Please, guys, talk about note taking from a physics book. I'm a PhD student in physics and I found hard to find some note taking tips from physics or math books (mostly, I find notes that are always texts with no equations). It'd help A LOT if you guys do this because I feel my note taking method is not working at all for me :(

Topic I suggest: If we don’t have a proper working desk but still need to manage on a old / small desk (Eg: table mate, space over a wooden drawer chest ,etc.) How can we organise the things on it and make ourselves productive for a better working space?

It's hard for me to throw things away, but then I have drawers full of trash :P I have "garbage guilt" But what do you do with things that aren't obviously trash, can't be recycled, reused, or donated? For example, I have an old planner. I can't stop thinking about it rotting in some dump somewhere forever. I mean the paper would rot, but the plastic cover would remain..

Just spent the whole video organizing my desk and night stand, and it was the perfect length of time! Instead of setting a timer, you can pick a song, video, or even podcast to listen to while you tidy up. And when it's over, stop! It's a nice way to stay entertained while doing monotonous tasks like cleaning up/organizing

For anyone that has a small room or lives with more than one person ( dorm, family household, apartment, etc.), I suggest you use your own bed for storage. If you have more than 2.5 ft of space under your bed, use boxes, storage containers, and anything else that can and will close to keep things safe and well kept nicely. If you have a desk and have space under it, use it a makeshift book self as much as possible. I myself used to have a bunk bed but later made it into a makeshift loft bed since my sister moved out. Anyways, good luck organizing y'all! 🍀👍

This is an awesome tip. I did something similar when my roommate moved out when I stayed in a dorm in college. This idea is a great one that I used to some extent with my 2 kids. As my ceilings aren't tall enough to allow for that much space in both sleeping areas I had to do some calculating and found a twin bed that could fit in the bottom bunk but had an under bed clearance of just near 1 foot. Then I found fabric boxes that when organized and mixed just right, allowed me to use fabric boxes under the bed (it was like playing Tetris on paper lol). Things that were infrequently used were stored in the back (and they came with covers so prevented accumulation of dust) and the front boxes became drawers for frequently used items. Since they're fabric and I had wood floors they can pulled in and out easily without having to deal with a drawer and rail system plus they looked really nice ^_^ I love these organization tips! 😍

Set new supplies aside until you can get a chance to organize the area they go into. There's lots of organizing supplies out there and not all of them are in the stationary section. Containers for kitchens, tool boxes and even make-up can be useful for crafts and stationary. Collapsible totes are great for magazines and storing/sorting items if you get interrupted. They come in different sizes and colors. Store items you normally use together near each other or in a kit. Don't feel guilty about donating or throwing away supplies that you don't use anymore or don't like.

I used the empty packaging of food, like the cereal boxes shown in the video. I cut them down to fit my desk drawers and added cool holographic contact paper to the outside. Each box holds a different type of item, like black pens in one, rainbow pens in another, ect. It's a major space saver!

For the cereal boxes, you can make it into drawer organizer, I split mine into 3 part with same height, glue them together (the middle part is the part which didn't have cover) and cover them with paper (so the part that didn't have cover will have paper cover)

For organizing in in draws ect which aren’t visible, I just use what ever I have that fix’s the space, half a old phone box, random plastic box I no longer have a lid for, shoe box lids, old tea boxes. If I have time and know that the layout work I may end up covering them to look pretty but often I don’t bother cos all I see is the very top edge.

Something that works for me is: Reorganizing my things. I usually get sick of the same order, and it looks messy to me. Changing the way my things are placed helps me know when things are actually messy, and when I’m just tired of looking at the same thing.

  • @sinaain

Less stuff means less to Organize. For many things it’s easier if you store them vertically instead of stocking them on top of each other, which makes it difficult to take something out. In fact, I pretty much only stack identical things (like kitchen plates) on top of each other since there you always can grab the top one, but if you need to choose, like with different T-shirt’s, vertical stacks are better. Think where and how you use something and store it in a place that suits its use. Like, I am always surprised when Americans store their shoes in the bedroom. In my country everybody stores their shoes next to the door so you can just grab them when you go out instead of having to go through your apartment or house. Plus, if you take them off when you come in your place stays cleaner. Or, if you always open your mail right if you come in, have a basket for recycling paper near the doors well as something to sort your mail into. And a knife to open packages and cut the cardboard down into manageable size pieces.

I like to have one section of my desk that I leave empty just for writing or taking notes and the rest of my desk I keep all my immediately used items for- it's cluttered but the main idea is that I always have the available space to start work and finish work and everything I need is close by and ready to use!

Probably one of my favorite tips is that if you already put certain things somewhere (for example, clothes in a corner of your room in a pile or pens in a pile on part of your desk) to put a container of some sort in that exact spot. So for the examples, you would just put a bin for your clothes or a cup or tray for your pens

My method is: put 30(or any other fixed amount) of things where they belong. You can also add challenge: do thus as quickly as possible. So you don’t commit to an hour of organizing, but you do move in a right direction in a short time. Usually 30-40 pieces is significant to be seen, but not too much to be overwhelming

The white desktop with drawers? It looks like an IKEA 'ALEX' unit. I think it was mentioned in the comments of an older video.

I keep all the things I would need whenever I go out in a small strapped bag/ pouch/ purse and try not to change from one to another bag. In that bag, I would put my keys, elevator card, eyeglasses, wallet, a small notebook, nasal spray, a pair of small scissors, some facemasks, and a multi-pen. If I need to carry more stuff like books & my laptop, I add a backpack along with that strapped bag. I try to always put my keys back in that bag, so whenever I go out, I don't have to go get my keys and will least likely to forget them. I used to put keys in a basket near the main entrance door, having them ready to grab as I walk out of the house, but still forgot them and got locked outside. Since I put all the essentials in that ready-to-go bag/pouch/ purse, I rarely, if at all forgot my keys, except when my mom borrowed them and forgot to put them back.

Have a place where everything lives so you don't have to think about it everytime. Where's your headphones? In that part of the drawer where they live Where's your keys? In your purse or bag where they live Always put things back where they live then you'll never lose things!

I use my daughter's hair elastics, like the little fluffy ones from dollar tree, to hold the cords when I wind them up. I put washi "flags" on cables that are special but look like the other 100 white cords we own. For big stuff like extension cords, you can shove them through a toilet paper tube to keep them wound up.
