Organized and simplified home walkthrough | how do we store stuff as minimalists?

Do minimalists store things? There are some situations where we need to store some things that we know we will use and will add value to our family, but how do we store things in an organized and simplified way and still keep a intentional home?
I have come up with some ways that we store things that we use in very streamlined way. Today I am sharing how we do this in our smaller home as a large family. I cover sentimental items, hand me down clothes for kids, seasonal clothing, seasonal decor, kitchen items, bathroom items, and more.
I hope this video provides inspiration and encouragement to help you when creating an intentional home.

    Great video again ❤ As a mother of four I can relate. About eight years ago I got rid of the journals written by a caretaker you get for free in the Netherlands the week after birth. People seemed shocked, but it felt so good to get rid of them. Who cares about how many times the baby nursed or I went to the toilet... 😂 I prefer space and time with my children. I did the same with their first clothes. They are used to dress up stuffed animals, so we see them regularly instead of feeding them to the moths😅

    Loved this video! It’s perfectly timed for me because I’ve decluttered my whole house recently so the organisation of things I’m keeping is my next step. I’ve just ordered the over the door shoe storage from Amazon :). I’ve found everything so much easier and peaceful. I’ve got a little 3 year old boy with Autism who likes to empty every drawer and cupboard so less stuff has meant a lot less mess!! Thank you for your videos I love them I find them extremely useful but also soothing and relaxing as well xx

    Great video. I love your detailed examples of solving entryway, winter and summer clothes, kids artwork, etc. Great solutions that we can all learn from. You are so ahead of the game. I wish I would have embraced minimalism at your young age but I am grateful that I got there eventually. Thank you for sharing your solutions.

    wow i'm honestly impressed with how much thought and logic you put into how to organize your home and with how little stuff you have! you definitely inspired me, that when i get my own apartment, that I'm not just buying a bunch of furniture but wait and see what i actually need and not what is 'normal' to have

    Hi Katie, love your calm voice and explanation. A family of six! How is it that you look so young and have such a mature attitude and outlook? Hope you don't mind me asking how old you are. Myself, I'm a mother of two young adults and half the time I'm chasing after them to tidy up whichever spot they use. And you are so calm having four children! You have maintained well your beautiful home. And with 4 kids, just amazing. Your necklace is delicate and pretty. Do you mind if I ask what is on the pendant? God bless you and your family 😊❤💒💕💕

    Love this video and your home! It looks so calming and peaceful without all the unnecessary stuff! Thanks for the tips definitely going to do some of these! How do you store bed sheets, and towels. Does suntan lotion and bug spray go in your summer beach bag or in the bathroom? And last question how do you store home supplies like light bulbs, nails/screws, and tools? Again thank you so much!

  • @lightandmind77

    @lightandmind77

    Of course. We just have one set of sheets per bed so there is no storage for that and we have one bath towel per person as well. We have a few extra towels for sick days, wet floor in the bathroom during bath time (lol), etc. and those are kept folded in the bathroom. Beach towels are kept in the pool bag. We keep sun lotion in the beach bag as well. I think we have a few extra light bulbs we just keep in the kitchen and all tools, nails/screws etc go in our one large tool box. Hope this helps. :)

    I love your home and can't wait for mine to be completely simplified. It's still in the making but it has come along way! We have a baby on the way how do I prepare as a minimalist? Meaning how many sleepers , onesies, sleep sacks or blankets , towels and wash rags are best to purchase? I have only one towel and rag per person in our house currently. One set of sheets and blankets for each person. I have simplified so much I am nervous to buy anything for baby just yet. Also how do you homeschool and keep stuff so minimal? Thank you so much for your videos I love your inspiration so much!

  • @lightandmind77

    @lightandmind77

    What I have found is that babies really do not need much at all. It really is crazy how much is advertized to us! I would reccomend getting a few of each and just see if you need more when baby comes, you can always add more if you feel like you need for onsies or blankets etc. I do find the muslin swaddle blankets were my most used thing for my babies becuase they can be used in so many ways... blankets/swaddle, carseat cover, nursing cover, burp cloths, etc. My kids even still use them as they get older into the toddler stage. I plan on making a video all about baby items evenutually. :) Homeshool items I just keep minimal by only keeping what we actually use and not having a bunch of duplicate materials. Also the library is a great resource as well. Thank you for being here 🤍

    I have a few photos printed out of my kids, but I just keep those in their journals that I write for them. I have talked about how I write letters for them to have when they are older, and I just have a couple photos in those journals. :) I used to have baby albums and wedding albums, but I just put it all on my computer instead. If you really love having the printed photos, you could limit yourself to the amount of photo albums you have and keep only your favorite photos in the album. Just a thought :)

    If you have more than 10 books, you need bookshelves. Your storage plan works well for you because you do not have much at all.

  • @lightandmind77

    Absolutely. My point is that we can sometimes use different types of furniture to store our stuff instead of having to buy different furniture, and in our situation since we don't own a bunch of other stuff we can use our tv stand for books. :)
