1 raven ray. love this brand
Hey, Dave, I enjoy your videos very much. I am a relatively new collector (last eight years). I love the Orient and Seiko brands (especially Grand Seiko). You are right. A person gets so much value for the money in the Orient brand. I like these Mako Chronographs so much that I recently purchased both the Blue/Red shown here and the Panda dial (both for around $200). I appreciate your showing the strap options as well. Thanks again for your many insights into these watches and collecting in general.
Very Cool, I need to get my hands on one.
I would love the Mako/Kamasu to have the finishing as this one. Thanks for the great review 👍
These seem more like a replacement to the SSC017 (and similar) solar dive chronographs that can still be had for under $400 if you look hard enough. The Seikos will have hardlex, so this Orient is still an upgrade.
Seiko also has their Prospex SSC675P1 Divers 200m Solar Chronograph although it's a bit hard to get, (and probably twice as expensive). Also great channel Cheers
Nice watch. Orient’s a great company that’s always made excellent watches at affordable prices. I’ve owned them for some time and are happy with them. Personally, 43mm is a little to large for my 6-5/8” wrist but I can’t deny the esthetics of this cool timepiece.
One of the best looking chronographs I've ever seen
Great looking watch!
Not a watch I need to make the jump to at the moment, but a great entry by Orient (and, of course, filling a gap Seiko left some years back...anyone else recall Seiko's pre-Prospex solar diving chronographs that went for roughly the same price, perhaps US$350 or so?). Nice review, Dave!
I have the panda version of this and i love it. Was checking around for a decent priced solar chronograph and this showed up. It ticks (no pun intended... or wait a minute.... 😀) all my boxes and it quickly became one of my fave watches. Not that i really use the chrono that much, but it certainly looks good and while it's there i do use it, occasionally. Had an Orient Bambino a couple of years ago and i loved that too, eventhough it wasn't really my style after all. However the quality is really nice for the price of these things. I wouldn't mind the Seiko either, as i am a huge fan of Seiko watches.

You sound like me. I've always loved the chronograph and I sometimes use it, it's nice to have if needed. I'm a fan of Seiko but not spending 700+ on a speedy. Half that maybe on an orient. I have other things to spend money on. Like my house or car.. 😅
This will be my next Orient watch.
the Citizen Promaster caliber 2100 belongs in this comparison as well - very pretty eco-drive watch!
I really enjoyed your last video ( even no watches) very much. I shared it with my grandchildren 😊 thanks 🙏

I really like this Chrono.Orient seems to be a better value than Seiko now. I like both brands and I own several Orient's and Seiko's but Seiko's pricing has gotten a lot more expensive. Also I like those Ritchie straps I am going to check those out.

It's just "better value" not "A better value".
If you use the timing bezel to keep track of the hour hand (at the same time you actuate the chronograph), you can accurately track up to 12 hours. Neat!

How about just applying a damn 12-hour totalizer?
Citizen for me has displaced Seiko, between my citizens and casios, I'm good. I may save for a Monster but between Cit, Cas, and Orient, there are such fantastic options for affordable and quality watches. I have had a few upper mid-tier swiss watches, but I always end up selling sliding back to Casio, Citizen, Seiko, Orient arena. It is likely that my cars and watches will stay Japanese for the foreseeable future.

I thought of the same with the eco drive. Just an easier beater watch since less maintenance. But i really like my seiko baby alpinist for dress watch. I still keep it on my rotation alongside black bay 58, Rolex Datejust and Santos de Cartier.

@@jakealexander6046 Yes, agree, alpinist and a monster will probably end up in my collection at some point. If I added a swiss diver, maybe a Squale. An interesting question would be if I had to have one casio, one citizen, one seiko, one swiss, what would they be.......
@jakealexander6046
Жыл бұрын
@@azdbuk yeah this is tough and will be up to preference. Especially if you want to diversify color or which one watch you would center your collection from. For me example would be my love for the Black Bay 58 so it would be my swiss watch for daily. then, Citizen Garrison super titanium for dress watch (color depends on what you would like). Seiko baby Alpinist blue (since casio is green). Casio Gshock Ga-2110SU-3A green one. But i can switch the colors around. But yeah it will depend on the person and will be dependent on what they usually where or colors they would like. No wrong answers.
Stellar review
I saw there is a JDM version in green, looks amazing
Great Review 🙂👍
Dave that shirt is awesome!!
Great look, good price, nice specs. Solar is a big plus to me. But the 24 hour dial bugs me, a total waste, show stopper for me. Still feel my tlssot prc quartz chrono is my goto
I'll get the full black one.. Cheers!
Loved yesterdays video, very proud of your commitment.
Pretty cool, but the "Saved by the bell" music when the watch was spinning! WOW
Gracias por tu excelente video. Te quería preguntar cuales son las diferencias entre el modelo RN-TX0201L que presentas en el vídeo , y el modelo RA-TX0201L. Muchas gracias por tu respuesta.
Great model! Got the pepsi model 50% off. Orient offers great value for the money.
There’s also the Seiko SSC019P1 and it’s other color variants which are under $400
This reminds me of the seiko Air diver v175 Pepsi. Looks just like it
Enjoyed your previous video. Sorry the comments were turned off.

Check out the Seiko SBPY165 solar chronograph. It is $287 on Sakura and looks a lot like the speedtimer and has sapphire crystal.
I wish that budget chrono manufacturers would make it standard practice to fully mark the running seconds track instead of markers at 5 second intervals. I know that that isn't the part of the chronometer function display, but it would be more in character with a precise time keeping device. And please stop producing budget chronometers with 24 hour sub dials. The watch looks great, but as Dave said, it would be better to have elapsed hours recorded there.
43mm! Just my size 👍🏾💪🏾
I really dig it, but first impression is… why a dive bezel?
That’s a great watch. Wish it came in white. I’m not a huge fan of chronographs, but I like white dialed ones. Thanks for the great review.

All my life, starting with my father, we all had always only Seiko watches. Unfortunately these days, prices just made it impossible to keep on that tradition. Back in the day we knew of the new brand Orient but it was a more popular (cheap) brand that lacked prestige. A few years ago I was interviewing for a job and my interviewer was wearing a Orient. I searched for it and saw it was made by Epson, who also owns Seiko, so I decided to give it a try. Very please with value (if some scratches I will cry for few days but affordable to replace) and performance (design needs improvement to compete with the big brother).

@@frankdux5693 from $600 (+-) to over $1000. At this time ,for me ,it’s just not possible. I can by three Orient for the price of one Seiko. Also, if I have $1000 + to spend in a watch, I would by myself (for first time) a Swiss one. Maybe a Tag !
I think Orient watches are excellent. Same for Seiko’s. I hear from many Orient people that they are value for cost. I think they are as good as any other high quality watch. What more does the average bear need? I have Longenes and Tag and I like the Orient as well if not more.
I don't know. Chrono on dive bezel is pretty much useless. Don't you think? They could've added tachymeter at least.
I like the looks of a chrono very much, in just don't see a need for this complication. What bothers me is the redundancies of the sweep secondhand in addition to the other second's dials. They should pick one system and then use the space for another feature.
Great review! 👍 I think the Orient is a steal and giving Seiko a hard time... Besides the nato straps you showed - are there any good quality metal bracelets you would recommend? 🙋🏼♂️
I am just starting to look into the Orient products, and I noticed they also have another solar panda chrono in the Neo 70's product line. How does the Neo 70 compare to the Mako chrono line? Thank You for the videos and very useful information!
Oh God , seeing this review... I'm dreaming about a watch which isn't affordable to me but... I wished that Orient could make same dial.. It is none other than the Zenith El-primero Chronograph with different dial colors.
Looks great - but does it have a split time function ?
Here for the intro music but I stay for the watch 😂
Hello! Great video!! I have bought this watch today, there is maybe an issue with crown, when in position 1 nothing happen, position 2 it changes date turning to clockwise direction, what do you suggest? Is there probably an issue with the crown?
Does Ritche make watch straps for people with less than 7" wrists? It seems like their smallest straps fit 7" or greater.
I think it's a great watch on a terrible bracelet 🙂 It would be nice to set the 24h dial independently of the main time - instant GMT
Chronos are not for me, too busy. But I do like Orient, much better value, and my Triton has fantastic lume, and keeps great time. You're right Dave, you've gotta replace the bracelet, the stock bracelet is rubbish. I do like that rootbeer example you showed here.
Orient is the new Seiko for many buyers. Can I just say that the Richie straps aren't good in hot climates. They will give you a heat rash on the back of your wrist. Great video, for me the best watch reviewer who also stays humble. Not like the rest when they grow!!! Stay safe.
7:14 you can see through the solar cells
Are they not releasing these in the US? Can't find the chronograph mako 3s anywhere
It really sings on that artem strap
Would like to know what you think of the white version.
I think it's a great watch, BUT it looks too much mixed. A Tachymeter bezel would had fit much better than a diver bezel. Or at least a 60 Minutes pointed bezel without a 15min diving marker. To bring more symetric into the design. But the look is just too much for me. And I would love to see someday massive steel bracelets instead of folded. Even it's an affordable watcj, but hey....I just tryed few minutes before the Citizen BN0200 which is not a Chronograph but also solar powered but a full massive Titanium case and bracelet with a milled clasp, for just slightly more money. By the way a great watch this citizen bn0200 or bn0201.
Dave! I could not agree with you more about the moronic, decorative only, 24 hour dial. A 12 hour totalizer is EXACTLY the same as far as manufacturing cost of goods. Not a penny more to make. So, a 12 hour totalizer is mandatory for pilots. Ask one. And if you are not so crazy as to leave Earth in a glorified kite…how bout those brownies in the oven, clothes in the dryer, pizza, etc. Best thing you have ever said about chronographs…..AND, it is historically correct. Thanks Dave…I hope you rag on those stupid 24 hour dials every chance you get. How PHONY! Check the new Baltany Tri-Compax for less than $200.00 I believe you made a fine vid on that watch.
How is the accuracy on this movement?
I can’t find the unboxing of the watch you won on the wheel spin. Have you made that video yet?
Like the Orient watch Hate the Velcro strap cheapens the look Just my opinion Luv your reviews
we are waiting for bambino chronograph !
The Hour and minute hands are too small.....Not bad though. Great vid.
How does it compare to the SBPY119?
How you guys assess the Orient open-heart line?
Maybe the designers at Orient can teach the designers at Seiko how to place a date window equidistant between the 4 and 5 markers, because the date window on the Speedtimer looks like it was placed by a blind man.
Orient is just awesome.
That's pretty fly! But I cannot justify knocking my Seiko Safarnie out of my standard chrono rotation

@@e28forever30 Great thing about the Safarnie is that it is a tan watch that is very unobtrusive. Blends in well; wears great. Change the strap to black, it is now a black watch with tan highlights. Looks completely different, not unlike the SNJ031.
The price is right, as is the finishing, and as a real diver, 43mm is fine, maybe even small-ish. But as a "desk diver" it's too big for most people. And just like the Seiko, the 24 hour sub-dial is worthless - why do they keep doing this? Orient: shrink it down a bit, do 20mm lugs, make the 3rd SD useful and you will smoke Seiko in sales.
Anyone know where I can get this watch in the UK?
could you review casio enticer MTP-1381, according to me it looks like a rolex day date and nobody has reviewed it
I like your T- shirt. Where did you buy it? Kind regards Bro!
Great as ever thanks
Where to order Riche strap, please advise.
Plus rotary bezel.... mmm...
For those who have bought from Jomashop and shipped it to EU (Netherlands for me)...do you still need to pay 21% import tax before you can pick up the watch?
Again, Orient falls down on that bracelet. I have several orient watches, and none of them are on the original bracelet… I was able to find aftermarket for the Ray II, and Kamasu. 30 bucks with salad and links and milk clasp(and a nice taper).
Your intro music makes me want to buy a convertible, wear a white sport coat with the sleeves rolled up and move to Miami and moonlight as a private detective.
Diver chrono is a bit odd, especially with no screw down pushers...
I am looking for a Quartz, 40 mm, Chronograph, to fit properly on my tiny wrist. You had some Citizen..but..nahhh
What if you were stuck in a dark cave for so long that you couldn't remember if it was day or night outside..... Then all of a sudden that 24 hour dial comes in pretty handy don't it 😂😂😂😂😂
I Hate when they use thick minute and hour hands with chronographs, This seems like a fun watch to mod very cheap
Unfortunately, I just like the Seiko one better, looks more professional somehow. A good addition tot he Orient collection in any case, likely it will be popular.
The only thing I don´t like is this 12, I think it´s out of place there. I love the 200m WR, and I´d love to see this model with grey dial/black sub-dials like the Orient Neo 70 Panda, wich I prefer in terms of design. Hard choice here!

I love the new Mako 3 but find it ironic to blend two different means of measuring elapsed time. If it’s a Chrono, who needs the diving bezel? For me it’s a bit ridiculous. Also, without screwdown pushers it would be very risky to wear it while swimming or diving.
